An apparatus for loading and unloading containers of various sizes onto and off of a roll-off vehicle comprises a top frame and at least one lift actuator operable to pivot the top frame away from a horizontal home position to rearwardly incline the top frame. The top frame includes a main portion, a head portion longitudinally displaceable relative to the main portion, a plurality of sheaves, a cable extending through the sheaves, and a hoist actuator operable to displace the head portion between a retracted position and an extended position. The cable has a fixed end coupled to the head portion and a free end for coupling to a container. The hoist actuator is operated while the top frame is away from the home position to displace the head portion toward the extended position to load a container onto the vehicle, and toward the retracted position to unload the container.

Universal roll-off frame

An apparatus for a hook lift jib which is easily movable between an extended position and a retracted position to make the applications for use of this apparatus more universal since it is capable of being used for lifting and handling of refuse containers of various sizes. The jib member can be retained in the extended position by the placement of two locking pins extending therethrough or it can be capable of floating or automated self movement between the extended and retracted position responsive to removal of one of the pin members. The hook lift jib apparatus is designed to be particularly useful handling containers of different sizes particularly useful with containers wherein the container grip bar is between 54 inches and 61 inches from the adjacent ground surface.

Hook lift jib apparatus

A cable hoisting apparatus for loading and unloading of containers with respect to vehicles including a modular assembly allowing the apparatus to be easily attached or detached with respect to the vehicle. This modular assembly includes a subframe directly attachable detachably to the vehicle which includes a reeve cylinder and a lifting cylinder mounted therewithin. A top frame is included which is pivotally movably mounted to the subframe. The lifting cylinder powers pivotal movement of the top frame. Loading and unloading of the container is powered by the reeve cylinder. The reeve cylinder moves a shoe within a shoe track which extends or contracts a cable attached to a container which is positioned about a plurality of sheaves one of which is attached to the slideable shoe. A positively engaging locking construction is included defined between the subframe and the top frame for positively retaining the container.

Cable hoisting apparatus

A redundant locking device is disclosed with two adjacently positioned latching arms each including an L-shaped hook portion selectively engageable with the container for securing it to a trailer or truck transport apparatus. The two latching arms are positively driven by a powering means such as a hydraulic or pneumatic cylinder which urges both latching arms toward the engaged position for securement of the container. Powering is provided through a lateral link member which is movably secured such as by a universally flexible ball and socket joint with respect to each latching arm for powering movement thereof responsive to activation of the driving air cylinder. The locking device can be secured to the side of a transport vehicle with the cylinder located between the retracted position of the arms or beneath the vehicle with the arms along the side of the vehicle and the drive cylinder positioned therebeneath.

Double locking apparatus for use with a roll-off container transport vehicle

A double articulating hook lifting apparatus usable mounted upon a truck or trailer for loading and unloading containers with respect thereto and also being usable for dumping the containers. The locking mechanism operates to secure a movable arm to the pivot frameto stop pivotal movement relative to one another, which also facilitates the movement required for dumping of the contents of the container while mounted on the vehicle. The Locking device is automatically allowed to move to the locked position by the movement of the jib away from the arm, preferably in a telescoping manner. This movement occurs as the last step in the sequence of container loading to thereby automatically provide locking between the arm and the pivot frameto prevent pivotal relative movement therebetween whenever the container is in the loaded position or is in dumping mode. As the container unloading sequence is initiated the jib moves toward the arm or telescopingly thereinto which powers unlocking of the locking mechanism as the first step in the sequence of container unloading.

Locking mechanism for a double articulating hook lift apparatus usable mounted on a vehicle

A two staged system for powering the loading of a container upon a roll-off truck body or trailer utilizing initial movement of a single shoe within the vehicle frame and powering of movement thereof into abutment with respect to second movable shoe each of which includes a sheave about which the powering cable extends. Each shoe member moves through a path which is overlapping such that initially enhanced power and slower movement are provided to the container and during the second or final stage faster movement and less power is applied.

Apparatus for dual stage loading of a container upon a roll-off vehicle

A bumper assembly securable beneath an extended rear support bed of a vehicle wherein the bed can tilt from a horizontal orientation to a downwardly inclined position and wherein the retractable safety bumper will become retracted when the bed is in the inclined position and will be deployed for safety protection when the bed is in the horizontal position. Movement of the bumper is powered solely by a biasing device such as a spring used in combination with gravitational forces exerted upon the bumper assembly for properly coordinating movement thereof between the deployed and the retracted position with movement of the bed between the horizontal and the inclined position.

Retractable safety bumper apparatus

An apparatus for selectively positioning containers upon a trailer includes a main frame with a stationary upper frame and a pivotally movable hoisting frame. The pivotally movable frame is adapted to be movable between a lower position and a raised position to facilitate loading. A carriage is movable between the front portion of the movable hoisting frame and the stationary upper frame. This carriage controls movement of the containers upon and from the first container station on the stationary upper frame and the second container station on the movable hoisting frame. A primary winch is mounted with respect to the movable hoisting frame and includes a cable means extending about a sheave rotatably mounted on the carriage. An auxiliary movement device is positioned adjacent the front end of the vehicle body to facilitate movement of the container from the second station to the first station. The carriage is selectively movable between the front position and the rear position when a container is positioned upon the first container station to facilitate unloading of that container or to facilitate loading of a second container onto the second container receiving station. In this manner a single, fairly powerful primary winch device can be utilized for loading of two separate containers onto two separate locations longitudinally along the trailer. The use of only a single primary winch is achieved by the inclusion of a less powerful auxiliary movement device which may be a small winch, hydraulic cylinder or chain drive.

An apparatus for loading a container or other load onto a truck body or trailer and for removal which includes a lower frame secured to the truck during movement and an upper frame pivotally secured with respect to the lower frame to facilitate loading and unloading. The upper frame has one or more rollers secured to an outermost portion thereof. A flexible drive cable is secured at one end to the lower frame and is secured at the other end to the container structure. The cable passes over the roller or rollers and is moved thereby during loading and unloading operations. The cable utilizes no drive other than merely the movement of the roller device with the upper frame which alters the direction of extension of the cable thereby facilitating loading and unloading of the container or load by use of a cable without any winching operation.
