A wireless RF data transmission system has at least one base station transmitting control information on a control channel and high speed data on at least one data channel. At least one subscriber station receives the control information and data channels, adjusting a modulation and/or coding of reception of the data in response to the control information. Preferably, the control information is transmitted using a more robust modulation, such as QPSK, than used to transmit the data, which is preferably transmitted using either 16, 64 or 256 QAM. Additionally, timing or header information for the date may be included on the control channel.

The present invention is directed to a system and method which allows a device user who is within a sterile environment to interact remotely with a device physically located outside of the sterile zone. In one embodiment, the remote link is wireless and allows the operator to adjust critical controls without breaking the sterile environment. The remote device is designed to be sheathed in sterile sheaths and further designed, in one embodiment, to keep the remote control element from physically interacting with the patient and in some cases with the device operator. In one embodiment, the remote device operator interacts with the remote device verbally.

Systems and methods are disclosed which allow for mechanically switching the electrical connections to a device to which multiple transducers are permanently physically connected. In one embodiment, two transducers are connected to the device on a semi-permanent basis and contacts within the mechanical switch are moved physically by the user to adjust the electrical connection to the desired active transducer. In the embodiment, the mechanical switch moves the entire electrical contact housing from one transducer to another.

Systems and methods which partition ultrasound signal processing between an ultrasound system main processing unit and transducer assembly are shown. A particular division of signal processing functionality disposed in the main processing unit and the transducer assembly may be selected to provide a desired weight balance, a desired level of processing for data communication between the main processing unit and the transducer assembly, etcetera. An ultrasound imaging system is provided which produces gray scale images of the anatomy simultaneous with Doppler signal processing so as to provide a single real-time image that shows not only the vascular anatomy and surrounding tissue but also flow events in the vascular compartment. A phased linear array having near-continuous focus over the scanning field provides high resolution and very small Doppler sample volumes. The system tests incoming signals from throughout the scanning field for amplitude, phase and frequency so as to determine B-mode data, motion presence and direction, and echo source velocity.
