The invention relates to absorption articles such as diapers or sanitary napkins comprising partly a liquid permeable first outer layer and a preferably liquid impermeable second outer layer applied to either side of an absorption body encased therein; partly elastic members applied under tension and intended for bringing the edge portions of said article into tightly sealing contact with the body of the wearer. The primary distinguishing feature of the inventive article is that the elastic members are comprised in a network.

An absorbent article, such as a diaper, a sanitary towel or bandage, having an absorbent core, a liquid-permeable topsheet intended to be in contact with the wearer when the article is worn, and a liquid-impermeable layer arranged on the opposite side of the absorbent core. The liquid-permeable topsheet comprises a perforated but otherwise liquid-impermeable layer, the perforations comprising straight ducts which are of uniform width along the whole of their lengths. The ends of these ducts freely project away from the topsheet and extend into the absorbent core. Fibers extend into the ducts in a manner such that the fiber density in the ducts decreases in a direction away from the free ends of the ducts, so that the fibers form capillaries which taper toward the interior of the absorbent article.

The invention relates to an absorbent article, such as a sanitary towel, diaper or bandage, having an upper layer or topsheet made of a liquid-impermeable material, the topsheet being provided with openings and being intended to lie against the body of the wearer. The invention is mainly characterized in that the openings are located in depressions arranged in the topsheet and in such wall portions of the depressions which, when seen from the mouths of the depressions, form at least a right angle to the plane of the topsheet; and in that the bottoms of the depressions, when projected perpendicularly to the plane of the topsheet, substantially cover the mouths of the depressions in this plane.

A package for menstrual protectors such as sanitary napkins and pads or panty protectors has one side coated with pressure-sensitive adhesive for securing the napkin to the underwear of the user. A plurality of napkins have their adhering side releasably fixed to a plastic film or the like. When the film with the attached napkins is folded, the napkins are placed on top of each other forming one or more piles enclosed by the film. The overlapping edges of the film extending laterally beyond the protectors are then sealed together.

A method and apparatus for manufacturing a package from a package blank which includes a series of lateral surfaces and end wall sections connected by fold lines are disclosed. The method disclosed includes folding the package blank along fold lines between the lateral surfaces, moving such partially formed package blank along a predetermined path, and rotating the package blank while it is moving along that path while at the same time sequentially folding the end wall sections along a second set of fold lines at one end of the package so as to form an end wall surface at that end. The apparatus disclosed includes forming means for forming the package blank into a partially folded package including lateral surfaces, the forming means including rotating means for rotating the forming means, moving means for moving the package along a predetermined path, and folding means for sequentially folding end wall sections at one end of the package as the package blank is moving along the predetermined path in order to form end wall surface for the package.

The invention relates to a disposable diaper, comprising a layer of a liquid-permeable, preferably non-woven material, intended to be placed in contact with the body of the user, and of a second layer of a liquid-impermeable material, between which layers an absorbent body is arranged, these two layers extending laterally outside the edges of the absorbent body. The special features of the diaper according to the invention are that the two layers beginning at the crotch portion extend laterally outside those side edges with a continuously increasing distance from the same towards the rear end of the diaper, thereby providing flaps with a gradually increasing width on both sides of the absorbent body, that at least one pretensioned elastic thread or the like is arranged in an essentially V-shaped pattern with the point of the pattern placed in the middle of the front end of the diaper and, that the portions of the thread running from the point extend from the middle of the front end of the diaper to the end of the crotch portion and continue along the edges of the flaps to the rear end of the diaper so that the flaps, when the diaper is in use will be in tight contact with the bottom of the user.

In a menstrual tampon comprising one or more webs 1, rolled up in several layers around each other, of moisture-absorbing material, a pull string 2 is anchored and extends out of the tampon. This string is laid around the web 1 in at least two consecutive loops which, with portions 6 running back and forth approximately longitudinally to the tampon, surround and are in contact with at least two opposite side edges 7,8 of the web 1 of absorbent material, and extend out of one end of the tampon.
