A system may receive a test signal from a first server; monitor network activity associated with the device; determine when the device is in an idle state based on the network activity associated with the device; generate a first packet based on receiving the test signal and based on determining when the device is in the idle state; provide the first packet to a second server; receive a second packet from the second server based on providing the first packet to the second server, the second packet authorizing the device to perform the network test; communicate with a third server, associated with the second packet, to perform the network test independently of the first and/or second server; generate test results based on performing the network test; and provide the test results to the second server, the second server being capable of generating performance data based on the test results.

Prioritized segmentation and reassembly methods and systems

In one embodiment, a system includes a first network device configured to communicate on a first communication layer, and a second network device configured to communicate on a second communication layer. The system further includes a router communicatively coupled to the first and second network devices through at least one network path. The at least one router includes a ping inter-working unit configured to support the transmission of a message between the first and second network devices through the at least one network path.

In one of many possible embodiments, a system includes a first reference node and a second reference node communicatively coupled to the first reference node by at least one network path, the reference nodes being configured to support transmission of a packet flow between one another over the network path. Each of the reference nodes is configured to count data packets received, the data packets being associated with the packet flow, and to latch a count of a number of the data packets received. The system includes a monitoring protocol configured to request the reference nodes to latch the respective counts. The monitoring protocol is further configured to retrieve the respective counts from the reference nodes and use the counts to determine a packet delivery measurement associated with the transmission of the packet flow between the reference nodes.

A device receives a list of uniform resource locators (URLs), selects a web page URL from the list of URLs, and requests, via a browser application, content corresponding to the selected web page URL. The device also receives, via a packet capture, a web page associated with the selected web page URL, derives performance information associated with the packet capture, parses the packet capture to extract page level statistics, connection level statistics, and inline object level statistics, and stores the page level statistics, the connection level statistics, and the inline object level statistics to output files.

Systems, methods, and apparatus are provided for emulating the performance effect on network traffic flow traversing a node in a communications network. According to one illustrative embodiment, a method of emulating traffic through a node is provided. The method includes generating foreground traffic through the node; simulating a first background traffic having a first weight at the node; simulating a second background traffic having a second weight at the node; determining an effect of the first and second background traffic on the foreground traffic; and making a forwarding decision with respect to the foreground traffic based on the effect.

System, methods and apparatii are provided for emulating the performance effect on network traffic flow traversing a node in a communications network. According to one illustrative embodiment, a method of emulating the performance effect on network traffic through a node is provided that includes generating foreground traffic through the node; simulating background traffic at the node; determining an effect of the background traffic on the foreground traffic; and making a forwarding decision with respect to the foreground traffic based on the effect.
