An ROV comprising a topside, a fish and an umbilical cable for connecting the topside and the fish together. The fish is adapted to be powered by an onboard battery inductively coupled to the fish. The cable is of a fine diameter to reduce drag through the water. RF transmissions carry control and return signals to and from the fish and topside. The fish has two cameras. The front facing camera is located behind a dual layer flooded dome. A pan and tilt mechanism is fitted to one of the cameras and uses a pivotable gimbal frame driven by a lead nut moving along an arcuate bolt.

Remote operated vehicles

An electric circuit for equalizing voltages between serially arranged cells. The circuit is operable to generate AC voltages at amplitudes dependent on the DC voltages of the received cells. The AC voltages are all connected to an inductive coupling circuit. The inductive coupling allows higher-voltage cells to induce a recharging current flow in lower voltage cells and so equalize the cell voltages. The circuit also operates to ensure that cell voltages are maintained in equilibrium during charging or discharging of received cells, irrespective of the individual charging and discharging characteristics of the cells. The circuit thus prevents individual cells in a battery from being over-charged or over-discharged and allows more efficient use of the full capacity of a battery without risking damage to the individual cells. The cell equalizing circuit is thus especially useful for rechargeable cells, such as lithium-ion cells, which are sensitive to damage by over-charging and over-discharging.

Cell equalizing circuit

A lighting system ( ) comprises a plurality of high intensity discharge lamps ( ) and an electronic control ( ) having a power input ( ), an alternating current power output regulator ( ), and an alternating power output ( ) having an output frequency arranged to be variable within an output frequency range, the output having a first and a second output line. The lamps are connected in series with each other so that the first line is connected to the first electrode ( ) of the first of the lamps, the second electrode ( ) of the first of the lamps is connected to the first electrode ( ) of the next lamp in the series, the second electrode ( ) of the final lamp in the series being connected to the second output line. The lamps have an acoustic resonant frequency range and the output frequency range of the control is arranged to be above the acoustic resonant frequency range.

Driving serially connected high intensity discharge lamps

A lighting system ( ) having a high intensity discharge lamp ( ) mounted replaceably in a holder ( ) which connects to an electronic control ( ) which includes a variable frequency generator ( ), a joint operating circuit extends from the lamp to the control; the control is arranged to sweep over a predetermined range of frequencies to produce by means of a resonant circuit which includes in the circuit ( ) capacitance ( ) which is at least partly in or on the lamp. Removal of the lamp from the system prevents the production of the resonant high voltage ensuring improved safety.

Lighting system with a high intensity discharge lamp

An electronic control ( ) for a discharge lamp (D), which is arranged to be connected to a source of alternating current (L,N), having a source frequency, the control having a first and second terminal (J,K) for supplying an electrical power output to operate the lamp; a capacitor (T) is in series with the first terminal, having a capacitance sufficiently small to limit a current flow from the first terminal at the source frequency of less than 30 mA.

A lighting system ( ) having a high intensity discharge lamp ( ) and an electronic ballast having a variable frequency generator ( ) which is arranged to vary the frequency of the ballast output over a range of frequencies having a minimum frequency of 400 kHz; a reactance is included in a joint operating circuit ( ) in and between the ballast generator ( ) and lamp ( ) such that the circuit resonate to provide a starting voltage for the lamp at or above the minimum frequency. The arrangement inhibits lamp flickering and improves overall lamp and system efficiency.
