The invention comprises a surgical drape formed of a sheet material having a periphery and with a particular type of aperture spaced from periphery. The invention further comprises a method of using the drape. The aperture has a dominant portion and at least one subordinate portion. At least one subordinate portion of the aperture radially extends from the dominant portion. An adhesive layer may underlie an area surrounding the aperture.

Refractive surgical drape

An adhesive composition having dispersed therein a broad spectrum antimicrobial agent for use in medical applications, such as an adhesive for surgical drapes, wound dressings and tapes. The adhesive is composed of acrylic polymers, tackifiers and a preferred antimicrobial agent, diiodomethyl-p-tolylsulfone. The adhesive composition is essentially solventless and capable of application in a hot melt process while maintaining stability at elevated temperatures in the range of 275&deg; F. to 350&deg; F., which not only allows hot melt application, but allows for ethylene oxide sterilization under heat stress.

Antimicrobial containing solventless hot melt adhesive composition

A surgical drape manufactured or fabricated from a polymeric film having a low glare finish and a predetermined coloration for reducing the luminous intensity of light reflected from the surface thereof is provided. Such surgical drape thereby minimizes reflectivity therefrom, and thus eye strain and fatigue. The subject invention includes the use of colorants, dyes, pigments, etc. to form translucent polymeric surgical drapes that absorb a selected range of wavelengths from surface reflected light. More particularly, the use of coloring agents in combination with a textured surface yield a surgical drape possessing reduced luminance and glare, thereby mitigating eye strain and fatigue. The preferred range of reflected light, in order of preference, is 625-700 nm, 520-560 nm, 450-520 nm, 400-450 nm, 600-625 nm, and 560-600 nm.

Minimally light reflective surgical drape

A configuration of surgical drapes for convenient dispensing and handling from a container. The configuration includes a continuous rolled length of surgical drapes having opposing major and minor longitudinal edges. Each drape of the continuous roll is separable from adjacent drapes by longitudinally spaced apart lines of weakness throughout the continuous length of surgical drapes. The continuous rolled length of surgical drapes includes an adhesive strip adjacent the major longitudinal edge of the continuous rolled length of surgical drape. The adhesive strip in turn carries a removable release liner thereover which preferably partially overhangs the adhesive strip. The continuous rolled length of surgical drapes further has an accordion pleat fold to thereby reduce the stored and dispensed width of each drape of said continuous length of surgical drapes.

Surgical drape configuration and package

A sterile, medical dressing package (10), a method of applying the dressing (10) to a patient, and a method of configuring and packaging a sterile, medical dressing (10). The package (10) includes a dressing sheet (12) and a pair of cover sheets (14). Release portions (38) of the cover sheets (14) overlie, and are adhered to, lateral portions (36) of an adhesive face (16) of the dressing sheet (12). Tab portions (40) of the cover sheets (14) are folded back upon their respective release portions (38). The tab portions (40) extend away from a central portion (34) of the dressing sheet (12). The central portion (34) of the dressing sheet (12) is folded back upon, and adhered to, a tab portion (40) of one of the cover sheets (14).

Medical dressing package and methods

A disposable hinged box (2) for surgical articles. The container (2) has certain design features to facilitate accounting of small surgical implements. An oblique bifurcation between the container cover (6) and container bottom (4), together with a guard (36, 38) forms a cradle within the cover for retaining implements therein. The container is particularly suited for holding syringes within the container cover (6) and accounting for needles, or suture, within the container bottom (4).

Hinged container for surgical articles

A disposable surgical drape (10). It includes a tubular-shaped protective film (14) with a pull-tab (24) which lends itself to remote removal from an adhesive layer (20) on the protective film (14) so that the drape can be secured to a patient (22) without contamination of the incision area. An embodiment of the drape (10) comprises a protective film (14) which, when circumferentially spaced portions thereof are bonded together by, for example, a heat seal (15), defines a channel (16) which can function as a fluid conduit to remove bodily fluids from the surgical incision area.

Staple remover

A medical stapler including a ram adapted to push a staple along a passageway from an inlet opening into which staples are fed, to an outlet opening where the staple is ejected and closed about an anvil portion. A manually activated drive mechanism is adapted to move the ram and staple from the inlet to the outlet opening, will leave the ram across the outlet opening to prevent another staple from being fed into the channel if manual activation of the stapler is discontinued before the staple is ejected, and will couple the ram to the drive mechanism when the ram reaches its eject position so that the ram will subsequently be retracted with the drive mechanism. Also the stapler clicks when the ram reaches its eject position to provide both an audible and tactile indication that the staple has been fully closed.
