An event-triggered pairing mechanism allows pairing wireless devices having short range interfaces (e.g., Bluetooth devices) by bumping the wireless devices together. A wireless device being paired with a connecting device detects a bump event; exchanges time information about the bump event with the connecting device; authenticates the connecting device based on the exchanged time information; and allows exchange of user data with the connecting device based on verification of the exchanged time information. Once the devices are paired, user content can be securely exchanged between the devices.

Event triggered pairing of wireless communication devices based on time measurements

Methods and apparatus for synchronizing contact information between a first communication device associated with a first user and a second communication device associated with a second user are disclosed. An exemplary method comprises monitoring the occurrence of a trigger on the first communication device and transferring, in response to the trigger, a first data object to the second communication device, the first data object comprising data relevant to two or more contact entries associated with the first communication device and an invitation to synchronize. In response to the first data object, a response data object is received from the second communication device, the response data object comprising either more recent data associated with at least one of the contact entries indicated in the first data object, or a request for more recent data associated with at least one of the contact entries indicated in the first data object, or both.

Method and apparatus for event-based synchronization of information between communication devices

A dual mode user terminal for a calling party can make calls over both a conventional cellular network and a packet data network using VoIP protocols. If the called party is not available to receive a VoIP call over the packet data network, the user terminal for the calling party can request a third party user terminal available on the packet data network to relay the call between the calling party and the called party.

Method and apparatus for relaying calls

An electronic device has a display, a controller, and a pair of haptic transducers connected to the display. The controller configures the haptic transducers to momentarily vibrate the display. A pair of sensors disposed on the display detects variations caused by the user touch in the vibrations. Based on an analysis of these variations, the controller can determine the location of the user touch on the touch-sensitive display.

Methods and systems for supplying data objects to users of a communication system are disclosed. In an exemplary method a session is established between a first and second communication device, and a primary data object providing first information pertaining to a user of the first communication device is transferred to the second communication device upon the occurrence of a triggering event at the first communication device. A request for a secondary data object is transferred from the second communication device to a data server, the request including the first information and further including information pertaining to the user of the second communication device. A secondary data object intended for rendering at the first and second communication devices is created and transferred to the first and second communication devices.

System and method for sharing common location-related information between communication devices

The wireless receiver of the present invention accommodates dual-carrier Evolved EDGE without significantly impacting existing receiver architectures. The inventive receiver comprises a shared local oscillator and two image-rejecting downconverters. The local oscillator generates a local oscillator frequency between two carrier frequencies of adjacent radio channels. The receiver receives a signal in each of the adjacent radio channels. In a dual-carrier mode, a first image-rejecting downconverter uses the local oscillator frequency to downconvert a first signal received in the first radio channel while rejecting a second signal received in the second radio channel. A second image-rejecting downconverter uses the local oscillator frequency to downconvert the second signal while rejecting the first signal. In a diversity mode, the first and second image-rejecting downconverters use the local oscillator frequency to downconvert the signal received in one of the radio channels while rejecting the signal received in the other radio channel.

Evolved EDGE receiver

Methods and apparatus for processing received signals in a multi-carrier system are disclosed. An exemplary method includes estimating one or more first propagation channel coefficients based on a training sequence in each of one or more first slots received over a first radio channel, equalizing signal samples from one or more second slots received over a second radio channel immediately frequency-adjacent to the first radio channel, using the first propagation channel coefficients, and demodulating user data bits from the equalized signal samples. In some embodiments, the training sequence is located at a fixed position in each of the one or more first slots and user data bits are demodulated from a directly corresponding position in each of the second slots. Improved data rates are thus achieved by constraining radio carriers in a multi-carrier system to frequency-adjacent channels and eliminating training symbols from one of the signals.

Reuse of training sequence between frequency-adjacent radio signals

The wireless communication device and corresponding method described herein selectively switches between a single-frequency mode, such as appropriate for an EDGE network, and a multiple-frequency mode, such as appropriate for a multi-carrier EDGE network. Accordingly, a transmitting wireless communication device selectively switches between a single-channel mapping unit, used during the single-frequency mode, and a multi-channel mapping unit, used during the multiple-frequency mode. The multi-channel mapping unit modulates input data to output a modulated data stream for each of multiple adjacent frequency channels that, when combined, produce a multiple-frequency signal with reduced peak-to-average ratio. A receiving wireless communication device selectively switches between a single-channel demodulator, used during the single-frequency mode, and a multi-channel demodulator, used during the multiple-frequency mode.

A technique for supplying alternative contact information when a communication attempt is unsuccessful is described. The technique comprises receiving an inquiry that includes an indication of an unsuccessful communication attempt and an identifier or address for the target of the failed communication attempt. Next, it is determined whether the identifier or address is associated with a group. If so, a response is generated, the response including one or more other identifiers or addresses associated with the group. Finally, the generated response is transferred in response to the inquiry.

Methods and apparatus for supplying alternative contact information in a communication system

Systems for providing location determination information to an assisted location service associated with a wireless communication network include a satellite positioning system receiver that generates a set of first format location information based on measurements of signals transmitted from positioning system satellites. A conversion circuit of the system, separate from the satellite positioning system receiver, is configured to receive the set of first format location information from the satellite positioning system receiver and to convert the set of first format location information to a second format, different from the first format to provide the location determination information. The system further includes a transmitter configured to transmit the location determination information to the assisted location service over the wireless communication network. Methods and computer program products for providing location determination information to an assisted location service associated with a wireless communication network are also provided.

A data link, e.g., an audio and/or video data link, is established from a data source, such as an audio and/or video encoder, to a data recipient via an adjustable synchronous radio channel, such as an extended Synchronous Connection-Oriented (eSCO) channel between first and second Bluetooth&#x2122; devices. A quality of the data link is determined. A transmission interval and a retransmission criterion of the adjustable synchronous radio channel and an error correction coding of the data link are adjusted responsive to the determined quality of the data link to, for example, maintain a fixed information transfer rate over the data link. The transmission interval and retransmission criterion of the adjustable synchronous radio channel and an error correction coding of the data link may be adjusted by communicating channel parameters between the first and second devices over the radio channel to adjust the transmission interval and the retransmission criterion of the adjustable synchronous radio channel.

A mass storage and subscriber identity module includes a frame and a mass storage device supported by the frame. The module also include a first connector supported by the frame and configured to be removably connected to a smart card and a second connector supported by the frame, electrically coupled to the mass storage device and the first connector, and configured to be removably connected to an electronic device. A method for scheduling another time for a communication session when a called party is presently unable or unwilling to accept an incoming call. A first user's communications device receives a request for a communication session from a second user's communications device. Upon failure to accept the request, a server automatically forms a calendar data object, such as in response to receipt of a scheduling trigger message from the first communications device that includes an indication of the failure to accept and an identifier of the second user. The calendar data object includes scheduling information indicating, explicitly and/or implicitly, future time(s) when the first user is available. The calendar data object is sent to either one of the devices, and a time is selected. The server then notifies the other device of the selected time. Corresponding devices are also described.

A wireless communication device includes a Near Field Communication (NFC) interface, a transceiver, and a controller. The NFC interface receives data related to multimedia content from an external NFC tag responsive to establishing an NFC link with the NFC tag.
