A funds-transfer system enables a buyer to transfer funds to a seller via a mobile telephone. The system receives a payment request transmitted from a mobile telephone of the buyer. The payment request is for a transfer of funds from a financial account held by the buyer to a financial account held by the seller, and the payment request is transmitted from a payment application stored in the buyer's mobile telephone. The payment request identifies a purchase amount to be transferred, and information identifying the financial account held by the buyer. The system charges the purchase amount to the financial account held by the buyer and transfers the purchase amount to a financial account held by the seller.

Mobile telephone transfer of funds

A method and a system are provided for preventing unauthorized access to financial accounts. A financial services system creates and stores a global external number corresponding to a funding account number that is associated with a financial account. A vendor system requests the corresponding global external number from the financial services system, which returns the corresponding global external number. The vendor system stores the global external number with customer identification information and/or transaction records. The vendor system requests payments for transactions by supplying the global external number stored in a transaction record to the financial services system. The financial services system authenticates the vendor system, and returns the corresponding funding account number. The vendor system generates a transaction settlement request using the funding account number. If the vendor system is compromised, no financial accounts can be accessed, since the vendor system does not store funding account numbers.

Entry is permitted onto a transit system by recognition of information included in an identification number stored on a financial transaction instrument. A plurality of transit system fees associated with the same identification number from use of the financial transaction instrument is aggregated, and payment for the aggregated transit system fees is requested from a transaction account associated with the financial transaction instrument.

A random number generating algorithm is seeded with an unpredictable number. The seed value is computed by subjecting variable data to a Secure Hashing Algorithm, and truncating the right most, or left most, 16 bytes from the message digest generated. The algorithm generates the unpredictable number by using the seed value as a counter value in the random number generator, and performing a data encryption standard operation. In one exemplary embodiment, the unpredictable number is modified to a predetermined maximum unpredictable number value as determined by the sender and receiver of the unpredictable number.

A system and method are disclosed for conducting electronic commerce such as a virtual purchase transaction with an on-line merchant. A user is provided with an intelligent token, such as a smart card containing a digital certificate. The intelligent token suitably authenticates with a wallet server on a network that conducts all or portions of the transaction on behalf of the user with out requiring changes to the merchant's server. The wallet server interacts with a security server of a selected financial service to provide authentication of the transaction. Upon authentication, the digital wallet pre-fills forms which are transmitted to the merchant who contacts the security server for validation of the forms and upon validation, completes the transaction with the user.
