A mechanical tamper evident security seal for sealing a cargo container door includes a metallic pin having a head at an upper end and circumferential indents at a second end. An upper banner includes a portion non-removably encasing the head of the metallic pin. The banner includes first identifying indicia unique to a particular one of a plurality of like mechanical seals. A lock receptacle receives the second end of the metallic pin therein and includes a lock housing retaining at least two locks therein. A first of the locks engaging a first of the circumferential indents and a second of the locks simultaneously engages a second of the circumferential indents. Any attempt to withdraw the metallic pin results in visually identifiable destruction of the seal. A lower banner extending from the lock receptacle includes second unalterable identifying indicia identical to the first identifying indicia. The seal is one element of a security seal tamper-evidencing kit providing a multi-layered approach to securing a cargo container.

Mechanical tamper-evident high security seal and method of use to secure a cargo container

A security seal includes a first seal member having a first locking portion and a first detection circuit portion. A second seal member has a second locking portion and a second detection circuit portion. The first locking portion is engagable to the second locking portion to engage and irretrievably lock together the first seal member to the second seal member. Engagement of the first seal member to the second seal member operatively connects the first detection circuit portion to the second detection circuit portion to provide a combined detection circuit throughout the security seal. In a preferred embodiment, the first seal member includes a spear having the first locking portion, and the second seal member includes a sleeve having the second locking portion. The spear is insertable into the sleeve to engage the first locking portion to the second locking portion, and to thereby engage the first seal member and the first detection circuit portion to the second seal member and the second detection circuit portion. Breaking of the security seal will break continuity of the combined detection circuit portions, which continuity is checked for evidence of tampering.

Security seal

A security seal includes a first seal member having a first locking portion and a first detection circuit portion. A second seal member has a second locking portion and a second detection circuit portion. The first locking portion is engageable to the second locking portion to engage and irretrievably lock together the first seal member to the second seal member. Engagement of the first seal member to the second seal member operatively connects the first detection circuit portion to the second detection circuit portion to provide a combined detection circuit throughout the security seal. The first seal member preferably includes a spear having the first locking portion, and the second seal member includes a sleeve having the second locking portion. The spear is insertible into the sleeve to engage the first locking portion to the second locking portion, and to thereby engage the first seal member and the first detection circuit portion to the second seal member and the second detection circuit portion. Breaking of the security seal will break continuity of the combined detection circuit portions, which continuity is checked for evidence of tampering. In an alternative embodiment, a conductive strip is embedded within an elongated stem extending from the first seal member. The stem is engageable to the second seal member to form the security seal. Contact points allow testing of the continuity of the conductive strip as evidence of tampering. The seal members are preferably formed from a clear material with embedded indicia to provide a visual indication of tampering.

A tap assembly for a container of liquid comprises a delivery spout molded of a gas impermeable plastic and a unitary dispenser closure molded of an elastomeric material having the required resiliency for valve operation. The spout has a neck which opens outwardly into a hemispherical bowl terminating in a rim and having an opening providing a dispensing port. The closure has a bowl-shaped diaphragmic wall which snaps onto the rim and seat in the bowl of the spout in a closed-valve position as a seal across the neck and port openings. An integral toggle projects axially forwardly from the bottom of the bowl-shaped wall for finger manipulation to distort the latter from the closed-valve position to an open valve-position of partially unseated configuration for dispensing liquid from the container. A plug, molded of a gas impermeable plastic, forms a temporary gas barrier and comprises a stopper portion sized to fit the neck of the spout and a forward extension which projects into a hollow formed in the toggle. The toggle is also depressible inwardly to dislodge the plug into the container preparatory for use. Alternatively, a flexible disk having gas impermeable properties is permanently mounted on the interior side of the bowl-shaped wall of the closure, moves therewith from closed to open valve positions, and coacts with the spout as the gas barrier when closed.

Tap assembly

A two piece dispenser closure, comprising a housing and an interior valve member, is molded of elastomeric plastic material for snap-on mounting on the delivery end of a tubular spout of the flexible plastic container of a liquid in bag-in-a-box packaging. The housing has a valve seat formed with an opening and a forward extension formed as a hollow compressible push button. The interior valve member has a valve body with a forward portion extending into the push button. The valve body is mounted on a normally forwardly convex annular diaphragm which retains the valve body in a seated, closed position in the housing valve seat. The diaphragm is formed with openings and is resiliently deformable to an invaginated configuration when an inward force is applied to the valve body forward portion through the push button to unseat the valve body whereby liquid flows from the tubular spout through the diaphragm openings, between the valve body and valve seat and is dispensed through the valve seat opening. Upon release of the push button, the latter and diaphragm return to normal valve closing position. In a three piece construction, the valve member has a sleeve engaging the interior surface of the tubular spout which mounts a cap in stopper fashion or a bonded puncturable disc as a seal for the inlet end of the tubular spout, the cap and disc being gas impermeable.

Dispenser closure

A molded container provided for use in the storage and shipping of such items as film or videotape cassettes. The container locates the cassette so that the walls of the cassette are isolated against shocks occurring to the container. The container provides mounts for releasably securing end and mailing labels to the container and includes openings for carrying the container.

Storage and shipping container

Each top cover of carrying and shipping containers designed for nested stacking has a first locking means for securing the cover to the container bottom. A second locking means for connecting each locked container to a similar underlying container positioned in stacked relation is located within the structure of a male component of the first locking means which is mounted in the container cover. Structures of both locking means are provided for rotary and linear sliding modes of operation. The second locking means include cam collars having upper and lower chambers, the latter housing followers which, when actuated by a finger manipulatable means accessible from the top of the containers, project and lock into the upper chambers of similar cam collars of underlying containers.

A rotary latch has an upstanding finger grip for rotating the latch to open and closed positions normally located in a well, recessed below a surface of a container. The latch is formed as a two-piece combination, the finger grip terminating a telescoping inner member adapted to rotate with an outer member which provides the latching means and to be extended to position the finger grip above the container surface facilitating rotation of the latch. The two pieces are molded as an integral unit in tandem axial alignment interconnected by a pair of webs, which, by axial compression of the molded unit, are severed for automatic prealigned telescoping assembly and operative engagement of the inner and outer members into the two-piece latch.
