A method for improving heat transfer during distillation and concentration of extract with solvent includes providing a distillation vessel having a heat transfer surface and preparing the heat transfer surface with a plurality of surface features. A distillation and concentration system includes a distillation vessel having a heat transfer surface prepared with a plurality of surface features in accordance with the method.

A method for phytochemical extraction includes providing a distillation vessel, providing a mixture of solvent and plant extract to the distillation vessel, placing the distillation vessel on a heat source, coupling the distillation vessel with a collector configured to collect condensed solvent, selecting an initial distillation temperature and outputting heat from the heat source at a heat source initial target temperature to heat the distillation vessel to a distillation vessel initial target temperature and boil the mixture in the distillation vessel at the initial distillation temperature and at an initial heat flux. With a vacuum pump, a distillation vessel initial target pressure is set within the distillation vessel.

A method of absorption spectroscopy to determine a rapidly variable gas parameter. The method includes transmitting light from a synchronization light source to a synchronization detector. The transmitted light is periodically interrupted by a moving mechanical part between the synchronization light source and synchronization detector. The output from the synchronization detector is used to generate a repeating time signal having variable phase delay. This signal is used to control the timing of laser spectroscopy wavelength scans. Multiple spectroscopic scans may be repeated at multiple selected time signal phase delay and the results averaged for each phase. Apparatus for implementing the above methods are also disclosed.

Described herein is a mobile data storage magazine for interacting with a docking station. The magazine can include a magazine frame containing a plurality of operatively interconnected disk drives, a first contact element associated with the magazine frame capable of conducting electrical power to at least one of the plurality of disk drives when engaged with a second contact element associated with the docking station wherein the first and second contact elements are adapted to cooperate in a non male/female relationship. The magazine can further comprise a first communication element capable of conducting data between at least one of the plurality of disk drives and the docking station when the first communication element is operatively linked to a second communication element associated with the docking station.

The present invention provides an architecture for a data cartridge library that has a high data density footprint, i.e., is capable of storing data cartridges such that the density of data stored per area of floor space is high. In one embodiment, the architecture includes a plurality of shelves with each shelf capable of holding at least one data cartridge drawer that holds cartridges such that the face of the cartridges stored therein are substantially parallel to a side of the library.
