Electrical connectors of the present invention include alignment guides that provide rough connector alignment, vary an electrical contact mating wipe distance, and provide partial separation between two mating electrical connectors. The alignment guides can be, for example, electrically insulative posts that are received in silos formed in the housings of the electrical connectors.

Modular telephone jack

Inserts for use in fabricating modular jack connectors. The inserts include conductors having a rectangular cross section. A first insert includes a plurality of groups of conductive leads that extend across a top wall in first and second common planes toward a front end. A first group of leads form a terminal edge by extending toward the rear end of the first insert in a first common oblique plane. A second group extends angularly toward the front end from the second common plane in a second common oblique plane to form a second terminal edge which extends beyond the first terminal edge. A third group may be provided that extend across portions of the top wall in both the first and second common planes. The first and second oblique planes intersect to form a first contact area. A second insert includes a plurality of groups of conductive leads that extend across a top wall in third and fourth common planes. A third group forms a terminal edge by extending toward the rear end of the second insert in a third common oblique plane. A fourth group extends angularly from the fourth common plane toward the front end in a fourth common oblique plane to form a fourth terminal edge which extends beyond the third terminal edge. The third and fourth oblique planes intersect to form a second contact area.

Electrical connector for reducing electrical crosstalk and common mode electromagnetic interference

An assembly which includes a jack having an insulative housing with first and second longitudinal walls positioned such that said second longitudinal wall is positioned over said first longitudinal wall in spaced parallel relation. At least one lateral wall is interposed between said first and second longitudinal wall. The jack is positioned such that the PCB is interposed between said first and second longitudinal wall. The first planar surface of the PCB faces the first longitudinal wall to form a first section of the jack, and the second planar surface of the PCB faces the second longitudinal wall to form a second section of the jack. Conductive terminals extend from the jack in said second section. An LED is located in the first section of the jack so that it does not interfere with signals passing through the conductive terminals.

Assembly containing a modular jack and a light emitting diode

The present invention is a modular jack assembly which includes an outer insulative housing having top and bottom walls and opposed lateral walls while defining an interior section. This housing also has front and rear open ends. This assembly also includes an insulative insert having a top section, an upper side and rear section having a base side and a recess. This jack is positioned so that the upper side of its top section is adjacent to top side of the insulative housing such that its terminal end extends into the interior section of the insulative housing and the rear section at least partially covers the rear open end of the insulative housing. This assembly also includes an electronic component mounted in the rear section of the insulative insert. A conductor is mounted in the electrical insert.

Modular jack with filter insert

A modular jack assembly which includes an insulative housing with a first longitudinal wall, a second longitudinal wall superimposed over the first longitudinal wall in spaced parallel relation. A third longitudinal wall is superimposed over the second longitudinal wall in spaced parallel relation. There is a first pair of spaced transverse walls interposed between the first and second longitudinal wall to form a first plug receiving port. There is also a second pair of spaced transverse walls interposed between the second and third longitudinal wall to form a second plug receiving port. The first plug receiving port is longitudinally displaced from said second plug receiving port. A first insulative insert having base and upper sides and rear end terminal ends is positioned so that its terminal end extends into the first plug receiving port. A second insulative insert having base and upper sides and rear and terminal ends is positioned so that its terminal end extends into the second plug receiving port.

The present invention is a modular jack assembly which includes an outer insulative housing having top and bottom walls and opposed lateral walls while defining an interior section. This housing also has front and rear open ends. This assembly also includes an insulative insert having a top section, an upper side and a rear section having a base side and a recess. This jack is positioned so that the upper side of its top section is adjacent to top side of the insulative housing such that its terminal end extends into the interior section of the insulative housing and the rear section at least partially covers the rear open end of the insulative housing. This assembly also includes an electronic component mounted in the recess in the rear section of the insulative insert. A conductor is mounted in the electrical insert.

An assembly comprising a printed circuit board (PCB) having opposed first and second planar surfaces; a light emitting diode (LED) fixed to said PCB; a jack fixed to one of said planar surfaces of the PCB and comprising an insulative housing comprising first and second longitudinal walls positioned such that said second longitudinal wall is positioned over said first and second longitudinal wall in spaced parallel relation and at least one pair of lateral walls is interposed between the first and second longitudinal walls to form at least one traverse plug receiving cavity extending from a substantially open front side of said jack to a rear side of said jack; and a lens positioned adjacent the front side of the jack which conveys or diffracts light from the LED. Relatively little interference with signals provided to the connector results from an LED mounted in this way.
