Communication system including a support frame having a pair of spacer walls that oppose each other. The spacer walls defines a receiving gap directly therebetween. The communication system also includes a floatable connector assembly including a connector module and a communication cable coupled to the connector module. The connector module is configured to engage a mating module along a central axis to establish a communicative connection. At least a portion of the connector assembly is disposed between the spacer walls within the receiving gap. The communication system also includes a positioning gasket having a plurality of alignment members that directly engage at least one of the connector assembly or the support frame. The alignment members permit the connector assembly to float with respect to the support frame during the mating operation in a direction that is transverse to the central axis.

An alignment pin is provided. The alignment pin includes an alignment member that is configured to extend from a surface of a circuit board. The alignment member has a flange that engages an electronic module. The flange aligns and retains the electronic module on the circuit board. A coupling member extends from the alignment member. The coupling member is configured to be through hole mounted to an aperture in the circuit board. The coupling member has a retention feature that creates a press-fit between a surface of the aperture and the coupling member. The coupling member has a cross-sectional width at the retention feature that is greater than a diameter of the aperture. The retention feature accommodates a press-fit with apertures having different diameters.

The present invention provides an optical interconnection system capable of connecting a plurality of optical array connectors between assemblies. The optical array connectors are arranged to minimize the board real estate occupied by the assembly. Safety features are provided for preventing light from escaping in both the mated and unmated condition.

Optical connector having multiple modular housings

This invention is directed to a cleaning insert and cleaning assembly to remove debris or contaminants from optical fiber connectors including connectors attached to system backplanes. The cleaning insert is treated with a cleaning agent such as an adhesive. The cleaning insert is secured in a cleaning assembly that is coupled to the connector to be cleaned. The treated cleaning insert contacts the ferrule of the optical fiber connector to remove the contaminants.

The invention relates to an improved strain relief adapted for mounting within a connector housing so as to protect a terminated cable assembled thereto from damage as a result of flexure of the cable relative to the housing. The strain relief including a sleeve having a proximal portion, a distal portion, and a central lumen disposed therebetween. The sleeve being adapted to slidingly receive the cable within the central lumen. The distal portion of the strain relief includes a substantially rigid tube that has a pair of shoulders which project radially-outwardly from an external surface of the distal portion in diametrically-opposed relation to one another. An annular shoulder is positioned in spaced relation to the pair of shoulders and projects radially-outwardly from the external surface of the strain relief. A recess is defined between the pair of shoulders and the annular shoulder. The strain relief structure is adapted to be assembled to a correspondingly shaped receptacle portion of a connector housing.

An optical fiber termination assembly (1) in which a jacket (24) of an optical fiber cable (20) is clamped between a termination member (10) and an inner crimp eyelet (41), and a unitary deformable body (48) within an interior of the eyelet (41), deformable thin wall sections (50) optical fibers (21, 22), and the eyelet (41) being crimped inwardly to close the deformable thin wall sections (50) in frictional contact with the optical fibers (21, 22).

An electrical connector includes a dielectric housing including a transverse body section and a shroud portion extending forwardly therefrom and defining a cavity, an array of pin contact members extending forwardly of the body section and within the cavity and at least one pair of closely spaced elongate members within the cavity. The elongate members extend to respective leading ends forwardly beyond the leading edge of the shroud portion and cooperate with the shroud portion and with each other to disallow inadvertent entry of a human finger into the cavity proximate pin contacts adjacent the elongate members. The pair of elongate members further provide aligning and keying means for the connector.

Receptacle connector having protected power contacts

A power connector for interconnecting power between printed circuit boards (12, 24) includes plug and receptacle contacts (40, 70) linked to signal connector halves (16, 28) alos mounted on the circuit boards such that the plug and receptacle contacts intermate along a given axis as the connector halves are intermated. The receptacle contact (70) includes an array of resilient contact fingers (80-82) spaced apart and staggered to engage the plug contact (40) upon mating along the given axis at given points to reduce insertion forces, preclude undue wear of the plug contact from repeated engagements while carrying sufficient current to effect a power transfer from one board to another board. The contacts further include a plurality of posts (48, 74, 76) spaced apart to distribute current to the thin conductive traces of boards to preclude undue resistance heating of such traces in the circuits defined thereby. Insulating housings (52, 56) of the plug and receptacle contacts are provided with the housing (56) surrounding the receptacle contact to preclude accidental shorting as between multiple contacts.

Power connector with current distribution

An adjunct electrical connector (44-60) includes a mechanical line (52) added to a signal connector half (34) to increase power transfer between circuit boards (12, 24). The power connector includes contacts of a given cross-section to carry a given current with the contacts having a plurality of posts (50, 70) spaced apart and of a lesser cross-section to carry a fraction of the given current so as to distribute such current to thin conductive traces (32) on the said board half with said post being on the centers of holes in said printed circuit board (24).

Adjunct power connector

A coaxial contact element for use in receptacle connectors of the type used with printed circuit cards and the like. More particularly the contact element includes an inner contact for being electrically mated with a center contact of a post and an outer contact for being electrically mated with outer contacts of the post. A dielectric spacer electrically isolates the inner and outer contacts of the contact element.

An improved electrical contact element for use in connector housings. More particularly, the contact element includes a U-shaped retention section having one resilient leg extending obliquely outwardly. Further included is a resilient web in between and connecting the forward termination section and retention section to provide a degree of independent movement of the former relative to the latter.

A stiffener device for use with electrical connectors. More particularly, the stiffener device includes a rigid L-shaped member having a groove in which an electrical connector is slidingly received and locking clips which are attached to the connector and frictionally received in a channel in the L-shaped member to prevent relative movement between the member and connector.

An electrical power connector for conducting electrical power from a power bus bar to a circuit card. More particularly, the connector includes contact elements having tab terminal receiving receptacles positioned in a dielectric housing in a staggered arrangement so that the forces requires to insert tab terminals into the receptacles are distributed. Further, the terminal-receiving space in each receptacle is defined by a stationary member on one side and dual side-by-side spring-biased members on the other side so that the force required to insert a tab terminal therein is initially incremental.

Electrical power connector

A high current power connector has contact elements defining a pin receiving opening. The contact elements are spring loaded inwardly to increase the contact force between each contact element and a pin. The connector also has the capability for the contact members to float and to realign themselves if the pin and contact elements are misaligned.
