A printer for creating specialty-sized prints where media is advanced through the printer along a media advancement path, the printer including a housing, a printing mechanism disposed in the housing and configured to place a desired print on the media, a cutter mechanism disposed in the housing adjacent the printing mechanism and configured to cut the media transverse to a media advancement direction through the cutter mechanism, and a slicing mechanism disposed in the housing adjacent the printing mechanism and configured to cut the media parallel to a media advancement direction through the slicing mechanism.

A method for creating photographic-quality prints and prints produced by these methods are disclosed. The prints generally comprise three layers: a transparent carrier; an image, and a particle-based undercoat. The transparent carrier comprises a substrate for receiving an image. The image can be produced by inkjet, electrostatic, or other imaging methods, including reverse printing methods. The particle-based undercoat layer is applied to the image containing side of the transparent carrier. Also disclosed is an apparatus for producing said prints by methods of the present invention.

Photographic-quality prints and methods for making the same

Throughput of ink jet printers can be increased by using multiple print heads, each of which independently prints an image or text on a continuous roll of print media. Independently controlled printer carriages supporting the print heads simultaneously print images onto media since the printer carriages are separated by a distance that is substantially to equal to at least one dimension of the image to be printed.

A printer for creating specialty-sized prints includes a printing mechanism, a cutter mechanism and a slicing mechanism. A media web or sheet is fed into the printer and is advanced by a media advancement mechanism in a media advancement direction. The cutter mechanism cuts the media transverse to the media advancement direction. The slicing mechanism slices the media parallel to the media advancement direction. The slicing mechanism includes a cam positioned on a camshaft and a slicer module. The slicer module is positioned adjacent the camshaft and includes a contact spring operatively spaced from the cam and a blade operatively spaced from the media. The media is sliced when an actuation mechanism rotates the camshaft so the cam pushes against the contact spring of the slicer module, which biases the blade against the media.

A method of printing includes coating a transfer sheet with a first ink component that has an ink thickener; and operating an ink jet printing apparatus to emit a second ink component onto the transfer sheet to form a thickened resulting ink in a selected pattern. The second ink component has a selected dye and a selected solvent in which the thickener is soluble.

Ink jet textile printing apparatus and method

A print head assembly that is removably mounted to a carriage. The print head assembly fits within a socket defined by the carriage. Exposed electrical leads in the socket and the print head assembly body are brought into contact when the assembly is inserted into the carriage socket.

The ink supply is contained in a manner that permits quick attachment to and removal from a base part of the pen that carries the print head. The system provides for several re-uses of the base and print head, and a pen recharging technique that can be carried out quickly, without spills, and without otherwise affecting the performance of the print head.

An ink pen is provided with a hydrophobic membrane to control the leakage of ink. The ink pen has a vent, such as a bubble generator, to allow the ingress of air into the ink reservoir and thereby regulate the backpressure within the reservoir. The hydrophobic membrane which allows the flow of air but prevents the flow of ink is positioned within the vent to control leakage of ink from the ink pen through the vent.
