A process for reorienting the plies within a multi-ply web includes the steps of: providing at least two plies, each ply having a first and a second opposing surface; combining the at least two plies together to form a multi-ply web; treating either the first or the second opposing surface of at least one ply of the multi-ply web forming a treated multi-ply web; winding the treated multi-ply web into a roll; unwinding the roll; and changing the orientation of the treated surface within the multi-ply web as the roll is unwound.

Method for changing the orientation of the plies within a multi-ply product

A method is disclosed for topical application of compositions containing a chemical additive onto a paper web. The present invention is also directed to paper products formed from the method. In general, the method includes the steps of extruding a composition containing a chemical additive through a melt blown die and then applying the composition to a moving paper web. In one embodiment, the chemical composition is extruded into fibers and applied to the paper web. The chemical composition can contain, for instance, various additives, such as a polysiloxane softener.

Method for the application of viscous compositions to the surface of a paper web and products made therefrom

A soft uncreped throughdried tissue product includes a distribution of surface deposits of an additive composition adapted to reduce skin irritation and redness or otherwise deliver a benefit to the user. An array of primary delivery zones with a relatively high additive add-on amount in combination with supplementary delivery zones with a relatively lower add-on amount effectively maximize consumer benefit while minimizing the total amount of additive on the tissue.

Uncreped throughdried tissue with controlled coverage additive

A soft tissue product includes deposits of a surface additive composition disposed in primary and supplementary delivery zones having different add-on levels. The supplementary add-on level is greater than 0 and less than the primary add-on level. For example, the supplementary add-on level may be from about 0.5 to about 80 percent of the primary add-on level. In particular embodiments, the primary delivery zones cover from about 30 to about 90 percent of the tissue and the supplementary delivery zones cover from about 10 to about 70 percent of the tissue. The different add-on levels effectively maximize consumer benefit while minimizing the total amount of additive on the tissue.

Controlled coverage additive application

A method and apparatus for enveloping a series of absorbent cores with a fluid-permeable layer includes a first web supplying mechanism for providing a first layer of fluid-permeable material, and a depositing mechanism for positioning a series of absorbent cores on the first layer. Each of the absorbent cores defines a periphery thereof and includes superabsorbent material therein. A second web supplying means provides a second layer of fluid-permeable material to sandwich the absorbent cores between the first and second layers. A sealing mechanism secures the first layer to the second layer along an attachment region thereof which is located adjacent to at least a pair of side edge regions of the absorbent cores. The attachment region is constructed to substantially prevent movement of superabsorbent material from the absorbent cores through the attachment region. A separating mechanism removes selected regions of the first and second layers which are located adjacent to the attachment region and are spaced from the absorbent cores.

Method and apparatus for sealing absorbent materials in an absorbent

A soft tissue product is disclosed having uniformly distributed surface deposits of a solidified composition having a melting point of from about 30.degree. C. to about 70.degree. C. The solidified composition is applied to the outer surfaces of the tissue product in melted form, preferably by rotogravure printing. The solidified composition contains an oil, a wax, and preferably a fatty alcohol.

A soft uncreped throughdried tissue product is disclosed having uniformly distributed surface deposits of a chemical composition which imparts a benefit to the user, such as a reduction in skin irritation during use. Particularly suitable compositions are those which have a melting point of from about 30.degree. C. to about 70.degree. C. and which are applied to the outer surfaces of the tissue product in melted form, preferably by rotogravure printing. A suitable composition contains an oil, a wax, and preferably a fatty alcohol.

Printing of a surface of a tissue web, such as used for facial and bath tissue, with a colorant in a pattern of small colored areas. From about 5 to about 25 percent of the surface is covered by the small colored areas, so that the surface macroscopically appears to be a solid color.

A fabric softener composition, which can pass through the wash cycle of a clothes washer, comprises a fabric softener, polystyrene, a plasticizer, and a long chain alcohol. The fabric softener composition is particularly suitable in combination with a web substrate, preferably a web substrate containing liquid laundry detergent to provide a single product for washing and softening clothes.
