This disclosure provides methods, components, devices and systems for radio frequency sensing control for an ultra-wideband system. Some aspects more specifically relate to setting up one or more sensing instances (sensing rounds) for one or more respective sensing operations. In some implementations, a first wireless device (for example a controller, an initiator) may transmit a sensing session setup request frame that indicates a set of parameters for the one or more sensing instances. For each of the sensing instances, the first wireless device may transmit a sensing control information element that includes at least a common sensing control configuration and a channel impulse response report configuration. The first wireless device may participate in the sensing operations with at least a second wireless device (for example one or more responders or controlees) during the respective sensing instances.

Radio frequency sensing control for an ultra-wideband system

This disclosure provides methods, components, devices and systems for adjacent channel interference (ACI) mitigation techniques for ultra-wideband (UWB) systems. Some aspects more specifically relate to ACI mitigation for UWB systems. In some implementations, a wireless communication device may receive control information that identifies a preamble for communications to the wireless communication device in a UWB system. The wireless communication device may receive, via a signal in the UWB system, a data packet that includes the preamble. The wireless communication device may estimate a channel impulse response (CIR) of the signal and determine an interference metric that is based on the estimated CIR. The wireless communication device may process the data packet based on the interference metric.

Adjacent channel interference mitigation for ultra-wideband systems

Various aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication. In some aspects, a responding device may receive a signal from an initiating device. The responding device may estimate, from the signal, a channel impulse response (CIR) that represents signal reflections from one or more objects as multiple taps. The responding device may select one or more taps, from the multiple taps, that are within a first time window that starts at a first offset from a reference point and that has a first specified time duration. The responding device may transmit, to the initiating device, a CIR report that indicates the one or more taps. Numerous other aspects are described.

Radio frequency sensing with channel impulse response

Aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication. In some aspects, a first wireless communication device (WCD) may transmit, to a second wireless communication device, a first synchronization message using a first radio frequency (RF) technology and a first frequency resource, the first synchronization message associated with synchronization for a second RF technology. The first WCD may transmit, to the second WCD and after switching to a second frequency resource, a second synchronization message using the first RF technology, the second synchronization message associated with synchronization for the second RF technology, and the switching to the second frequency resource based at least in part on one or more of: transmission of the second synchronization message being associated with ranging or sensing, or failure of the first synchronization message or failure of a reply, from the second WCD, to the first synchronization message. Narrowband assisted ultrawideband frequency hopping

Techniques are provided for authenticating a user based on ranging and biometric information. An example method for transmitting a ranging signal from a mobile device includes receiving biometric information from a user with the mobile device, generating a ranging signal including an indication of the biometric information with the mobile device, and transmitting the ranging signal with the mobile device.

Various aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication. In some aspects, a wireless device may perform a listen-before-talk (LBT) procedure for a narrowband communication that provides time and frequency synchronization and/or scheduling information for an ultra-wideband (UWB) communication. The wireless device may transmit the narrowband communication in response to the LBT procedure being successful. The wireless device may transmit the UWB communication based at least in part on the time and frequency synchronization and/or scheduling information. Numerous other aspects are described.

Narrowband communication for ultra-wideband communication

An example method of ultra-wideband (UWB) sensing performed by a wireless communication device, the method comprising determining a first channel impulse response (CIR) estimation of a first frequency channel based on a radio access technology (RAT) session, wherein the RAT is different from UWB. The method also comprises determining a second CIR estimation of a second frequency channel based on a UWB session and determining a third CIR estimation of the first frequency channel based on determining a phase difference between the third CIR estimation and the first CIR estimation. The method further comprises determining a total CIR estimation for a combined frequency channel comprising the first frequency channel and the second frequency channel based on stitching the first CIR estimation, the second CIR estimation, and the third CIR estimation.

Wideband-assisted ultra-wideband (UWB) sensing

The relative position of a user equipment (UE) within a vehicle is determined using angular measurements, such as angle of arrival (AOA), and optionally ranging measurements, with respect to a number of wireless transceivers within the vehicle using wideband signals. The relative position of the UE with respect to a personal zone or the steering wheel may be determined based on known positions of the wireless transceivers. If the UE is determined to be within the personal zone, at least one functionality of the UE is restricted to avoid driver distraction and, optionally, the operation autonomous driving of the vehicle adjusted. If the UE is worn on the driver's wrist the relative position of the UE with respect to the steering wheel may be similarly determined and operation of the vehicle modified if the UE is determined to be outside a threshold distance from the steering wheel.

Method and apparatus for relative positioning of a user equipment in a vehicle

Differing operations of a wireless communication device benefit from different antenna configurations, such as for positioning, where closely spaced antennas are desirable, and data communication, where antenna diversity is desirable. A device is configured to receive a request for receive a request for determining a position of a user equipment (UE), select one of a first plurality of antennas or a second plurality of antennas for determining the position of the UE, receive wireless signals using the selected first plurality of antennas or the second plurality of antennas, and determine the position of the UE based at least in part on the received wireless signals.

Antenna sharing for multiple wireless communication technologies

Various aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication. In some aspects, a first wireless communication device may transmit, to a second wireless communication device, a time and/or frequency synchronization message using a first radio frequency (RF) technology, wherein the time and/or frequency synchronization message is used to obtain synchronization information for a second RF technology. The first wireless communication device may transmit, to the second wireless communication device, a first set of ranging measurement signals associated with the second RF technology. Narrowband assisted ultrawideband message sequences

Techniques are provided for improving ranging accuracy of ultrawideband (UWB) devices. An example method for obtaining a distance measurement with a wireless node includes obtaining a first distance measurement using a first radio link, determining a status of a second radio link in response to the first distance measurement being less than a threshold distance, configuring one or more transceiver parameters associated with the second radio link in response to determining the second radio link is utilizing a non-line of sight path, and obtaining a second distance measurement using the second radio link and the one or more transceiver parameters.

Aspects described herein include devices and methods for smart ultra wideband transmissions. In one aspect, an apparatus includes pulse generation circuitry configured to output a plurality of transmission (TX) pulse samples at a selected signal sample rate, where each pulse sample of the plurality of TX pulse samples comprises a value associated with a pulse amplitude at a corresponding sample time The apparatus includes a plurality of power amplifier (PA) cells, with each PA cell of the plurality of PA cells comprising a corresponding current source and associated gates, and where the associated gates of a PA cell are selectable to configure an on state and an off state. Logic circuitry of the apparatus is configured to set the on state or the off state for each PA cell.

Ultra wideband transmitter

In some implementations, an ultra-wideband (UWB) transmitter may generate a data packet for performing the UWB ranging, wherein: the data packet comprises a plurality of symbols, and the data packet further includes one or more zero-power symbols at one or more respective pseudo-random locations in the plurality of symbols. The UWB transmitter may transmit the data packet via UWB radio frequency (RF) signals during a UWB ranging session between the UWB transmitter and a UWB receiver.

Secure ranging and interference mitigation for UWB

A user equipment (UE) includes a first communication component configured to use a first frequency band, such as ultra-wide band (UWB), and a second communication component configured to use an intermediate frequency (IF) band that overlaps with the UWB band, such as an IF millimeter wave (mmWave) band. The second communication component conducts an IF signal along an internal signal conduction line that may interfere with UWB processing. A processor of the UE is configured to detect an indication of such interference, and, in response to the indication of interference, control the second communication component to adjust a characteristic of the IF band signal to mitigate the interference, such as by reducing its signal strength. The amount by which the IF band signal strength is reduced may be controlled to achieve a desired tradeoff between various performance metrics, such as power consumption and quality of service.

Radio frequency coexistence mitigations within wireless user equipment handsets

This disclosure provides systems, devices, apparatus, and methods, including computer programs encoded on storage media, related to low power techniques for a BLE device during a scanning state. The BLE device is configured to scan for a preamble of a packet while in a first power mode and detect when a bit of the preamble is received. Upon detecting that the bit of the preamble is received, the BLE device switches from the first power mode to a second power having a higher operating power for the BLE device than the first power mode. The switch in power modes occurs while the preamble is being received or immediately after the preamble is received and before an access address of the packet is received. The BLE device, while in the second power mode, then scans for the access address of the packet.
