This invention discloses a process for manufacturing an elastomeric article by liquid injection molding, said process comprising the steps of: (I) heating a curable composition comprised of (1) a liquid polymer comprised of repeat units that are derived from a conjugated diolefin monomer, wherein said liquid polymer has a weight average molecular weight which is within the range of 5,000 to 100,000, and wherein the liquid polymer is functionalized with an amine moiety, (2) a carbonyl inhibited platinum catalyst, and (3) a tetrakis(dialkyl siloxy) silane crosslinking agent, to a temperature which is within the range of 30&#xb0; C. to 100&#xb0; C.; (II) injecting the heated curable composition into a mold at a temperature which is within the range of 100&#xb0; C. to 210&#xb0; C. to produce the elastomeric article; and (III) removing the elastomeric article from the mold.

The present invention relates to a soft thermoplastic elastomer composition that is free of thermoplastic resin that can be utilized in manufacturing shoe sole inserts, seals, gaskets, wheels, and that can be overmolded on a hard substrate, such as a metal or a thermoplastic resin, for grips or handles on various household items. The present invention more specifically discloses a thermoplastic elastomer composition that is made by a process comprising: (1) mixing (A) a block copolymer comprising a first polymeric block that is comprised of repeat units that are derived from a vinyl aromatic monomer and a second block that is comprised of repeat units that are derived from a conjugated diolefin monomer, wherein the repeat units in the second block are hydrogenated, and wherein the repeat units in the second block are elastomeric in nature, (B) a crosslinkable elastomer, and (C) an oil, to produce an un-crosslinked three component blend; and (2) dynamically crosslinking the crosslinkable elastomer in the un-crosslinked three component blend during a thermo-mechanical mixing step; wherein the thermoplastic elastomer composition is void of thermoplastic resins.

This invention also discloses that the elasticity of such cured elastomeric articles can be increased without reducing cure levels by incorporating a liquid Ctackifier resin into the liquid polymer.

The present invention is based upon the unexpected finding that polyisoprene rubber which is clear and of high purity can be cured utilizing the curative system of this invention to attain an elongation at break of greater than 1200% without compromising the clarity or purity of the rubber. The curative system of this invention is comprised of a carbonyl inhibited platinum catalyst, and a branched crosslinking agent having at least 2 hydrosilyl groups per molecule. The curative system of this invention can be used to cure solid polyisoprene rubber that is used in a wide variety of application and is a particular value in curing polyisoprene rubber used in manufacturing sporting goods, healthcare, and medical products. The present invention more specifically discloses a curable polyisoprene rubber composition comprising: (1) a polyisoprene rubber comprised of repeat units that are derived from isoprene monomer, (2) a carbonyl inhibited platinum catalyst, and (3) a crosslinking agent having at least 2 hydrosilyl groups per molecule.

The invention relates to articles of manufacture, such as for example, tires and industrial products, which have at least one component comprised of a rubber composition which contains particles of pre-sulfur vulcanized rubber (e.g. ground recycled rubber) and impure tetrathiodipropionic acid, namely a blend comprised primarily of tetrathiodipropionic acid and trithiodipropionic acids of a weight ratio thereof in a range of about 80/20 to about 30/70. Said blend is referred to herein as an S4/S3 blend. The S4/S3 blend may be introduced directly to a rubber composition or may be provided as particles of a composite of said S4/S3 and a particulate support therefor for a purpose of aiding the dispersion of the S4 and S3 within the elastomer host. Representative of such support, or carrier, may be, for example, silica, particularly amorphous precipitated silica, carbon black, clay, starch, calcium carbonate, calcium silicate, titanium dioxide and the like, wherein carbon black is preferred. It is considered herein that an advantageous nature of the invention is to provide such an S4/S3 blend, for example, in a manner to somewhat depress the melting point of the trithiodipropionic acid and therefore promote its processability and incorporation with particles of pre-vulcanized rubber without substantially degrading any beneficial effect thereof. Thus, the invention is intended to be exclusive of use of 100 percent pure tetrathiodipropionic acid and exclusive of relatively high purity trithiodipropionic acid which contains at least 80 percent trithiodipropionic acid.
