A system in a vehicle includes a personal thermal device. The personal thermal device provides heating or cooling to an individual occupant of the vehicle. The system also includes a controller implementing reinforcement learning to control the personal thermal device. The controller obtains states, from one or more sensors, indicating current conditions, to obtain a score that is determined according to the states and that represents a reward used in the reinforcement learning. The controller provides a stochastic policy indicating a probability of taking a particular action to control the personal thermal device based on the score acting as a feedback for feedback control of the personal thermal device using the reinforcement learning.

Adaptive personal thermal control in a vehicle

A self-calibration method of determining remaining useful life of an internal combustion engine's air filter includes establishing a pressure drop versus mass airflow rate relationship for a clean air filter using pressure drop, mass airflow rate, and temperature data captured at low and elevated engine speeds. The method also includes establishing a maximum clean air filter pressure drop at a preset maximum airflow using the clean filter relationship. The method additionally includes establishing a pressure drop versus mass airflow rate relationship for an in-service air filter using pressure drop, mass airflow rate, and temperature data captured at low and elevated engine speeds. The method also includes determining a maximum in-service air filter pressure drop at the preset maximum airflow using the in-service filter relationship. The method further includes comparing the maximum clean and in-service air filter pressure drops to determine the remaining useful life of the in-service air filter.

Self-calibrating engine air filter life monitoring system

A method for diagnosing an air filter status includes receiving, by a controller, sensor data indicative of a mass air flow rate, an air temperature and an air pressure of an air cleaner assembly including an air filter, determining an air filter life remaining from the sensor data, and receiving data indicative of a vehicle condition. The method also includes determining when a first condition is satisfied and when true, triggering an air filter leakage alert. When the first condition is not satisfied, the controller determines when a second condition is satisfied. When the second condition is satisfied, the controller determines when a third condition is satisfied, and when the third condition is satisfied, triggers an air filter snow intrusion alert. When the second condition is satisfied and the third condition is not satisfied the controller triggers an air filter blockage alert.

Systems and methods for engine air filter system diagnostics

Methods and systems are provided for monitoring an air filter. In one embodiment, a method includes: receiving data indicating a vehicle condition; selectively computing a use life of the air filter based on pressure data and the received data; and selectively generating at least one of a notification signal and a notification message based on the use life.

Methods and systems for determining and reporting a remaining useful life of an air filter

In accordance with exemplary embodiments, a variable air intake system and method is provided for a vehicle. The system comprises an engine a controller coupled to the engine. The controller also couples to and controls an air intake system including a first air inlet port and a second air inlet port having a valve operable to move between a closed position and an open position responsive to the controller to provide air to the engine via a filter. A sensor is disposed between the filter and the engine to communicate with the controller for controlling the valve. The method comprises determining engine speed and air flow for an engine of a vehicle and comparing via the engine speed and air flow to a respective high threshold and low threshold. A valve within a second (controlled) air inlet port is opened when the engine speed and air flow each exceed the respective high threshold and closed when the engine speed and air flow each are below the respective low threshold.

Vehicle with variable air intake system

An air induction system consisting of a cylindrical main flow tube, a helical vane disposed within the main flow tube, and, preferably, a noise absorbing perforated tube disposed within the main flow tube in concentric relation to the helical vane. The twist direction of the helical vane provides air flow rotation in the same direction of rotation as the turbine wheel. The helical vane causes noise reflection and enhancement of noise attenuation by the perorated tube and its adjoining one or more acoustic cavities.

The method also includes reporting the result to a user.

Methods for determining a remaining useful life of an air filter

A filter assembly includes a housing including a first member and a second member, and supporting therein a filter. The second member is at least partially disposed within an interior of said first member, with said first member vertically moveable relative to said second member in response to an impact load. At least one latch mechanism removeably couples the first member to the second member. The latch mechanism includes a damper that is biased against a vertical wall of the housing. The damper is compressible in a horizontal direction in response to the vertical movement of the first member relative to the second member.

Air filter assembly

The invention concerns a flow turning vane assembly for use in a duct bend portion of a clean air duct of an air induction system for a vehicle engine. The flow turning vane assembly may have a vane support housing, and a hydrocarbon adsorbent vane mounted to the vane support housing. The hydrocarbon adsorbent vane has a curved shape complimentary to the duct bend portion and includes a hydrocarbon adsorbent layer.

An air induction system wherein the outlet air assembly includes a sleeve-lined convolute duct. A sleeve liner is disposed within a convolute duct which spans the convolutes, wherein an attached end of the sleeve liner is attached to a non-convolute portion of the convolute duct, wherein a free end is freely slidable in the convolute duct, and wherein the free end of the sleeve liner and the attached end of the sleeve liner each serve as a sealing cuff whereby air flow is laminar therethrough irrespective of the convolutes.
