A process for the removal of hydrogenatable hydrocarbonaceous compounds comprising a component selected from the group consisting of halogen, metal, sulfur, oxygen and nitrogen from a hydrocarbonaceous stream which comprises the steps of: (a) contacting the hydrocarbonaceous stream with an adsorbent to remove at least a portion of the hydrogenatable hydrocarbonaceous compounds from the hydrocarbonaceous stream to provide a hydrocarbonaceous stream having a reduced concentration of hydrogenatable hydrocarbonaceous compounds; (b) contacting spent adsorbent with an elution solvent to remove the hydrogenatable hydrocarbonaceous compounds from the spent adsorbent thereby regenerating the adsorbent; (c) contacting the elution solvent in admixture with the hydrogenatable hydrocarbonaceous compounds in the presence of hydrogen with a hydrogenation catalyst; (d) contacting the effluent with an aqueous scrubbing solution; (e) introducing a resulting admixture of the reaction zone effluent and the aqueous scrubbing solution into a separation zone to provide a hydrotreated elution solvent and a spent aqueous stream; and (f) recycling at least a portion of the hydrotreated elution solvent from step (e) to provide at least a portion of the elution solvent utilized in step (b).

Process for the removal of hydrogenatable hydrocarbonaceous compounds

A process for hydrogenating a hydrocarbonaceous charge stock containing nitrogen, sulfur or halogen-based impurities which process comprises the steps of: (a) contacting the hydrocarbonaceous charge stock in the presence of hydrogen with a hydrogenation catalyst in a hydrogenation reaction zone to simultaneously increase the hydrogen content of the hydrocarbonaceous charge stock and to generate at least one water-soluble inorganic compound produced from the reaction of said nitrogen, sulfur or halogen-based impurities in said hydrocarbonaceous charge stock and the hydrogen; (b) contacting the reaction zone effluent containing hydrogenated hydrocarbonaceous compounds and at least one said water-soluble inorganic compound with a fresh aqueous scrubbing solution; (c) introducing a resulting admixture of the reaction zone effluent and the aqueous scrubbing solution into a separation zone to provide a hydrogenated hydrocarbonaceous stream and a spent aqueous scrubbing solution stream containing at least a portion of the water-soluble inorganic compound and trace quantities of hydrogenated hydrocarbonaceous compounds; (d) contacting the spent aqueous scrubbing solution stream with an adsorbent to remove the trace quantities of the hydrocarbonaceous compounds from the aqueous scrubbing solution stream thereby providing an aqueous stream essentially free from hydrocarbonaceous compounds; (e) removing the hydrocarbonaceous compounds from spent adsorbent with an elution solvent thereby regenerating the adsorbent; and (f) passing the elution solvent in admixture with hydrocarbonaceous compounds which are removed from the spent adsorbent in step (e) into the hydrogenation reaction zone of step (a) thereby recovering the hydrocarbonaceous compounds.

Process for hydrogenating a hydrocarbonaceous charge stock

A non-catalytic process for the conversion of a hydrocarbonaceous stream containing less than about 5 weight percent halogenated organic compounds which process comprises: (a) reacting the hydrocarbonaceous stream in the presence of hydrogen in a reaction zone at reaction conditions including an elevated temperature selected to convert at least a portion of the halogenated organic compounds to more highly hydrogenated organic compounds; and (b) recovering a hydrocarbonaceous product stream containing lower halogen content.

Non-catalytic process for the conversion of a hydrocarbonaceous stream

A process for the removal of hydrogenatable hydrocarbonaceous compounds from a hydrocarbonaceous stream which comprises the steps of: (a) contacting the hydrocarbonaceous stream with an adsorbent to remove at least a portion of the hydrogenatable hydrocarbonaceous compounds from the hydrocarbonaceous stream to provide a hydrocarbonaceous stream having a reduced concentration of hydrogenatable hydrocarbonaceous compounds; (b) contacting spent adsorbent which has accumulated the hydrogenatable hydrocarbonaceous compounds from the hydrocarbonaceous stream with an elution solvent to remove the hydrogenatable hydrocarbonaceous compounds from the spent adsorbent thereby regenerating the adsorbent; (c) recovering at least a portion of the elution solvent from a resulting admixture of elution solvent and hydrogenatable hydrocarbonaceous compounds recovered from step (b) in an elution solvent recovery zone; (d) contacting the hydrogenatable hydrocarbonaceous compounds which were recovered from step (c) in the presence of hydrogen with a hydrogenation catalyst in a hydrotreating reaction zone; (e) contacting the hydrotreating reaction zone effluent with an aqueous scrubbing solution; (f) introducing a resulting admixture of the reaction zone effluent and the aqueous scrubbing solution into a separation zone to provide a hydrotreated hydrocarbonaceous stream and a spent aqueous stream.

A process for hydrotreating a hydrocarbonaceous charge stock having hydrogenatable hydrocarbonaceous compounds which process comprises the steps of: (a) contacting said hydrocarbonaceous charge stock in the presence of hydrogen with a hydrogenation catalyst in a hydrotreating reaction zone; (b) contacting said hydrotreating reaction zone effluent with an aqueous scrubbing solution; (c) introducing a resulting admixture of said reaction zone effluent and said aqueous scrubbing solution into a separation zone to provide a hydrotreated hydrocarbonaceous stream having trace quantities of hydrogenatable hydrocarbonaceous compounds and a spent aqueous stream; and (d) contacting said hydrotreated hydrocarbonaceous stream with an adsorbent to remove at least a portion of said trace quantities of hydrogenatable hydrocarbonaceous compounds from said hydrotreated hydrocarbonaceous stream.

Process for hydrotreating a hydrocarbonaceous charge stock

A process is disclosed for the fluid catalytic cracking of a hydrocarbon oil which comprises contacting said oil at fluid catalytic cracking conditions with a catalyst consisting of silica, a rare earth metal component and a dealuminated zeolitic aluminosilicate having a SiO.sub.2 /Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 molar ratio of from 4.5 to 35, the essential X-ray powder diffraction pattern of zeolite Y, an ion exchange capacity of not greater than 0.070, a unit cell dimension a.sub.o of from 24.20 to 24.45 A, a surface area of at least 350 m.sup.2 /g (B-E-T), a sorptive capacity for water vapor at 25.degree. C. and a p/p.sub.o value of 0.10 of less than 4.00 weight percent and a Residual Butanol Test value of not more than 0.40 weight percent.

Fluid catalytic cracking hydrocarbon conversion process

A coal liquefaction process comprising reacting coal with a hydrocarbonaceous solvent at coal liquefaction conditions in the presence of an oil shale residue catalyst comprising organic and inorganic fractions. The oil shale residue catalyst is derived by heating an oil shale in the presence of an inert gas with respect to the oil shale at a temperature of 500.degree.-825.degree. F.

A process is provided for the hydrocracking of a hydrocarbon charge stock which comprises reacting the charge stock with hydrogen at hydrocracking conversion conditions in contact with a catalytic composite comprising a combination of a Group VIB metal component, Group VIII metal component, and a fluorine component present in an amount ranging from 1 to 3 wt. %, on an elemental basis, based on the composite, with a silica-thoria carrier material wherein the carrier is cogelled silica-thoria consisting of from about 25% to about 99% by weight silica and from 1% to about 75% by weight thoria. A hydrocracking catalyst is also provided which comprises a combination of a nickel component, a tungsten component, and a fluorine component with a silica-thoria carrier material. The nickel, tungsten, and fluorine components are present in amounts sufficient to result in the composite containing, on an elemental basis, about 0.5 to about 2 wt. % of the nickel component, about 0.5 to about 14 wt. % of the tungsten component, and about 1 to about 3 wt. % of the fluorine component. Another hydrocracking catalyst is provided which comprises a silica-thoria-alumina carrier material wherein the carrier material comprises from about 25 to about 99 wt. % silica, from about 1 to about 75 wt. % thoria, and from about 1 to about 25 wt. % alumina.

A process for the recovery of hydrocarbonaceous oil from oil shale is disclosed. The process comprises: (a) heating the shale in the presence of a gas comprising hydrogen sulfide at subcritical conditions of said gas including a temperature from about 650.degree. F. to about 825.degree. F. to produce a solvent extractable material and to liberate at least a first portion of the hydrocarbon contained therein; and (b) contacting the resulting solvent extractable material with a normally-liquid solvent at subcritical, reflux conditions of said solvent to liberate at least a second portion of the hydrocarbon contained in the solvent extractable material.

Process for the recovery of hydrocarbons from oil shale

A process for the recovery of hydrocarbonaceous oil from oil shale is disclosed. The process comprises: (a) heating the shale in the presence of a non-combustion supporting, non oil-miscible gas at subcritical conditions of said gas and at a temperature from about 650.degree. F. to about 825.degree. F. to produce a solvent extractable material and to liberate at least a first portion of the hydrocarbon contained therein; and (b) contacting the resulting solvent extractable material with a normally-liquid solvent at subcritical, reflux conditions of said solvent to liberate at least a second portion of the hydrocarbon contained in said solvent extractable material.

Process for recovery of hydrocarbons from oil shale

A catalytic composite is disclosed which catalyst comprises a silica-alumina carrier material, a nickel component and a vanadium component, and which catalyst is useful for the conversion of hydrocarbons. A preferred method of preparation comprises the incorporation of the vanadium component from an alcoholic solution of a vanadium compound.

A method for the removal of metal from a hydrocarbon solution containing metal alkaryl sulfonate. Briefly, the method comprises contacting the hydrocarbon solution containing metal alkaryl sulfonate with an aqueous ammonia or an aqueous ammonium salt solution and recovering a hydrocarbon having a reduced metal concentration.

A method of removing metal alkaryl sulfonate from a hydrocarbon solution is disclosed. Briefly, the method comprises contacting the hydrocarbon solution containing metal alkaryl sulfonate with basic anion-exchange resin and recovering a hydrocarbon having a reduced concentration of metal alkaryl sulfonate.

Method for the removal of metal alkaryl sulfonate from hydrocarbons

A process for hydrotreating (hydroprocessing) hydrocarbons and mixtures of hydrocarbons utilizing a catalytic composite comprising a combination of a nickel component, a molybdenum component and a platinum component with a zeolitic carrier material wherein said platinum component is present in an amount sufficient to result in the composite containing, on an elemental basis, about 0.2 to about 0.5 percent by weight platinum, in which process there is effected a chemical consumption of hydrogen. Hydrocarbon hydroprocesses are hydrocracking, the hydrogenation of aromatic nuclei, the ring-opening of cyclic hydrocarbons, desulfurization, denitrification, hydrogenation, etc.
