Methods and systems of the invention provide a variety of techniques for processing microtransactions. In accordance with the invention, the method starts with a customer initiating a purchase through interaction with a merchant. The purchase is associated with purchase information, which includes the particulars of the purchase, such as the purchase price. In the purchase, the customer uses a transaction account, obtained from a payment enabler. The purchase is classified as a microtransaction, if the purchase price is below a predetermined monetary amount. Thereafter, the purchase information is forwarded for processing based on the classifying, i.e., either as a regular transaction or as a microtransaction. Then, upon receipt of the purchase information by an appropriate recipient, such as an interchange entity or an alternate interchange entity, the purchase information is processed to effect the microtransaction, if so classified, between the customer and the merchant.

System and method for processing microtransactions

The invention provides a system and method for using transaction data to provide information to a customer, the information being provided in response to a request from the customer so as to assist the customer in decisioning. The method may comprising inputting transaction data regarding a plurality of transactions effected at a plurality of merchants; inputting a request for information from a requesting customer, the request including parameters related to the request; performing processing based on both the transaction data and the request for information, the processing including generating a response to the request; and outputting the response to the requesting customer. The request and processing may relate to identifying activities of similarly situated persons vis-&#xe0;-vis the requesting customer, based on the transaction data. The request may relate to identifying an optimum merchant to secure purchase of a target item. Further, the request may relate to determining an optimum sequence in which to perform a plurality of desired activities. Various other features are described.

Systems and methods for use of transaction data for customers

A system and method that keeps check of financial transactions by maintaining distinct records for a plurality of devices associated with a financial account, in conjunction with performing authentication further to inputting transaction data from a point of sale, the system comprising a communication portion that inputs transaction data received from the point of sale, the transaction data including an account number and one of a CVV number and an expiration date; a device identification portion that identifies a particular device, from which the transaction originated, out of the plurality of devices based on the account number and one of the CVV number and the expiration date; and an authentication portion that performs authentication processing based on a comparison process that utilizes the transaction data, the authentication portion generating an authentication result, and the authentication portion outputting the authentication result. Other transaction data may be used in lieu of the one of a CVV number and an expiration date.

Data is input to the financial network in addition to the transaction data and the account identification data that in read from the card. This addition data permits the proper account to be accessed. The data may be input at the point of sale as an account selection. In this instance, the selection may be used to route the transaction data through the financial processing network or may be used to read data regarding one of multiple accounts encoded on the card. The data may also be stored as conditional routing rules at transfer points in the financial processing network. In this instance, the transaction is routed to the proper account based on the stored rules.

Multiple account advanced payment card and method of routing card transactions

A system and method for creating a stored value account based on a purchase transaction are provided. An indicia of an identifier to be distributed to a customer at a point of sale as a result of a purchase is passed. A request to activate a stored value account associated with the identifier is received from the customer, wherein the request comprises the identifier. The stored value account is activated by a computer processor. The stored value account comprises information about a rebate value that is associated with the purchase and usable by the customer.

The system may include a communication portion that inputs transaction data received from the data bearing record, the transaction data including an input transaction count value and an input device differentiator number; and a processing portion that processes the transaction data. The processing portion may include (1) a memory portion that stores stored data; (2) a device identification portion that identifies the device based on the device differentiator number and an account number, the account number being derived from the transaction data; (3) a register portion that maintains a count of financial transactions so as to provide a current transaction count value associated with the input device differentiator number for the account number, the register portion maintaining current transaction count values for respective device differentiator numbers, which device differentiator numbers are associated with the account number; and (4) an authentication portion that performs authentication processing based on a comparison process that utilizes the current transaction count value and the input transaction count value, the authentication portion generating an authentication result, the authentication portion outputting the authentication result.
