A combination for retaining a solenoid valve assembly in position on a transmission housing comprises a protrusion on the housing and a resilient U-shaped clip. The protrusion has a cylindrical pocket to receive a portion of the solenoid assembly and a clip receiving slot which is perpendicular to the cylindrical axis of the pocket. The clip is substantially planar and holds the solenoid assembly in place by simultaneously engaging aligned slots in the protrusion and in the solenoid assembly. At the free ends of the U-shaped clip are inwardly extending toe portions which cause opposed arms of the clip to be flexed resiliently outwardly as the clip is inserted into or withdrawn from the aligned slots in the protrusion and in the solenoid assembly. Broad bladed legs intermediate the arms and toes enable the clip to withstand fluid pressure which tends to eject the solenoid assembly from the pocket.

Transmission solenoid retaining clip

A fuel injection fuel supply system for a combustion engine has a fuel injector valve assembly effective for metering and injecting metered fuel into the engine induction system; the valve assembly is shown having a plurality of reed-like valving members each of which is opened and closed in response to the energization and de-energization of an electrical field generating coil which is a part of the injector valve assembly.

Electromagnet and reed-type valve assembly

A solenoid actuated pressure control valve includes a solenoid coil having a central passage extending axially through the coil. An armature is movable axially within the coil passage to be magnetically attracted to the pole piece when the coil is energized. Fluid pressure at a supply port of the valve biases the armature to its opposite end limit of movement when the coil is deenergized. Various forms of valving arrangements are disclosed, in one of which valve heads are located on the opposite ends of the armature to engage either of opposed valve seats dependent on whether the coil is energized or not. In other arrangements, the armature engages a push rod to unseat one valve upon energization of the coil while closing a seond valve. The one valve is biased to its closed position by supply port pressure when the coil is deenergized, the push rod opening the other valve. The valves operate to connect a control port to a sump port when the coil is deenergized and to connect the control port to the supply port upon energization of the coil. One form of valve employs a diaphragm to hydraulically isolate the coil, pole piece and armature from the controlled fluid.

Solenoid operated pressure control valve

A purge valve for a vehicle mounted fuel vapor recovery system is made up of a main housing and two end caps which snap fit together to seal and mount a computer controlled solenoid valve and a diaphragm controlled regulating valve. The housing is designed so that the required valve seats are integrally molded in the housing as are the various internal passages and chambers. A compression post formed on one end cap seats the solenoid assembly firmly against an abutment surface on the housing.

Purge valve for on board fuel vapor recovery systems

A solenoid actuated three-way valve is formed with a central passage communicating at one end with a vent passage via a first valve seat and communicating at its opposite end with a pressure supply port via a second valve seat. A control port directly communicates with the central passage at all times. An armature is slidable within the passsage to block one of the valve seats while opening the other and is resiliently biased toward one seat by a compression spring and magnetically biased toward the other seat by energization of the solenoid coil. Flux washers at opposite ends of the coil contact a ferromagnetic casing to provide an efficient flux path enabling rapid response of the armature to coil energization. One valve seat is loccated at one end of a pole piece threadably adjustable within one of the flux washers to establish a working gap in the magnetic circuit of a minimum width of the valve. A relatively large return gap is provided to minimize frictional losses within the valve.

Solenoid actuated three-way valve

A valve employed in applications where the valve is rapidly cyclically opened and closed over extended periods of time is constructed in a manner such that the impact between a rapidly moving metal valve head and metal valve seat at valve closure is minimized to reduce noise and wear. The valve head engaging element of the valve seat may take the form of a frusto conical belleville washer located with its concave side resting on a flat planar wall surface in the valve housing or a flat washer bridging a frusto conical wall surface in the housing. Fluid filling the recess between the opposed surfaces of the washer and housing wall is expressed from the recess as the frusto conical washer is axially compressed against the wall by the closing valve head to further cushion or damp the resiliently resisted compression of the washer.

Cushioned valve seat

The present invention is an idle fluid flow shutoff assembly including a throttle body having a longitudinal axis with a throttle plate disposed transversely to the longitudinal axis. The throttle body includes a secondary passageway having an inlet and an outlet to allow fluid flow to bypass the throttle plate when in a closed position. A motor is secured to the throttle body and cooperates with the secondary passageway for allowing a predetermined amount of fluid flow through the outlet. A pressure-actuated valve is moveable in response to the absence and presence of a predetermined pressure level and cooperates with the secondary passageway for allowing a predetermined amount of fluid flow to the intake manifold when the amount of fluid flow past the motor is not within predetermined limits.

Idle air flow shutoff valve

A fuel metering apparatus is shown as having a throttle body with an induction passage therethrough and a throttle valve for controlling flow through the induction passage, a fuel-air mixture discharge member is situated generally in the induction passage downstream of the throttle valve, an air passage communicates between a source of air and the fuel-air mixture discharge member, the air passage is shown as also including a flow restrictor therein which provides for sonic flow therethrough, and a fuel metering valving assembly having a ball valve member is effective for metering liquid fuel as at a superatmospheric pressure and delivering such metered liquid fuel as into the air passage upstream of the flow restrictor thereby causing the thusly metered liquid fuel and air to pass through the sonic flow restrictor before being discharged into the induction passage by the fuel-air mixture discharge member, the ball valve member has a flattened surface against which an armature of a solenoid assembly operatively engages and through the action of at least one resilient member urges the ball valve member toward a seated condition.

Fuel injection apparatus and system

A fuel metering apparatus is shown as having a throttle body with an induction passage therethrough and a throttle valve for controlling flow through the induction passage, a fuel-air mixture discharge member is situated generally in the induction passage downstream of the throttle valve, an air passage communicates between a source of air and the fuel-air mixture discharge member, the air passage is shown as also including a flow restrictor therein which provides for sonic flow therethrough, and a fuel metering valving assembly having a ball valve member is effective for metering liquid fuel as at a superatmospheric pressure and delivering such metered liquid fuel as into the air passage upstream of the flow restrictor thereby causing the thusly metered liquid fuel and air to pass through the sonic flow restrictor before being discharged into the induction passage by the fuel-air mixture discharge member, the ball valve member at least partly receives at least one resilient member which urges the ball valve member toward a seated condition.

A fuel metering apparatus is shown as having a throttle body with an induction passage therethrough and a throttle valve for controlling flow through the induction passage, a fuel-air mixture discharge member is situated generally in the induction passage downstream of the throttle valve, an air passage communicates between a source of air and the fuel-air mixture discharge member, the air passage also includes a flow restrictor therein which provides for sonic flow therethrough, and a fuel metering valving assembly is effective for metering liquid fuel at a superatmospheric pressure and delivering such metered liquid fuel into the air passage upstream of the flow restrictor thereby causing the thusly metered liquid fuel and air to pass through the sonic flow restrictor before being discharged into the induction passage by the fuel-air mixture discharge member, the fuel-air mixture discharge member has a plurality of discharge ports spaced from each other and directed generally radially inwardly of the induction passage.
