A drug delivery device includes a blunt cannula and a reservoir. The blunt cannula has a cylindrical wall that defines an axial passage between a first end and a second end of the blunt cannula. The wall has at least a first tapered region at the first end to define an opening in fluid communication with the axial passage and adapted at the first end to resist interruption of fluid flow through the axial passage and out of the first end of the blunt cannula. The reservoir is connected to the second end of the blunt cannula.

Modular fluid path assemblies are provided that include conduit, coupling, and needle portions of a fluid path fluidly coupled to an outlet of a container. The modular fluid path assemblies further include a needle shield having a tip of the needle embedded therein. So configured, in embodiments, the modular fluid path assemblies can be sterilized, a medicament can be filled in the container, and a stopper inserted in the container so that the pre-sterilized and pre-filled modular fluid path assemblies can have a closed container integrity (CCI) seal.

Modular fluid path assemblies for drug delivery devices

A drug delivery device includes a housing defining a shell and an inner volume, a container, a drive mechanism, a needle assembly, a fluid flow connection, and a backflow prevention mechanism. The container has an inner volume to contain a medicament to be administered to a user. The drive mechanism is at least partially disposed within the housing and exerts a force to urge the medicament out the container. The fluid flow connection is coupled to the container and the needle assembly and allows the medicament to flow from the container to the needle assembly to be administered. The backflow prevention mechanism is associated with at least one of the container, the fluid flow connection, or the needle assembly and includes at least one flow restrictor to restrict a fluid from flowing from the needle assembly to the container.

Backflow prevention mechanism for drug delivery device

Drug delivery devices and related methods of assembly are disclosed. The drug delivery device may include a housing and a container disposed therein. The container may include a reservoir containing a drug and a movable stopper. A first seal member may be connected to the container at a distal end of the reservoir. A first removable membrane may cover an exterior surface of the first seal member to maintain sterility of that surface prior to operation of the device. A fluid pathway assembly may be configured to establish fluid communication with the reservoir during operation of the device. A second seal member may be connected to a first end of the fluid pathway assembly. A second removable membrane may cover an exterior surface of the second seal member to maintain sterility of that surface prior to operation of the device.

A syringe is described with a plunger assembly that is adapted to have a dispensing stroke sized to dispense a fluid therapeutic product from the syringe without dispensing any air or headspace. The syringe includes a plunger rod having a stop feature that stops a dispensing stroke of the plunger rod at a distance corresponding to a level of air or headspace within the syringe avoiding additional air dispensing steps from a healthcare provider.

A drug delivery device includes a housing with at least one pressure communication channel or aperture, which distributes a negative fluid pressure across its base to draw tissue against the device. The device can also include a porous, adhesive layer over the channel(s) or aperture(s), for attaching to tissue. The device can also include a pressure sensor for determining whether there is proper attachment. Further, a bladder may be used instead of the adhesive layer for attaching the device. The bladder, in a partially inflated state, can apply constant pressure across a contact surface causing a flexible adhesive layer attached to the bladder to confirm and adhere to the tissue. Subsequent evacuation of the bladder causes it to deflate and collapse or retract, thereby causing the flexible adhesive layer to pull and stretch the tissue toward the base.

A spring release mechanism for a drug delivery includes a fusible member to restrain a spring in a charged state. A heating element is utilized to selectively heat and sever the fusible member. When the fusible member is severed, the spring is allowed to discharge and drive the drug delivery device components operably coupled thereto.
