The personalized content system of the system combines a summary music identification value creation and identification algorithm that represents a mathematical summary music identification of a song, an audio file, or other relational music criteria and data (e.g title, artist, genre, style, beats per minute, etc.) or any combination thereof. The derived value represents the musical taste or style attributes of a song or style. The user can control the system by issuing one of a plurality of commands comprising artist command, song/title command, genre command, and album/filtered list command. These commands then lead to command trees that may be used in a voice controlled system, for example.

The system includes a navigation system, a remote information system, and a data communication network linking the navigation system and the remote information system. A method is also disclosed that includes the steps of establishing a communication connection between the navigation system and the remote information system, and determining the optimum route to the destination where the optimum route is determined based on requested information received from the remote information system.

A system includes a fixed base unit adapted to execute a first set of stand-alone infotainment/telematics functions and a portable communication device adapted to execute a second set of stand-alone infotainment/telematics functions. The first set of stand-alone infotainment/telematics functions may overlap with one or more of the second set of stand-alone infotainment/telematics functions. The fixed base unit and the portable communication device are connectable with one another for intelligent communication to shift at least one of the overlapping infotainment/telematics functions from the portable communication device or the fixed base unit to the other of the portable communication device or the fixed base unit. Shifting of the overlapping infotainment/telematics functions may be based on the relative processing power of the portable communication device and the fixed base unit.

An infotainment/telematics system includes a fixed base unit and a portable communication device. The fixed base unit may include a plurality of base unit devices cooperating with a base unit processor to execute a set of stand-alone infotainment/telematics functions. The portable communication device may include a one or more PCD devices cooperating with a portable communication device processor to execute a one or more stand-alone infotainment/telematics functions. The fixed base unit and the portable communication device may be connected for intelligent communication with one another to share and/or control a base unit device and/or a PCD device. Multiple portable communication devices may be connected to a single base unit to share the infotainment/telematics devices of the portable communication devices with the base unit and/or between the multiple portable communication devices. The fixed base unit may be fixed in a vehicle.
