A method and control module for controlling an engine includes a requested torque module that generates a requested torque and a turbo boost level module that determines a desired boost level based on the driver requested torque. The control module further includes a pulse determination module that determines a primary fuel injection pulsewidth and a secondary fuel injection pulsewidth based on the driver requested torque and the desired boost level and controls a first injection into the cylinder with the primary fuel injection pulsewidth and a second injection into the cylinder with the secondary fuel injection pulsewidth.

Method and system for reducing turbo lag in an engine

A control system includes a speed determination module and a profile estimation module. The speed determination module determines previous engine speeds based on a predetermined profile of a crankshaft position sensor and previous pulse times corresponding to teeth on the crankshaft position sensor. The profile estimation module performs data fitting to determine an estimated profile of the crankshaft position sensor based on the previous pulse times and the previous engine speeds. The speed determination module determines present engine speeds based on the estimated profile and present pulse times corresponding to the teeth on the crankshaft position sensor.

An idle control system for a vehicle comprises an actuator control module, a torque determination module, a deviation analysis module, and an idle speed reduction module. The actuator control module regulates an engine speed based on a desired idle speed when an engine idle mode is enabled. The torque determination module determines actual torques for a cylinder of an engine while the engine idle mode is enabled. The deviation analysis module determines a standard deviation based on more than one of the actual torques while the engine idle mode is enabled. The idle speed reduction module determines an idle speed reduction based on the standard deviation and decreases the desired idle speed based on the idle speed reduction.

A method and control system for controlling the idle speed of an engine includes an engine speed module that generates an engine speed signal. The control system also includes an actuator control module that regulates an engine speed based on a desired idle speed when an engine idle mode is enabled and a balancing module that balances torque produced by cylinders of an engine based on the engine speed signal when the engine idle mode is enabled. The control module also includes an idle speed reduction module that determines an idle speed reduction based on the actual torques produced by the cylinders after the balancing module balances the torque and that decreases the desired idle speed based on the idle speed reduction.

Method and system for enabling cylinder balancing at low idle speed using crankshaft speed sensor

A fuel control system for a vehicle comprises a fuel delivery module, a torque ratio determination module, and a correction factor module. The fuel delivery module supplies first and second amounts of diesel fuel to a cylinder of an engine during first and second combustion cycles for the cylinder, respectively. The second combustion cycle occurs after the first combustion cycle. The torque ratio determination module determines a torque ratio based on torque output by the engine during the first combustion cycle and a torque requested for the first combustion cycle. The correction factor module determines a fuel correction factor based on the torque ratio and adjusts the second amount based on the fuel correction factor.

Fuel correction systems and methods

A fuel control system delivers fuel to an engine cylinder and compensates for lost fuel. The fuel control system comprises a fuel dynamics module that determines a fuel dynamics model that is indicative of fuel behavior. The fuel dynamic module determines an inverse of the fuel dynamics model, receives a fuel command, and generates an adjusted fuel command based on the fuel command and the inverse of the fuel dynamics model. A lost fuel compensation module receives the adjusted fuel command and generates a final fuel command based on the adjusted fuel command and a lost fuel factor. A control module controls fuel delivery according to the final fuel command.
