A magnetic field induction coupled RFID system for scanning and reading at least one object having an RFID tag or inlay label device attached or embedded therein to impart a unique identity to each of the objects. The RFID tag has two distinct modes of air interface protocol operation, such that the tag is capable of being read at close proximity range by a device utilizing a command-and-control protocol, such as an NFC-protocol compatible smartphone or similarly functioning device, and alternatively by an RFID reader utilizing a different protocol capable of supporting efficient high-speed anti-collision features for enabling fast inventorying at item level of retail store items, warehousing, customs and logistics operations over considerably greater interrogation distances, where both protocols utilize substantially the same carrier frequency.

Multipurpose RFID transponder and a system for reading it

The RFID tag has two distinct modes of air interface protocols operating in the same frequency band (e.g., HF band), such that the tag is capable of being read at close proximity range by a device utilizing a command-and-control protocol, such as an NFC-protocol compatible smartphone or similarly functioning device, and alternatively by an RFID reader utilizing a different protocol capable of supporting efficient high-speed anti-collision features for enabling fast inventorying at item level of retail store items, warehousing, customs and logistics operations over considerably greater interrogation distances. The passive RFID can further include a third mode of air interface protocol operating in a different (second), e.g., UHF, frequency band, such as EPCGlobal Class-1 Generation-2 conforming protocol, or a commandless asynchronous protocol operating at UHF.

The present invention concerns apparatus for efficiently dispensing and applying a wristband identification bracelet that is meant for attachment around an extremity of an animal or person. The apparatus is provided with a supply of identity bands that are adapted to become a bracelet by having a first portion of the band affixed to a second portion to form a continuous loop around the extremity. The extremity is positioned within a receptacle in the apparatus, permitting the identification band to be wrapped closely around the extremity by the band fixing mechanism of the apparatus. The identification band is fixed to itself to form a bracelet, so as to prevent its removal from the extremity without damaging the integrity of the bracelet. The identification bracelet comprises an integral RFID inlay component, and particularly an RFID component whereby all of the RFID circuit is realised in low cost fully printed silicon ink TFT semiconductor form as opposed to a conventional integrated circuit (IC) chip used in prior art RFID inlays.

An electronic label reading system includes an interrogator including a transmitter and a receiver. The system also has a transmitter antenna connected to the transmitter for generating an interrogation electromagnetic field through which objects possessing code responding labels may pass. The code responding labels include label receiving antennas for receiving from the interrogation field a label interrogation signal, and generate label reply signals, and, from the label reply signals, reply electromagnetic fields. The system also has a receiver antenna connected to the receiver for receiving the reply signals from the label reply fields. The interrogation field and label reply fields provide a communication channel from the labels to the interrogator, and the interrogator signals to the labels condition information indicative of the condition of the communication channel.

Electronic label reading system

An identification system having an electronic label for processing articles such as baggage or carrier cargo. The system uses the principle of electromagnetic communication in which an interrogator containing a transmitter generates an electromagnetic field through which the electronic label containing a label receiving antenna may pass. The electronic label is attached to the article being processed and includes means for sensing the electromagnetic field and means for generating intermittently repeated label reply signals. The system includes a receiver for detecting and decoding the label reply signal. The electronic label replies intermittently as long as it is within the electromagnetic field, and the field is maintained for a period of time which is greater than the time interval between the intermittently repeated label replies. The electronic label also includes means for determining the interval between the intermittently repeated label reply signals without reference to timing signals external to the label. The interval between label reply signals varies from label to label and is greater than the time required for a label reply.

An identification and telemetry system comprising: a signal responding label including a first antenna for receiving an interrogation signal and for scattering a reply signal, an impedance connected to the first antenna, means for generating the reply signal and means for varying the impedance connected to the first antenna in accordance with the reply signal; and an interrogator comprising a second antenna for transmitting an interrogation signal and for receiving the reply signal, a transmitter connected to the second antenna and including a generator of pulsed radio frequency energy, means for separating the reply signal from the transmitted signal, a receiver connected to the second antenna and means within the receiver for detecting and decoding the reply signal.
