An extender (10) comprises a first, male section (12) and a second, female section (14) adapted to be back-to-back assembled. A pair of latches devices (39, 52) are provided on both opposite ends of the male section (12) and female section (14) for fastening the male section (12) and the female section (14) together. A plurality of first passageways (32) are formed in the male section (12) and a corresponding number of second passageways (58) are formed in the female section (14) wherein each of the first passageways (32) cooperates with the aligned corresponding second passageway (58) to form a contact receiving passage for receiving a corresponding contact (80) therein. A pair of grounding tangs (70) are disposed at two opposite ends of the extender (10) wherein each grounding tang (70) comprises an outward facing first portion (72) positioned in the male section (12), and an inward facing second portion (74) positioned in the female section (14). Therefore, the female section (14) of the extender (10) can be coupled to the male connector mounted on the hard drive and the male section (12) of the extender (10) can be coupled to the female connector mounted on the backplane for cooperatively electrically connecting the hard drive to the backplane.

Extender for use with computer internal structure

A card edge socket connector (1) includes an insulative elongated housing (10) having a plurality of contact slots (14) side by side vertically extending therethrough. A plurality of contacts (90) are received within the corresponding contact slots (14), respectively. A central board slot (12) extends in the housing (10) in the lengthwise direction for reception of the bottom edge portion of daughter board (100) inserted therein whereby the contacts (90) are electrically engaged with the traces on the bottom edge portion of the daughter board (100). An ejector (50) is pivotally positioned in a cavity (30) at one end of the housing (10) and a pair of separate latches (70) are positioned adjacent such ejector (50) but segregative and spaced therefrom by substantially a portion of the insulative housing (10) for latchably sandwiching and engaging within a retaining (92) hole of the daughter board (100) when the daughter board (100) is received in the board slot (12) in the connector housing (10). Such ejector (50) has a hook section (54) for pushing the bottom edge portion of the daughter board (100) upwardly and releasing the daughter board (100) from the connector (1), accordingly. The housing (10) of the connector (1) itself has a closed type opening on the top in the lengthwise direction which efficiently aligns and orients the daughter board (100) in the lengthwise direction for avoiding any misalignment of the daughter board (100) during the insertion process.

Dual readout socket connector

An electrical connector (10) includes an insulative housing (12) with a plurality of contacts. Adjacent either end of the housing (12) a boardlock (20) and a post (40) are arranged to be aligned with each other in a front-to-end direction. The boardlock (20) generally includes a first vertical section (22) for engagement with the corresponding grounding tang of a complementary connector, and a second vertical section (24) with the downward extending retention legs (25) for extending through a first corresponding hole (102) in the PC board (100), and an upward guiding tab (26). The post (40) includes a horizontal section (42) for retaining the post (40) within the housing (12), and a vertical lug section (46) for extending through a second corresponding hole (104) in the PC board (100).

Boardlock and aligned post of horizontal connector

A connector (10) includes a housing (12) defining a plurality of passageways (16) for receiving a corresponding number of contacts therein. The housing (12) further includes three projection bars (20) extending rearward from a rear surface (18) of the housing (12) for protectively accommodating the corresponding plural contact tails therebetween. A mounting device (22) includes a pair of individual mounting ears (24, 24') which are relatively closely side by side positioned within two juxtaposed slots (38, 38') of the housing (12) wherein each mounting ear (24, 24') has a retention section (28, 28') interferentially embedded within a retention slit (44, 44') for fastening the mounting ear (24, 24') to the housing (12), and an L-shaped mounting section (32, 32') closely beside one side surface (36, 36') of the bar (20). These two mounting ears (24, 24') are compactly and closely arranged to be side by side positioned with each other and also spaced away from each other by a thin divider wall (42) of the housing (12). These two mounting ears (24, 24') are of a pair of mirror images with each other so that the two L-shaped mounting sections (32, 32') of the two mounting ears (24, 24') can respectively abut against two opposite side wall surface (36, 36') of each bar (20).

An IDC type terminator (10) includes a housing (12) having a plurality of passageways (18) extending therethrough in the vertical direction. A plurality of contacts (20) are respectively received within the corresponding passageways (18). The upper and lower portions of the contacts (20) respectively and oppositely extending out of the housing (12) wherein the upper portions engage the PC board (15) which vertically stands on the housing (12), and the lower portions engage the corresponding flat cable (34) which is sandwiched between a bottom cover (16) and the housing (12). Opposite to the bottom cover (16), a top cover (14) is attached to the housing (12) for shielding the PC board (15) therein. A pair of cavities (22) are positioned on two opposite ends of the housing (12) so that the latches (58, 64) of the top cover (12) and of the bottom cover (14) may commonly but oppositely side by side occupy the corresponding cavity (22). Therefore, the latch (58) of the bottom cover (16) can be hooked against the inner shoulder (52) of the housing (12), and the latch (64) of the top cover (14) can be hooked against the bottom surface (42) of the housing (12) wherein once the top cover (14) and the bottom cover (16) have been completely and actually reach their fixed positions regard to the housing (12), the latches (58, 64) of the top cover (14) and of the bottom cover (16) can not be released from their locking positions so that the housing (12), the top cover (14) and the bottom cover (16) are reliably assembled together as one piece without risk of dissembling.

Terminator

A shorting block (10) includes a main body (12) defining a plurality of passageways (14) therein. A conductive strip (22) including a plurality of downward extending tangs (24) adapted to be received within the corresponding passageways (14), respectively, is attached to the main body (12) from the top. A cover (28) including a pair of locking tabs (30) positioned at two opposite ends, is fastened to the main housing (12) and has the conductive strip (22) sandwiched therebetween. An offset area (36) is formed on the top surface (26) of the main body (12) for snugly receiving the conductive strip (22) therein. Each of some passageways (14) further includes a guidable alignment post (15) for aligning and pre-loading the inserted tang (24) therewith.

Device for short-circuiting for use with connector

An interconnection system includes a hard disc drive (24) having a standard header connector (101, 30) that can be electrically connected to one type of computer housing connector (102) by use of a flat cable (104) or, alternatively, can be attached to an adapter (26) to enable the hard disc drive to be slidably inserted into a cavity (14) of a more advanced type of computer to be electrically connected to another type of computer housing connector (16), i.e., a card edge connector. The adapter (26) includes a housing (52) defining a number of passageways (58) receiving a receiving portion of a number of contacts (60) which are connected with contacts of the header connector (30) in which a portion of the housing (52) is exposed to an exterior with regard to the header connector, and a blade (54) receiving a tail portion (68) of the contacts (60) for connection with contacts of the connector (16). When the hard disc drive (24) is slidably inserted into the cavity (14) to be electrically connected to the connector (16), the hard disc drive (24) will be stopped by standoffs (15) at a position in which the distance between the card edge connector (16) and the header connector (30) is substantially the same as the exposed portion of the housing (52) of the adapter (26).

System for use with detachable hard disk drive

A socket (10) for retainably receiving a module (11) therein, includes an insulative housing (12) having a plurality of passageways (16) extending therethrough in a front-to-end direction for receiving a corresponding number of contacts (18) therein for engagement with the corresponding circuit pads on the module. A latch device (26) is positioned at either end of the housing (12) wherein each latch device (26) includes a plastic member (28) integral with housing (12) and an attachable separate metal member (30) wherein the plastic member (28) comprises a resilient main body (48) with an upward extending post (50) proximate the distal end having an expansion head (52) on the tip, and the metal member (30) comprises a resilient main body (54) with a mounting section (58) and a clamping section (60) opposite to the mounting section (58), and an operation section (70) integrally extending from the clamping section (60), whereby by laterally pressing the operation section (70), the plastic member (28) can be actuated to be outward deflected by the outward moving clamping section (60) so that the module (11) can be disengaged from the locking expansion head (52) of the plastic member (28).

Connector with hybrid latch device

A connector assembly (10) includes a lower housing (14) and an upper housing (12) each generally including the basic structure of the typical SO DIMM connector housing (16, 16'). Each housing (14, 12) defines two rows of passageways (20, 20') on two sides of the central slot (18, 18') in which the corresponding module (100) is received. A plurality of contacts (40, 42, 50, 52) are received within the corresponding passageways (20, 20') wherein the tail of each contact (40, 42, 50, 52) extends downward to engage the corresponding circuit on the PC board (100) on which the connector assembly (10) is mounted. The upper housing (12) includes a standoff portion (30) thereabouts wherein the standoff's thickness is generally equal to the thickness of the lower housing (14) so that the upper housing (12) defines a space (32) thereunder to have the lower housing (14) positioned therein under the condition that the upper housing (12) and lower housing (14) are substantially offset with each other in the front-to-end direction.

Duplex profile connector assembly

A card edge connector (10) includes an insulative housing (12) defining a central slot (14) for receiving a card (100) therein. A cavity section (18) is provided at one end of the housing (12) with an alignment end wall (40) for aligning the inserted card (100) in a lengthwise direction. An ejector (20) is rotatably received within the cavity section (18) by means of a spindle (32), a center of which is relatively closer to an inner surface (42) of the ejector (20), wherein the inner surface (42) of the ejector (20) includes at least a first plane-like section (44) generally coplanar with the outer surface (45) of the end wall (40), a second arc-like section (46) generally conformable with the periphery of the spindle (32), and a third plane-like section (48) spaced from the outer surface (25) of the end wall (40) in a substantial distance, when such ejector (20) is in a vertical locked position with regard to the housing (12).

A card edge connector (10) includes an insulative housing (12) defining an elongated channel (14) for receiving a card therein. A pair of tower sections (22) are portioned on two opposite ends of the housing (12), and each defines a cavity for receiving therein an ejector (28) wherein each ejector (28) has a main body (36) with an elongated slots (42) extending along almost the whole lengthwise dimension of the main body (36) except the handle (40), and substantially therethrough in a lateral direction thereof so as to provide a good resiliency of the main body (36). A pair of retention protrusions (32) are respectively positioned on two sides of the main body (36) wherein the retention protrusion generally positioned about the middle point of the slot (42), is large enough to resist wear so that the ejector (28) can be easily rotatably moved with regard to the housing (12) while still keeping good retention function with the housing (12) when it is in a vertical position.

A card edge connector (10) includes an insulative elongated housing (12) having a central slot (14) for receiving the corresponding card (100) and having at least one ejector (20) at its longitudinal end. The ejector (20) comprises a kicker (32) at the bottom for engagement with the bottom edge of the card (100) received within the connector (10). The ejector (20) further includes a locking projection (30) horizontally and inwardly projecting toward the central slot (14) for engagement within a notch (104) of the inserted card (100). A pair of retention bars (22) or restraint devices for limiting lateral movement of the inserted card with regard to housing (12), vertically extend by two sides of the central slot (14) adjacent the ejector (20). The pair of retention bars (22) extend over the locking projection (30) of the ejector (20) in the vertical direction for substantially protectively covering the locking projection (30) in the vertical and/or horizontal direction. Moreover, the action region of the retention bars' (22) against the card (100) is located above the notch (104) thereof and the corresponding locking projection (30). Therefore, the retention effect is more balanced in comparison with that in the parent application, of which the connector has the locking projection engaging the notch of the card above the action region of the retention bars.

Card edge connector with protective hidden locking lug of ejector

A card edge connector (10) includes an elongated housing (12) defining a central slot (14) along its lengthwise direction for receiving a card (100) therein. A plurality of passageways (16) are formed in the housing (12) by two sides of the slot (14). Two cavities (18) are formed at two opposite ends of the housing (12) for receiving a pair of corresponding ejectors (20) therein, respectively. A pair of retention bars (34) are positioned adjacent each end of the housing (12) and respectively on two sides of the slot (14). Each ejector (20) includes a main body (22) which is substantially higher than the adjacent retention bars (34). A pair of stopper blocks (32) are formed on two side surfaces (28) of the main body (22) for engagement with the corresponding retention bars (34), respectively, when the ejector (20) is in the vertical position. A locking peg (36) formed at the top of the main body (22) of the ejector (20), horizontally extends toward the central slot (14) and is substantially positioned over the corresponding retention bars (34).

Connector with ejector

An electrical contact (30) for use with an elongated slanted SIMM socket, includes a base (32), a pair of retention arms (34, 35) respectively positioned at two opposite ends thereof, and a tail (36) extending therefrom for solderably connecting to a PC board on which the socket (80) is mounted. A pair of cantilever type contact beams (36, 38) generally extending from one corner (42) formed by one of the retention arms (34, 35) and the base (32), are composed of a high beam (36) and a low beam (38) wherein a contact apex (46) of the high beam (36) engages the corresponding pad (104) on the upper surface (106) of the module (100), and a contact apex (54) of the low beam (36) engages the corresponding pad (108) on the undersurface (109) of the module (100). The high beam (36) includes at least two segments (40, 44) whereby a substantial component of a displacement of the contact apex (46) of the high beam (36) along the upper surface (106) of the module (100) is arranged in a direction from the lower edge to the upper edge of the module (100).

Contact for slanted SIMM socket

A shorting block (10) for use with a header connector (51), includes an insulative housing (12) having a plurality of cavities (14) therein for receipt of the corresponding pin contacts (64) of the header connector (51). A conductive bar (40) attached to the housing (12), has a plurality of arms (44) extending therefrom and adapted to respectively projecting into the corresponding cavities (14) in the housing (12) for respective mechanical and electrical engagement with the pin contacts (64), of the connector (51), received within the cavities (14) of the housing (12) so that pin contacts (64) of the connector (51) engaging the arms (44) of the conductive bar (40) are designedly electrically connected in a form of closed circuit for compliance with the whole operative circuitry. An optional cover (30) is detachably assembled onto the housing (12) for shielding the conductive bar (40) therein.
