Provided herein are shaped-charges having curved walls to provide better controllable and improved liquid jet parameters. The shaped-charge comprises a container having a plurality of curved walls for containing a liquid. One or more explosive charges are immersed in the liquid and a detonator channel positioned through the container wall to controllably detonate the one or more explosive charges and from a wedge-shaped liquid jet. Multipoint initiation is achieved using a number of initiation points; a location of one or more initiation contact points with the geometrically-shaped explosive charges; and/or an initiation timing of each of the initiation contact points, including simultaneous initiation or a sequence of initiations. Also provided are related methods of forming liquid jets and attendant applications, including target disruption.

Specially-shaped-charges for focusing fluid jets

A magnetic apparatus for magnetic attachment to a curved ferromagnetic surface. The magnetic apparatus includes a plurality of ferromagnetic plates and a plurality of magnets. Each ferromagnetic plate includes a concave end for mounting on a curved ferromagnetic surface. The ferromagnetic plates and magnets are in an alternating arrangement where each magnet is positioned between a pair of the ferromagnetic plates. The magnets are oriented such that like magnetic poles of the magnets oppose each other. Each magnet is sized so that the magnet does not contact the curved ferromagnetic surface. The magnetic apparatus includes an assembly for joining the ferromagnetic plates and magnets together. Each magnet firmly abuts the pair of the ferromagnetic plates thereby allowing the ferromagnetic plates to become magnetically saturated. The magnetic apparatus includes a load-spreading member attached to all of the ferromagnetic plates for distributing loads among the ferromagnetic plates.

Magnetic apparatus for mounting on curved ferromagnetic surfaces

Exemplary embodiments of apparatus and methods for remotely and explosively cutting the casing of a UXO and separating the fuzing components from the main charge in the UXO. A remote explosive separation tool creates a Linear Explosively Formed Projectile (LEFP) charge to separate fuzing components from live explosive threats in UXO, for example only, a 155 mm artillery round. The tool functions by explosively deforming a copper liner into a linear projectile or penetrator which then impacts the UXO casing. The speed of impact enables the fuzing elements of the UXO to be removed from the main charge of the UXO either by directly cutting the fuze elements off or by imparting the fuze elements with enough momentum such that they break off. The process of dismembering the fuze elements occurs without detonating the main charge of the UXO. The tool may be remotely placed by an unmanned vehicle.

Remote explosive separation tool

A hook assembly includes a first hook having a first open end and a second hook having a second open end. The first hook is parallel to the second hook where the first open end is adjacent to the second open end. Extensions extend from each of the first hook and the second hook. The extensions extend perpendicular to a hook plane of the first hook and the second hook members. The first hook is a mirror image of the second hook. A hinge connects the first hook to the second hook. The hinge is located at an opposite end of the hook from where the extensions are located. A resilient member exerts a constant force at the hinge to bias the first hook and the second hook toward an open position.

Modular unmanned line/tool emplacement (MULE) hook

A cap for an explosive water charge may be fixed to a collapsible water bottle by threading internal threads of the cap onto external threads of the water bottle. The cap also may be fixed to a water bottle by engaging a lip on the water bottle with lip grabbers on the cap. The cap is configured to hold a blasting cap and two different sizes of tubes of energetic material.

Universal cap for explosive water charges

An exemplary axial joint includes a planar member having a first plurality of joined sections and a second plurality of joined sections perpendicular to the first plurality of joined sections. Each section of the first plurality of joined sections and the second plurality of joined sections has a pattern of apertures therein, and each section is foldable approximately perpendicular to an adjacent section. The pattern of apertures in a first section after folding is congruent with the pattern of apertures in a second section after folding, wherein the second section is parallel to the first section, after folding. An elongate member is arranged through the apertures of one or more sections of the planar member, after folding the sections of the planar member.

Special purpose EOD axial repetitive joint

Provided herein are shaped charges for focusing a fluid mass and related methods of using the shaped charges for disruption of an explosive target with a spherical projectile. The shaped charge comprises a plastic shell having a special geometric shape configured to support a shape-conforming explosive. A cylindrical plastic body has an interior volume for containing a fluid and the plastic shell. The plastic body closed distal end has a geometric shape that is substantially matched to the shape of the plastic shell. Metal spherical projectiles having an outer layer of metal selected to have an effective density matched to the fluid provide advantageous target disruption capabilities.

Shaped charges for focusing a fluid mass

A radial cutting cavity container includes a housing that defines a chamber for a shaped explosive charge. The housing is configured to allow a user to pack explosives therein. An airtight cavity is attached to the housing. The airtight cavity defines a standoff distance for the shaped explosive charge and has a concave surface adapted to form an explosive cutting jet. A liner is located between the housing and the airtight cavity. A support stand is attached to the container to allow the container to be mounted on a surface for creating a radial cut normal to the surface.

Provided herein are projectiles for use in a propellant driven disrupter device, and associated methods, to neutralize an explosive target. The projectile may comprise a friction reducing container at least partially filled with one or more fluids, fluid mixtures, particles, and other components to provide one or more desired fluid properties to achieve a desired one or more jet parameters upon target impact. The fluid(s) in the container are referred to as highly efficient energy transfer (HEET) fluids do to the improved fluid jet action on target compared to conventional water projectiles. The projectiles and disruptor can be more precisely individually tailored to the target, thereby increasing the likelihood of successful disablement and decreasing the likelihood of inadvertent and uncontrolled explosion.

Disrupter driven highly efficient energy transfer fluid jets

A disruptor projectile includes a shaft made up of an elongate rod. A head piece assembly is connected to an end of the elongate rod. A post is located inside the head piece assembly. A tether line having an end with an eye splice attached around the post. The length of the tether line extends parallel to the elongate rod.

Below/above-water remote energetic attachment kinetic kill rod(BREAKKR) projectile

A stand for vertically aligning borehole charges on non-level surfaces. The stand has a support base. A ball and socket assembly includes a socket portion connected to the support base and a ball portion disposed in the socket portion. The socket portion includes a grip interface to press against the ball portion. A body is connected to the ball portion. A clamp is attached to the socket portion at an interface of the ball and socket assembly between the socket portion and the ball portion. The body is configured to contain a shaped explosive charge for making a borehole. The ball and socket assembly is substantially hollow. The clamp adjusts compression of the ball and socket assembly.

Multiple angle pivoting placement (MAPP) stand

Explosive devices may be formed from hollow members filled with explosive materials. The hollow members may be made of mating halves that are packed or loaded with explosive material prior to the mating halves being joined together. In some exemplary aspects, the hollow members are placed in fluid-filled containers such that the explosive reaction creates a wave of fluid that impacts a target. Components of the devices may be COTS items and items that may be manufacture with 3D printers.

Apparatus and methods for disrupting/disabling explosive ordnance

An insensitive munition initiation canister includes a first cylindrical body having an external surface, which includes a first set of threads arranged circumferentially around the first cylindrical body, and a second cylindrical body connected to the first cylindrical body including an external surface having a second set of threads arranged circumferentially around the second cylindrical body. The first cylindrical body includes a first internal region set to retain an explosive charge having a detonation capability sufficient to detonate an insensitive munition. The first cylindrical body is set to sit inside a munition fuze well. The threads of the first cylindrical body are set to engage the munition fuze well.

Insensitive munition initiation canister (IMIC)

An apparatus for detonating a munition having a munition casing. The apparatus includes a pyramidal shaped housing with an interior to receive explosive material and a stepped structure defining a plurality of tier sections. The housing includes a bottom portion and an interior space to receive an energetic device. A force-reactive component secured to the bottom portion of the housing confronts the munition casing and includes a force-receiving portion exposed to the housing interior. The force-reactive component impacts the munition casing when a force is exerted upon the force-receiving portion. After the apparatus is positioned on the casing, explosive material is packed into the housing interior and an energetic device disposed within the additional space, the energetic device is detonated and the force-reactive component impacts the munition casing where shock waves permeate the munition casing and detonate the munition.
