Simulated photographic prints are created using xerographic imaging. A transparent carrier having a xerographically formed mirror image fused thereto is bonded to a plastic substrate through the use of heat and pressure. The transparent carrier and the plastic substrate passed through a heat pressure fuser to form the finished print.

Auxiliary processor for making simulated photographic prints

Simulated photographic-quality prints are created using non-photographic imaging such as xerography and ink jet. Reverse or wrong reading toner images are formed on a transparent substrate which is adhered to a coated backing sheet. The backing sheet is coated with a polymer material which seves as an adhesive and has a glass transition temperature less than 55.degree. C. A hydrophilic polymer coating having a melting point greater than 50.degree. C. contacting the adhesive polymer serves as a wetting agent for providing an enhanced optical interface as well as protection for the adhesive polymer which has a lower melting point than the adhesive polymer.

Simulated photographic-quality prints using a transparent substrate

Simulated photographic prints are created using xerographic imaging. A transparent carrier having a xerographically formed mirror image fused thereto is bonded to a plastic substrate through the use of heat and pressure. The transparent carrier and the plastic substrate form the finished print.

Simulated photographic prints using a reflective coating

A video signal white level corrector wherein a digital memory is used to store a correction signal which is applied to a signal multiplier to remove white level shading which results from optic and beam misalignment of a scanner. Video signals are applied to a multiplier 10, the output therefrom being the corrected video signal. The correction signal is stored for future use in a digital memory 14 after being compared to a reference voltage at comparator 20. In a first, or 'store', mode, the output from the comparator 20 is coupled to an integrator 22, the output of which increases or decreases the gain of multiplier 10. In a second, or 'operate', mode, the output from the digital memory is coupled to integrator 22 to also control the gain of multiplier 10.

Video signal white level corrector

Method and apparatus for showing the relative range from an active line scan sensor to a target, the changes in range being shown on a recording medium as an alternate series of bright and dark lines. In particular, a modulated laser beam having high frequency components is utilized to illuminate the target, the reflected energy received at the sensor having the same modulation frequency but phase modified by the transit time required to make the roundtrip from the sensor to the target and return. The phase difference between the received energy and the transmitted, or reference, energy is detected by a phase demodulator, the detected phase difference corresponding to range contour lines. A reflectivity signal corresponding to the reflectance of the target is also provided. The range contour and reflectivity signals can be simultaneously recorded on a recording medium. Alternately, the reflectivity signal may be gated by the range contour signal producing a composite image on the medium. Points in the image formed on the recording medium where the phase angles are the same can be made to appear white while the points where the phase angles differ by 180.degree. can be made to appear black. The difference in the range between two black lines is equal to a specific sub-interval of the wavelength of the effective laser modulation frequency, the sub-interval being 1/n where n is the harmonic of the effective laser modulation frequency. The scanning laser may be a mode locked laser, thereby providing a light output having a high requency components and precise frequency and phase stability.

Imagery with constant range lines

Method and apparatus for producing imagery of an object having distinct vertical geometry characteristics located at a reference plane remote from a scanning laser. In particular, a laser beam is utilized to scan objects at the reference plane and the optical signal reflected therefrom, corresponding to the reflectivity of the objects and background, is detected. An electrical signal, corresponding to the detected reflectivity signal, is coupled to an RF amplifier, the output of the RF amplifier being applied to an amplitude demodulator. The output of the amplitude demodulator, corresponding to the reflectivity and vertical geometry characteristics of the object at the reference plane, is applied to a recording device to produce the aforementioned imagery.

Time domain laser reconnaissance technique

The output beam from a laser scans an input document and the signal reflected therefrom, corresponding to information on the document, is detected and amplified in a first amplifier and converted to an electrical signal. The laser beam is also sampled prior to scanning the document, the beam being detected and converted to an electrical signal which is then amplified in a second amplifier. The outputs of the first and second amplifiers are coupled to a gain control device. The gain versus control voltage characteristic of the device is selected such that the voltage from the second amplifier controls the voltage output from the device whereby noise present in the output laser beam which modulates the output signal from the first amplifier is substantially eliminated.

Method and apparatus for reducing the effect of laser noise in a

Method and apparatus for scanning a document original, either black and white or color, and reproducing a corresponding halftone reproduction thereof either locally or at a remote location. A halftone signal is generated by pulse width modulating or comparing the scanned, or video, signal with a periodic signal having two frequencies and phases to create a dot pattern output which is a function of the frequency and phase of the two combined modulating signals. The halftone reproduction generated has variable dot configurations that are controllable to enable both rotation of the dot pattern (screen angle) and geometric modifications of the dot pattern. If the document original is in color, light of three different colors is caused to scan the document, each resultant video signal being processed in a manner as set forth hereinabove. In a preferred embodiment, different screen angles are utilized for each color that comprises the reproduction.

Electronic halftone generator

Reproducing the information stored in the spiral track of a record-type information-bearing disc is achieved by uniformly charging the surface of the disc by means of a corona-generating device disposed in proximity to the disc, and, thereafter, using a conductive stylus riding in the track of the disc to pick up the charge from only the peak points of the track. All peaks are at the same height. The system preferably uses FM encoding, and the information is carried by the track according to the peak-to-peak spacing. The stylus is shaped in relation to the track such that it may not touch the peaks in the track. The stylus contacts the sides of the track for tracking purposes. An air breakdown between the peaks and the metallic portion of the stylus results in the signal picked up by the stylus.
