In one implementation, relationship based cache resource naming and evaluation includes a generate engine to generate a name for a resource being added to a cache, including a plurality of resources, based on a plurality of parameters of a query including an input resource from which the resource is derived, a workflow of the operations to perform to the input resource to generate the resource, and a context associated with the query. In addition, the system includes an evaluate engine to evaluate, in response to an event, each of the plurality of resources and the named resource related to the event.

Relationship based cache resource naming and evaluation

A business process () having a number of computer implemented steps using software application components, to enable automatic deployment on computing infrastructure, is modelled by a management system. It automatically derives a grounded model () of the business process from an unbound model () of the business process, based on an infrastructure design template (). The unbound model specifies the application components to be used, and the grounded model adds a complete design of the computing infrastructure to be used. The use of an infrastructure design template can reduce the large number of options to be evaluated to help reduce the complexity of generating or changing the grounded model. The infrastructure design template formally relates the business process, application components and infrastructure design so that designs, or changes which are inconsistent or inefficient can be avoided. Thus more automation of the designing and changing the design is feasible.

Deriving grounded model of business process suitable for automatic deployment

An audio user interface is provided in which items are represented in an audio field by corresponding synthesized sound sources from where sounds related to the items appear to emanate. An audio cursor, in the form of a synthesised sound source from which a distinctive cursor sound emanates, is movable in the audio field under user control. Upon the cursor being moved close to an item-representing sound source, a related audible indication is generated by modifying the sounds emanating from at least one of that item-representing sound source and the cursor. In one embodiment, this audible indication also indicates the current distance between the cursor and item-representing sound source and also the direction of the latter from the cursor.

A system for automated lifecycle management of a computer implemented service, according to requirements, having a service model () representing the service at a given development state in the lifecycle, and a transition model () representing allowed operations to change the service model to a different one of the development states of the service, according to the requirements, and the transition model having a transparent structure suitable for automated inspection of the allowed operations, and suitable for automated adaptation of the allowed operations. The service model can be developed to another of its states of development according to the transition model. This can help facilitate more automation of the service development than for example code in a closed and fixed form such as for example a compiled program for altering the service model. This in turn can enable more complex services to be developed, or reduce development costs.

Automated lifecycle management of a computer implemented service

A method is provided for inviting an assistant entity, such as a customer service representative acting through a endpoint system, into an existing network communication session established by a service system. The service system controls the joining of endpoint entities to the session and enables endpoint entities joined to the session to communicate with each other. The method involves a first party associated with an endpoint system already joined to the session, indicating to the service system that the presence of an assistant entity is required. The service system selects an appropriate assistant entity taking account of the current context of the communication session, and joins the selected assistant entity to the session.

Inviting assistant entity into a network communication session

A user is pre-qualified for a service provided at a particular location. Location data indicative of where the service is to be triggered and a service element are stored. The service instance element is a full customised instance of the service delivery code or other item that provides an association between the user and an instance of the service for which the user is qualified. The user location, as indicated by a mobile entity associated with the user, is periodically checked against the location data. When a location match occurs, the service instance for which the user has been qualified is executed to deliver the required service to the user. An example is an airline traveler buying, from a travel agent, an air ticket having an associated service wherein, the traveler, upon arriving at the relevant airport, is contacted via its mobile device and guided through check-in and boarding.

Service delivery method and system

Location data about a mobile entity () is periodically provided to a location-sensitive application, for example, a route-tracking application. The location data is updated at a frequency that is adaptively varied in dependence on the provision of location data about the mobile entity from other sources (). The update frequency can also be made dependent on further factors such as: the motion of the mobile entity('V'), the current environment of the mobile entity ('E'), and the progress of the location-sensitive application (&#x201c;Z&#x201d;).

Obtaining location updates about a mobile entity for use in a location-sensitive application

A method is provided for augmenting a set of image recordings in which, in addition to making image recordings (), location data () is recorded for locations for which the user desires an, or a further, image recording. This desired-image-recording location data is subsequently used to retrieve one or more corresponding image recordings from a service system ().

Augmentation of sets of image recordings

Image data generated at a first mobile device is transferred to a storage service that is accessible via a communications infrastructure and with which a first party associated with the first mobile entity is preferably registered. This transfer is effected via one or more nearby third-party mobile devices with the first mobile device initially transferring the image data and an identifier of itself to the or each nearby third-party mobile device by using, for example, a short-range wireless link. The or each third-party device is then responsible for directly or indirectly forwarding the image data and the first-party identifier over the communications infrastructure to the storage service where it is stored. In one preferred embodiment, a reward is credited to any party whose device has been used in the successful transfer of image data to the storage service on behalf of the first party.

System for uploading image data from a user mobile device to a nearby third-party mobile device before transfering to a network storage service device

The user of a mobile entity with camera functionality uses it to capture an image item which the user then transfers to a networked service system for future access. To facilitate the sharing of the image item with persons who were nearby when the image item was captured, the user uses the mobile entity to form a viewer set of permitted viewers of the image item. The process of forming the viewer set involves the user selection of individuals from a group of persons identified as nearby by a wireless enquiry carried out by the mobile entity contemporaneously with image-item capture. Each viewer in the viewer set is then sent a message with access information for accessing the image item at the service system.

Sharing image items

To enable controlled, secure connections using a versatile protocol such as TCP/IP to be established through a firewall and proxy server, the versatile protocol is tunnelled using HTTP. Client to server communications are effected using an HTTP POST operation. Server to client communications are effected using an HTTP GET operation to establish a tunnelled socket; this socket is closed within an interval less than any timeout imposed by the proxy server and immediately re-established by another GET operation, irrespective of whether data continue to be pending for communication to the client. A globally-unique ID is included in each POST and GET message to enable related messages to be recognized.

Providing secure access through network firewalls

A content-provider entity provides content to media channels established in respect of a network communication session. The content-provider entity has a transport subsystem for establishing media channel connections to a session transport mechanism in accordance with channel type and connection details received by the entity. The content-provider entity also has a media subsystem providing a respective media handler of appropriate type for each media channel connection established by the transport subsystem. Each media handler is responsible for delivering media content of its associated type from a media source to the corresponding channel connection. A delivery controller of the media subsystem controls the selection and delivery of media content through the media handlers in dependence on context data supplied to the content-provider entity.

Although the low bit-rate transmission causes a loss of audio quality, the positional data remains unaffected. Accordingly, when played, the combination of a high quality signal with low three-dimensional audio positional accuracy, and a set of low quality signals with high three-dimensional audio positional accuracy, results in restoration of the human perception of three-dimensional position to the degraded three-dimensional audio signal.

Audio system

An audio user interface is provided in which items are represented in an audio field by corresponding synthesized sound sources from where sounds related to the items appear to emanate. The interface is generated by apparatus that includes functionality for determining for each sound source, a rendering position at which the sound source is to be synthesized to sound in the audio field. To facilitate discrimination between the synthesized sound sources, the sound-source rendering positions are adjusted such that the audio field is dilated in a region of the audio field about a focus reference; this focus reference is, for example, the current direction of facing of the user or the position of an audio cursor in the audio field.

Audio user interface with selective audio field expansion

A local entity without its own means of voice communication is provided with the semblance of having a voice interaction capability. This is done by providing a beacon device at or near the entity, the beacon device transmitting, over a short-range communication link, contact data identifying a voice service associated with, but hosted separately from, the entity. The transmitted contact data is picked up by equipment carried by a nearby person and used to contact the voice service over a wireless network. The person then interacts with the voice service, the latter acting as a voice proxy for the local entity. The contact data can be presented to the user in other ways, for example, by being inscribed on the local entity for scanning or user input into the equipment.
