The assemblies of the invention can comprise a fine fiber layer having dispersed within the fine fiber layer an active particulate material. Fluid that flows through the assemblies of the invention can have any material dispersed or dissolved in the fluid react with, be absorbed by, or adsorbed onto, the active particulate within the nanofiber layer. The structures of the invention can act simply as reactive, absorptive, or adsorptive layers with no filtration properties, or the structures of the invention can be assembled into filters that can filter particulate from a mobile fluid while simultaneously reacting, absorbing, or adsorbing materials from the mobile fluid.

An adsorbent article having a base body or matrix onto which is applied an adsorptive coating. The body or matrix can be a honeycomb matrix or structure having a plurality of cells defining a plurality of passages extending through the body. The adsorptive coating comprises an adsorptive media, such as activated carbon or ion exchange resin, that is bound by a polymeric adhesive or resin. The adsorbent article has a minimal pressure loss therethrough.

Adsorption element and methods

A duct for passage of air therethough; one particular use for the duct is as a passage for intake air for a vehicle engine. The duct has an interior, adsorptive region that is adapted to remove contaminants from the air stream passing therethrough. The adsorptive region includes adsorptive material such as carbon (usually activated carbon), activated alumina, zeolites, metal oxides or ion exchange resin. The duct inhibits diffusion of uncombusted gasoline back through the duct from the engine, after the engine has been shut off.
