A trolley for suspending and retaining the hooked ends of clothes hangers in a piece of luggage such as a garment bag includes gripping structures which contact the hooked ends of the hangers. The gripping structures incorporate an arrangement for creating a greater resistance against withdrawing the hanger ends from between the opposed gripping structures than for moving the hanger ends into the trolley. The effect is preferably established by a rib configuration integral with the gripping structures that creates a pawl-like resistance. The pawl-like resistance retains the hanger ends in the trolley and inhibits them from unintentional withdrawal from the trolley.

A handle assembly including a gripping handle, a pair of posts adapted for connection to a piece of luggage, and a cover unit is provided. Each of the posts includes a hole. Each of the posts is insertable into one of two slots formed in the gripping handle. The gripping handle includes openings. A locking pin is inserted into the openings and each post hole to connect the gripping handle to the posts. The cover unit is fixedly fitted over the locking pins so that the locking pins are substantially concealed from view.

Handle assembly

A locking trolley for gripping and locking the hooked ends of hangers in a garment bag includes a C-shaped frame member and a jaw member extending forward from the rear of the C-shaped frame member. Gripping pads for gripping the hooked ends of hangers are located between the lower horizontal portion of the C-shaped frame member and the jaw member. A locking arrangement operatively moves the jaw member toward the lower horizontal portion of the frame member to cause the gripping pads to grip the hanger ends and also locks the jaw member in the hanger gripping position. The locking arrangement preferably takes the form of a locking lever pivotably connected to the forward end of the jaw member. The locking lever pivots between the jaw member and the upper horizontal portion of the frame member to hold the jaw member in the locked position. To release the locked relationship the locking lever is grasped and pivoted between the jaw member and the upper horizontal portion of the frame member. A lip arrangement at the forward end of a gripping pad serves as an obstruction to the movement of the hangers from between the locked trolley. A predetermined structural configuration of the gripping pad increases the compressibility of the resilient gripping pads for better gripping flexibility around the hangers.

A locking trolley for gripping and locking the hooked ends of hangers in a garment bag includes a C-shaped frame member and a jaw member extending forward from the rear of the C-shaped frame member. Gripping pads for gripping the hooked ends of hangers are located between the lower horizontal portion of the C-shaped frame member and the jaw member. A locking arrangement operatively moves the jaw member toward the lower horizontal portion of the frame member to cause the gripping pads to grip the hanger ends and also locks the jaw member in the hanger gripping position. The locking lever pivots between the jaw member and the upper horizontal portion of the frame member to hold the jaw member in the locked position. The handle includes an elongated grip constructed of a compliant material such as a molded foam rubber or plastic and has a pair of longitudinally extending parallel grooves on an upper surface, one adjacent each of the grip sides. The grip is molded about an elongated rigid member which serves to reinforce the grip throughout its entire length. A half-shell metal frame generally U-shaped in cross-section, has side edges received in the grooves of the grip and otherwise fits about the grip covering the top and part of the lateral sides. Mounting stanchions are provided one for each end of the handle assembly and are affixed to the top surface of a luggage case, beauty case, or the like. Each stanchion includes a stub shaft which is pivotally received through an opening in an end portion of the half-shell frame and reinforcing member.

Carrying handle

The luggage case has a pair of wheels located at a lower back edge such that when the case rests on a flat surface, the wheels are held spaced from the floor surface. On lifting the case side opposite that including the wheels, the wheels are brought into rolling contact with the floor. A handle assembly is foldably received into the side wall opposite that including the wheels and can be selectively folded outwardly into a position for pulling or pushing, or, when not in use, folded into a receiving recess formed in the case side wall. A spring-loaded latch mechanism secures the handle within the recess during nonuse, and a finger release enables selective extension of the handle outwardly from the case wall for easy access when it is desired to move the case.
