A cutting insert includes an insert body having a central longitudinal axis. The insert body has a first radial side and a second radial side. A first axial side includes a first relief face, a second relief face, and a first recess having a first bottom surface. The first relief face, the second relief face, and the first bottom surface are arranged such that each point of same is visible from either a first side view towards the first radial side or from a second side view towards the second radial side. The insert body is longer along the longitudinal direction at a central portion towards the central longitudinal axis than at an outer portion towards one of the first or second radial sides. Further a milling tool is disclosed.

Cutting insert and milling tool

A milling insert, including an upperside, an underside, and a reference plane parallel thereto. A plurality of indexable cutting edges are formed along a peripheral borderline in transitions between at least the upperside and a number of clearance surfaces. Each cutting edge includes a chip-removing main edge and a surface-wiping secondary edge. The main edge, from a first end of the main edge adjacent to the secondary edge, first declines toward the underside of the milling insert and then, from a lowest part, rises toward an opposite second end of the main edge. The secondary edge is inclined at an angle (&#x3b5;) in relation to the reference plane as viewed perpendicularly to the clearance surface of the secondary edge, such that a first end of the secondary edge connected to the main edge is situated on a lower level than the opposite, second end of the secondary edge.

Milling insert

A milling insert, including an upperside, an underside, and a reference plane parallel thereto. A plurality of indexable cutting edges are formed along a peripheral borderline in transitions between at least the upperside and a number of clearance surfaces. Each cutting edge includes a chip-removing main edge and a surface-wiping secondary edge. The main edge, from a first end of the main edge adjacent to the secondary edge, declines toward the underside of the milling insert and then, from a lowest part, rises toward an opposite second end of the main edge. The secondary edge is inclined at an angle (&#x3b5;) in relation to the reference plane as viewed perpendicularly to the clearance surface of the secondary edge, such that a first end of the secondary edge connected to the main edge is situated on a lower level than the opposite, second end of the secondary edge.

A double-sided, indexable face milling insert, including an upperside, an underside, and a neutral plane (NP) parallel to the upperside and the underside, the neutral plane forming a right angle with a geometrical center axis (C). A plurality of indexable cutting edges are formed along circumferential borderlines in transitions between a number of clearance surfaces and the upperside as well as the underside. Each cutting edge includes a chip-removing main edge and a surface-wiping secondary edge, the secondary edge forming an obtuse angle with the main edge in planar view. A corner clearance surface extends between and connects each pair of upper and lower secondary edges, the corner clearance surface including first and second part surfaces which each form an acute angle (&#x3b7;) in side elevation view with respective reference planes (RP) parallel to the neutral plane.

Cutting insert for chip removing machining

A drilling tool includes a basic body defining a center axis of rotation and having two chip channels and two replaceable indexable cutting bits in the form of a center bit and a periphery bit mounted in respective center and periphery pockets formed in an axially front end of the basic body. The center bit and the center pocket are spaced radially from the periphery bit and the periphery pocket along a first diametrical plane of the basic body. At least the center bit includes four identically-shaped cutting edges, one of which constituting an operative cutting edge intersected by a second diametrical plane oriented perpendicularly to the first diametrical plane. Each cutting edge of the center bit comprises first and second part edges joined by a transition edge portion. The first and second part edges of the operative cutting edge constitutes operative first and second part edges, respectively; the operative first part edge being spaced from the center axis and situated closer than the operative second part edge to an outer periphery of the basic body. An axially forwardmost portion of the operative first part edge is disposed axially forwardly of an axially forwardmost portion of the operative second part edge, and an axially forwardmost portion of an operative cutting edge of the periphery bit lies axially between the axially forwardmost portions of the operative first and second part edges of the center bit, respectively.

A drilling tool includes a shaft having a front end to which a cutting body provided with cutting edges is detachably connected. In the front end of the shaft, a seat is formed which is delimited by spaced-apart protrusions between which there is a bottom surface. In the protrusion, there is a threaded hole for a screw, which when tightened applies pre-stressing forces to the cutting body. On the inside of the opposite protrusion, there is a supporting shoulder against which the cutting body is pressed when the screw is tightened and applies a lateral pre-stressing force to the cutting body. The protrusions are laterally displaced in relation to each other in order to freely expose the screw beside one of the protrusions.
