Sintering method with cooling from sintering temperature to below

There is provided a coated cutting insert particularly useful for finishing operations in milling of grey cast iron. The insert has a fine-grained WC-Co cemented carbide body and a coating of multiple layers of TiC.sub.x N.sub.y deposited at conditions aiming to minimize the decarburization of the cutting edge without any negative effects on the substrate. There is also disclosed a method of applying a TiC.sub.x N.sub.y layer by CVD technique on a cemented carbide cutting insert without eta phase formation and without etching of the binder phase.

Coated cutting insert

A coated cutting insert particularly useful for intermittent cutting of low alloyed steel. The insert is characterized by a WC-Co-based cemented carbide body having a highly W-alloyed Co-binder phase and a coating including an inner layer of TiC.sub.x N.sub.y O.sub.z with columnar grains and an outer coating of a fine grained, textured .alpha.-Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 -layer.

Coated cutting insert and method of manufacture thereof

The present invention relates to CVD-coated cemented carbide tool used for chip forming machining. More particularly, it relates to a coating with an intermediate layer acting as a diffusion barrier thus influencing the coating structure and coating adhesion of the following layer.

Method for making a coated cutting tool

A coated turning insert particularly useful for turning of forged components of stainless steel low alloyed steel. The insert is characterized by a WC-Co cemented carbide body having a highly W-alloyed Co-binder phase and a coating including an innermost layer of TiC.sub.x N.sub.y O.sub.z with columnar grains and a top layer of fine grained .kappa.-Al.sub.2 O.sub.3.

Coated turning insert

The present invention relates to a cemented carbide insert, comprising a cemented carbide substrate and a coating. The substrate contains WC and cubic carbonitride phase in a binder phase based of Co and/or Ni and has a binder phase enriched surface zone essentially free of cubic phase. The binder phase enriched surface zone prevails over the edge. As a result, an insert according to the invention has improved edge toughness and resistance against plastic deformation and is particularly useful for machining of sticky work piece materials such as stainless steel.
