A clamping device () for clamping an elongate article () is disclosed. The clamping device () includes a body () and a clamping arrangement () in the body (). The clamping arrangement () includes a clamping member () and an urging member () for urging the clamping member (B) into clamping engagement with the elongate article (). The body () has a reaction formation () along which the elongate article () can extend. The reaction formation () applies a reaction force to the elongate article () when so engaged by the clamping member (). The clamping device () further includes a carriage () on which the clamping member () is provided, and a release member () on the carriage () for releasing the clamping member () from engagement with the elongate article (). The release member () extends outwardly from the body ().

A capping assembly () for mounting on a covering () is disclosed. The capping assembly () comprises a cap () which can be disposed on the covering (), a securing arrangement () to enable the capping assembly () to be secured on the covering (). The capping assembly () further includes an insertion member () for insertion through the covering (). The cap () can be attached to the insertion member (). The securing arrangement () comprises a securing device () and a holding formation () to hold the securing device (), the holding formation () being provided on the insertion member ().

Capping assembly

A securing arrangement () comprises an elongate article () and a securing device (). The securing device () has a body () and first and second clamping members () within the body () for clamping the elongate article (). The clamping members () are disposed in an opposed position relative to one another. The elongate article () comprises a plurality of strands (A-F) wound around one another in a plurality of turns of each strand. Each strand (A-F) has substantially the same pitch as each other strand, and each clamping member () has an engaging surface () for engaging the elongate article (). Each engaging surface () is configured to engage half or more of the total number of strands forming the elongate article ().

A securing device () is mountable on an article, and comprises a guide formation (). A fastening arrangement () is movable relative to the guide formation to fasten the article to the securing device. An urging arrangement () is operable to urge the fastening arrangement relative to the guide formation between fastening and non-fastening positions. The guide formation is arranged to guide the fastening arrangement to the fastening position. An indicator () is movable by the urging arrangement from a non-indicating condition to an indicating condition when the fastening arrangement is moved to the fastening position.

A cap for use on a palletized load has a main mauling providing housings at a pair or two pairs of opposite sides for a cassette in which a strap passes through a slotted crossbar between a drum and a hook having two prongs for engaging the underside of the platform of a pallet (e.g. at each side of a middle spacer), the strap then being tensioned by a linkage between the slotted crossbar and a lever within a slot for swinging between an inoperative position and an operative position (e.g. up to 90&#xb0; thereto) to rotate the crossbar to wind the strap thereon.
