An approach is provided for sensing changes in a physical environment, where a transmitter transmits a request for measurement of at least one symbol. The request includes an identifier and an indication of the at least one symbol. A signal comprising the at least one symbol is transmitted, and a measurement report for the at least one symbol is received. A receiver receives a request for measurement of at least one symbol in which the request includes an identifier and an indication of the at least one symbol. A signal including the at least one symbol is received. Measurements are reported on the at least one symbol to provide a measurement report, and the measurement report is transmitted.

Receiver, transmitter, device, methods and computer programs for feedback sensing

A wireless device () configures a carrier for communication with a serving access point (). The wireless device () maintains a virtual carrier sense timer. The virtual carrier sense timer indicates that the carrier is to be regarded as occupied as long as the virtual carrier sense timer is not expired. The wireless device () receives one or more wireless transmissions on the carrier. The one or more wireless transmissions each include: an identifier commonly assigned to multiple access points which cooperate by sharing a transmission opportunity, and a duration field for indicating a duration for which the carrier is expected to be occupied. In response to the identifier matching an identifier of the serving access point (), the wireless device () updates the virtual carrier sense timer according to the indicated duration. Based on the virtual carrier sense timer, the wireless device () controls one or more UL wireless transmissions from the wireless device ().

Control of uplink wireless transmissions in shared TXOP

Methods and apparatus are provided. In an example aspect, a method of transmitting a signal is provided. The method includes transmitting a frequency hopping signal on a first plurality of frequency channels in a first bandwidth using a first interference detect and avoid (DAA) scheme for each of the plurality of frequency channels, detecting interference in a predetermined proportion of the first plurality of frequency channels, and transmitting the frequency hopping signal on a second plurality of frequency channels in a second bandwidth smaller than the first bandwidth without using the first interference DAA scheme in response to detecting interference in the predetermined proportion of the first plurality of frequency channels.

Methods and apparatus are provided, including in an example a method for transmitting data, wherein the data includes a preamble. The method comprises transmitting the data including the preamble, wherein the preamble includes a first portion comprising a predetermined bit sequence repeated a predetermined number of times, and a second portion comprising a Barker bit sequence.

Transmitting data or determining a frequency and timing estimate of a received signal

A method is disclosed—for a wireless communication device served by a network access node—of keeping a time reference at the wireless communication device. The wireless communication device is configured for operation according to at least first and second operational modes, the second operational mode having lower power consumption than the first operational mode. The method comprises (during operation according to the first operational mode) determining (for the second operational mode) desired timings of timing signals to be transmitted from the network access node, and transmitting a request signal to the network access node, wherein the request signal carries information of the desired timings of timing signals to be transmitted from the network access node. In some embodiments, the method further comprises receiving a response signal from the network access node, wherein the response signal carries information of actual timings of timing signals to be transmitted from the network access node. Corresponding method for a network access node, apparatuses, wireless communication device, network access node and computer program product are also disclosed.

Keeping a time reference

A method is disclosed of a transmitter configured to transmit a physical layer packet in accordance with a listen-before-talk procedure. The method includes acquiring an indication of a specific time for channel estimation, providing the physical layer packet with at least one measurement signal for channel estimation based on the specific time, and transmitting the physical layer packet. In some embodiments, the physical layer packet is provided with a plurality of midambles, wherein each midamble includes one or more measurement signals for channel estimation. In some embodiments, the physical layer packet is provided with a floating midamble which comprises one or more measurement signals for channel estimation. A method is also disclosed of a receiver configured to receive a physical layer packet transmitted in accordance with a listen-before-talk procedure.

Measurement signal for channel estimation

A packet format is disclosed for transmission of data packets over a communication channel, wherein transmission of one of the data packets utilizes a frequency bandwidth, and wherein the frequency bandwidth is dynamically variable between data packets. The packet format defines a frequency bandwidth detection field, wherein the frequency bandwidth detection field of a data packet has a first field content or a second field content, and wherein corresponding parts of the first and second field contents are orthogonal to each other. The first field content is indicative of that transmission of the data packet utilizes a first frequency bandwidth and the second field content is indicative of that transmission of the data packet utilizes a frequency bandwidth which is larger than the first frequency bandwidth. Corresponding methods and apparatuses for transmission/reception of data packets are also disclosed.

Packet format for transmission of data packets

A method for a wake-up transmitter comprises generating a wakeup signal (WUS) from a digital WUS sequence having an information symbol rate and a corresponding information symbol bandwidth, and transmitting the WUS over a frequency range having a signal bandwidth, wherein the signal bandwidth is larger than twice the information symbol rate, and wherein any frequency interval comprised in the frequency range conveys the digital WUS sequence when a width of the frequency interval is at least the information symbol bandwidth. A corresponding method for a wake-up receiver comprises receiving the WUS over the frequency range, and filtering the received WUS through a filter having a filter bandwidth for passing the information symbol bandwidth of the received WUS. Corresponding apparatuses, wake-up transmitter, wake-up receiver, communication device and computer program product are also disclosed.

A method is disclosed of a transmitter configured to transmit a physical layer packet having a plurality of midambles. The method comprises applying a respective phase shift for each midamble of the physical layer packet, and transmitting the physical layer packet. The respective phase shift is applied to at least a portion of symbols of the midamble. A method is also disclosed of a receiver configured to receive a physical layer packet having a plurality of midambles. The method comprises receiving the physical layer packet, and counteracting a respective phase shift for each midamble of the physical layer packet. Counteracting the respective phase shift comprises applying an opposite of the respective phase shift to at least a portion of symbols of the midamble or compensating the respective phase shift for at least a portion of symbols of the midamble.

Transmission and reception of a physical layer packet with midambles

An access point of a wireless communication system configures a carrier for communication with one or more wireless devices associated with the access point. Based on a backoff counter maintained by the access point, the access point contends for access to the carrier to transmit data. In response to another access point winning contention for access to the carrier, the access point cooperates at least with the access point winning the contention by sharing a transmission opportunity reserved on the carriers by the access point winning the contention and transmitting at least a part of the data in the shared transmission opportunity. During the shared transmission opportunity the access point pauses the backoff counter.

Backoff counter handling for TXOP sharing

A wireless communication node () and method therein for generating and transmitting a modulated radio frequency (RF) signal by means of backscattering are disclosed. The wireless communication node () comprises an antenna () configured to receive a illuminating RF signal, a switch () that has M states, a set of impedances () comprising Mimpedances (Z1, Z2 . . . ZM). The antenna () is coupled to the set of impedances () by the switch (). The wireless communication node () further comprises a modulating value generator () configured to generate modulating values based on data to be transmitted and a frequency offset and a switch controller () configured to switch the state of the switch () based on the generated modulating values such that the antenna () is connected to a selected impedance among the M impedances. The received illuminating RF signal at the antenna () is modulated by the generated modulating values and reflected by the antenna () to generate and transmit the modulated RF signal. The switching rate is an integer multiple of the data rate, the integer is greater than 1 and the center frequency of the modulated RF signal has the frequency offset with respect to the center frequency of the received illuminating RF signal.

Communication node and method for generating modulated signals by backscattering

A method is disclosed of a transmitter configured to transmit a physical layer packet comprising a plurality of measurement signals for channel estimation. The method includes configuring the transmitter to use different precoding settings for at least two of the plurality of measurement signals for channel estimation, and transmitting the physical layer packet. In some embodiments, at least one of the plurality of measurement signals for channel estimation occurs outside of a preamble of the physical layer packet (e.g., in a midamble). A method of a corresponding receiver is also disclosed. Corresponding apparatuses, wireless communication device, and computer program product are also disclosed.

An access point () of a wireless communication system configures a carrier for communication with one or more wireless devices () associated with the access point (). Further, the access point () contends for access to the carrier and, in response to winning contention for access to the carrier, reserves a transmission opportunity, TXOP, on the carrier. Further, the access point () cooperates with one or more other access points () of the wireless communication system by sharing the TXOP based on spatial multiplexing of wireless transmissions on the carrier.

Methods are disclosed for communication devices capable of simultaneous transmission and reception, wherein a first method is for reception of a packet comprising a header and a payload and a second method is for transmission of a packet comprising a header and a payload. The first method comprises receiving at least a part of the header, attempting to decode the part of the header, and (when the part of the header is successfully decoded) transmitting a header acknowledgement signal. Acknowledgement for simultaneous transmission and reception

A method performed in a base station for frequency calibration of a receiver is disclosed. The base station generates a first signal with periodic ASK modulation and transmits the first signal as a preamble or frequency marker signal to facilitate frequency calibration of the receiver. The receiver sweeps its oscillator frequency to detect if there is a preamble or frequency marker signal present. When it is determined that there is a signal present, the oscillator frequency of the receiver is calibrated to the transmitting frequency of the base station. The base station then transmits a second signal as a wakeup signal to the receiver.
