A hydraulic park system includes a spool valve linked to a park mechanism. In some circumstances, a hold-out-of-park mechanism is utilized to hold the spool in position. To avoid wear on the aluminum spool, a steel saddle is inserted onto the spool between two lands such that the hold-out-of-park mechanism engages the steel saddle. The steel saddle is inserted from the side of the spool. To ensure that the hold-out-of-park engages the correct side of the saddle, the saddle must be held in a predefined circumferential position about the bore axis. The saddle is constrained from rotation about the spool axis by abutting flat surfaces on the spool and the saddle. The spool is constrained from rotation relative to the bore by the park mechanism.

A jet pump that supplies fluid to a transmission pump includes a pump inlet, a sump, a fluid source, and a nozzle including an axial passage for carrying fluid from the sump toward the inlet, and a second passage having an arcuate periphery and including an entrance facing a lateral side of the nozzle and connected to the fluid source and an exit communicating with the pump inlet.

A pump assembly includes a pump housing including an inner surface, a pump inlet and an excess flow passage, a filter assembly including a spout extending into the housing, and an insert located within and secured to the housing, and including a first surface spaced from the inner surface and producing therebetween an annular nozzle communicating with said excess flow passage, the nozzle directing a first fluid stream exiting the excess flow passage toward a second fluid stream exiting the spout, the fluid streams flowing toward the pump inlet.

The present disclosure relates to a vehicle transmission with jet pump. The jet pump includes a hydraulic control system that has a nozzle fitted between a first and second housing. The nozzle is separable from the first and second housing. The hydraulic control system is configured to produce a jet stream of fluid through a center section of the nozzle.

A dual mode one-way torque transmitting device includes an inner race having a first plurality of notches spaced about an axis. An intermediate race includes a second plurality of notches spaced about the axis, a first plurality of pockets spaced about the axis, and a first plurality of rockers, each rocker being located in a pocket of the intermediate race. A spring urges each rocker toward engagement with a notch on the inner race. An outer race includes a second plurality of pockets spaced about the axis, a second plurality of rockers, each rocker being located in a pocket on the outer race, and a plurality of actuators, each actuator alternately engages and disengages a rocker on the outer race and a notch on the intermediate race.

The automatic transmission for motor vehicles includes a positive displacement pump, a sump hydraulically connected by a passage to the pump inlet, a line pressure control valve having a high pressure outlet, a passage carrying fluid from the control valve through a nozzle and an nozzle exit opening to the passage that connects the sump to the pump inlet. The high pressure passage has a cross section whose area decreases in the direction toward the pump inlet and terminates in a nozzle through which a high speed jet enters the low pressure passage through the nozzle exit opening.

A hydraulic system for controlling the engagement and disengagement of a friction element includes a source of line pressure, a source of exhaust pressure, a manual valve having a forward state and a reverse state, connected to the exhaust pressure source and line pressure source and including a first outlet and a second outlet, for opening and closing communication between said outlets and said pressure sources in response to changes in the states, a friction element communicating with the line pressure source through the manual valve in the reverse state, and a control valve including a port communicating with the friction element, the control valve producing control pressure at the port when the manual valve is in the forward state.

In a hydraulic system for controlling the rate at which fluid flows to an oncoming clutch and for quickly disengaging the clutch, a source of pressurized fluid, a valve hydraulically connected to the fluid source including a spool for alternately opening and closing communication through the valve between the fluid source and the clutch, a seat located between the valve and the clutch, and a plate moveable by fluid flow in a first direction into contact with the seat and moveable by fluid flow in a second direction away from the seat, the plate having an orifice through which fluid enters the clutch when the plate contacts the seat, and openings through which fluid from the clutch passes when the plate is away from the seat. A tube, located between the plate and the clutch, includes a head adjacent the plate and is formed with the seat, and a shank having a passage hydraulically communicating with the clutch, the orifice being aligned with the passage when the plate contacts the seat.

In a hydraulic system for an automatic transmission, a method for automatically draining fluid from an oil cooler and related hydraulic lines when power is off to prevent fluid leakage, escape and outflow when they are disconnected from the system. A control system includes a source of relatively high pressure when power is on, an oil cooler, fluid circuit lines for supplying transmission oil to the cooler, a source of low pressure for containing fluid, such as an oil sump, and a valve hydraulically connected to the circuit, high pressure source, and low pressure source, the valve having a first state at which a hydraulic connection through the valve between the circuit and the source of low pressure is closed when power is on, and a second state at which a hydraulic connection through the valve between the circuit and the low pressure source is open when power is off.

A cooler bypass valve, located in a hydraulic circuit between the discharge side of a torque converter and lubrication circuit, includes a valve spool urged by feedback pressure acting in opposition to the force of a compression spring to a bypass cooling mode position where the converter discharge fluid flow is connected to the lubrication circuit bypassing the oil cooler. The bypass valve includes a viscosity-sensitive pressure divider, which includes a series arrangement of a laminar orifice and a sharp-edged orifice located between the converter discharge and an oil sump. As oil temperature increases, flow through the laminar orifice produces a control pressure in opposition to the feedback pressure and additive to a spring force, which combine to move the valve spool to a cooling mode position where substantially all of the converter discharge is directed through the oil cooler. In a predetermined temperature range, the valve maintains a position where a portion of the converter discharge is directed to the oil cooler, and the residual to the lubrication circuit.
