A device is described which allows simultaneous application of suction or vacuum for evacuation of fat with application of energy to the fat inside an opening in a cannula. A pair of electrodes is situated within the cavity of the cannula just under the surface of cannula tip opening(s) or as part of the walls of such openings. The electrodes are spaced to allow coagulation of fat entering the cannula. Irrigation may be applied in a continuous or discontinuous or intermittent stream within the cannula to cool the tip and facilitate removal of suctioned tissue and prevent buildup of debris on electrodes. A method for using the cannula to remove adipose tissue or fat destroyed by the energy application through the use of suction with mechanical motion of the cannula, with energy application and optionally with the use of irrigation is also disclosed.

Device for suction-assisted lipectomy and method of using same

A surgical device and method allows simultaneous application of suction or vacuum to body tissue and application of energy to the body tissue drawn into a cannula. The device may be inserted laparoscopically into the body, and operated to suck body tissue into the cannula, and heat or electrical energy may be applied to the tissue, and irrigation fluid may also be supplied to surrounding tissue to flush debris and cooling the surrounding tissue.

A device and method for creating an initial cavity in biological tissue within a given tissue type or layer and then expanding the initial cavity into a larger predetermined final cavity by using a dissecting propagating device to dissect the tissue along a plane defined by the initial cavity. The device and method may also produce the additional effect of immediate or delayed tissue expansion resulting in the production of additional tissue length to facilitate excision or to facilitate geometric rearrangement, advancement, excision or closure during surgical procedures. The expansion effect may relate to the dissected layer or an adjacent layer included in the tissue above, below or around the dissected cavity. The dissection method includes a tunneling step followed by a dissector device introduction step followed by an inflation, expansion, dissection step. The device and method of the present invention can be used to perform skin undermining in the subcutaneous fat layer for facelifting cosmetic surgery.
