Compounds which are useful as insecticide activators are described herein. The compounds are defined by the following formula: ##STR1## wherein R is selected from the group consisting of lower alkoxy, dimethyl, trimethyl, halogen, dihalogen, trifluoromethyl, acetyl, acetamido, carbomethoxy, carbethoxy, methylenedioxy and ##STR2## and R' is methyl or ethyl.

The novel compound diethyl 2-pyridine thionophosphonate ##STR1## has been found to possess insecticidal activation properties when combined with the known insecticide N-(mercaptomethyl) phthalimide S-(O,O-dimethyl phosphorodithioate).

Compounds which are useful as insecticide activators are described herein. The compounds are defined by the following formula: ##STR1## wherein R is selected from the group consisting of chlorine, trifluoromethyl, methoxy, and methylenedioxy; and R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 can be the same or different and are selected from the group consisting of lower alkyl having from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, inclusive.

Substituted vinyl thiophosphate activators

The effect of the compound ##STR1## as an insecticide is enchanced by the addition of a compound of the formula ##STR2## wherein R and R.sub.1 are methyl or ethyl.

Insecticide compositions

A composition of matter is described herein which is useful as an activator for insecticides. The activator composition is defined by the formula ##STR1## wherein R is selected from the group consisting of methyl, ethyl, n-propyl, i-propyl and i-butyl; R.sub.1 is selected from the group consisting of methyl, ethyl, n-propyl, i-propyl, n-butyl, and i-butyl; R.sub.2 is selected from the group consisting of phenyl, substituted phenyl wherein said substituents are selected from methyl, ethyl, i-propyl, t-butyl, methoxy, ethoxy and dimethylamino; phenalkyl and substituted phenalkyl wherein said substituents are selected from chlorine, methyl, i-propyl and methoxy.

Phosphorus containing insecticide activators

A composition of matter is described herein which is useful as an activator for insecticides. The activator composition is defined by the formula: ##EQU1## wherein R is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and lower alkyl; R.sub.1 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, alkyl and cycloalkyl; R.sub.2 is selected from the group consisting of lower alkoxy and ##EQU2## wherein R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 can be the same or different and are selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and lower alkyl.
