Embodiments relate to customizing contents displayed at a sink device by converting received contents from a source device. The source device provides, to the sink device, the contents and display information of the source device. The display information of the source device may indicate spatial arrangements (e.g., locations and sizes) of the contents in the source device. The sink device may map sub-display regions of the source device to sub-display regions of the sink device. Moreover, the sink device generates output images for display in sub-display regions of the sink device according to the mapping. By mapping display regions at the sink device, images can be displayed in different arrangements at the sink device without the source device having any information on the configuration of sub-display regions of the sink device.

Displaying multiple videos on sink device using display information of source device

Embodiments of the invention are generally directed to a multi-view display system. An embodiment of an apparatus includes a display screen to display multiple views simultaneously, and a controller to control the views presented on the display screen. The apparatus is configurable by the controller to provide multiple view settings, the view settings including a first setting in which the apparatus provides a single view to each viewer of the display screen and a second setting in which the apparatus provides a first view to a first viewer of the display screen and a second view to a second viewer of the display screen. A first filtering element filters views presented to viewers of the display screen such that an intended view is displayed to one or more viewers.

Multi-view display system

A method and apparatus for delivering screen display data to existing display devices. Some embodiments of an apparatus include an interface to receive an input stream for a display device. The apparatus further includes a module to generate on screen display data for the display device. The apparatus includes a multiplexer, the multiplexer to multiplex the on screen display data into the input stream.

Delivering on screen display data to existing display devices

Embodiments of the invention are generally directed to de-encapsulation of data streams into multiple links. An embodiment of a method includes receiving a data stream including multiple data frames, the data stream being in a first mode having a multiple channels of content data including a first channel sent in a first position in each data frame and a second channel sent in a second position in each data frame following the first position, with each data frame including a synchronization signal to indicate a start of the content data. The method further includes transforming the data stream into data sub-streams in a second mode, the data sub-streams including a first data sub-stream to carry data for the first channel in the second mode and a second data sub-stream to carry data for the second channel in the second mode. Transforming the data stream into in the plurality of data sub-streams includes generating the first data sub-stream by stripping the second channel from each frame of data, and generating the second data sub-stream by stripping the first channel and the synchronization signal from each frame and inserting a substitute synchronization signal before the second channel data in each data frame. The method further includes transmitting the first data sub-stream via a first link in the second mode and the second data sub-stream via a second link in the second mode.

De-encapsulation of data streams into multiple links

An apparatus, system and method for detecting errors in a physical interface during the transmission or receipt of data communications between integrated circuits ('ICs') are disclosed. In one embodiment, a physical interface formed as a first IC on a first substrate portion to detect transmission errors in data exchanged with a second IC formed on a second substrate portion, the physical interface including multiple input ports and output ports, including a first subset of input ports configured to receive in-bound encoded data bits and a first subset of output ports configured to transmit in-bound decoded data bits to the second IC; and one or more error recovery modules coupled between the plurality of input ports and output ports, where a first error recovery module of the one or more error recovery modules is coupled between at least one of the first subset of input ports and at least one of the first subset of output ports.

Error detection in physical interfaces for point-to-point communications between integrated circuits

A method and apparatus are provided, the method and apparatus comprising running a plurality of identical programs on a plurality of identical computers and recording information about at least some state updates done within each of the plurality of the identical programs running on the plurality of the identical computers using a plurality of digests of the at least some state updates. The method and apparatus also comprises comparing the plurality of the digests to determine whether at least one of the plurality of the identical programs running on the plurality of the identical computers has failed.

Fault tolerance using digests

An apparatus, system and method for detecting errors in a physical interface during the transmission and/or receipt of data communications between integrated circuits ('ICs') are disclosed. In one embodiment, an apparatus for generating error-detection codes in a physical interface for the transmission of data communications between integrated circuits ('ICs') includes an N-bit-to-N+2-bit (&#x201c;N bit/(N+2) bit&#x201d;) physical layer (&#x201c;PHY&#x201d;) encoder configured to insert a physical interface error detection bit with N application data bits to form N+1 unencoded data bits, and encode said N+1 unencoded data bits to yield N+2 encoded data bits. The apparatus further includes an error-detection code generator configured to generate a number of bits constituting an error-detection code that includes said physical interface error detection bit, wherein N represents any integer number of data bits.

Embodiments of the invention are generally directed to operation of a media interface to provide bidirectional communications. An embodiment of a method includes connecting a first device to a second device via a media interface, the media interface including a communication channels for unidirectional data transmission, the media interface being in compliance with a media protocol. The method further provides for configuring the first device and the second device for bidirectional data transmission, the bidirectional data transmission being conducted according to a network protocol, and transmitting bidirectional data between the first device and the second device via the media interface.

Operation of media interface to provide bidirectional communications

An apparatus, system and method for detecting errors in a physical interface during the transmission and/or receipt of data communications between integrated circuits ('ICs') are disclosed. In one embodiment, an apparatus is configured to operate as or within a receiving physical interface. The apparatus includes a decoder configured to decode a subset of encoded data bits to yield decoded data bits. It also includes a physical interface ('PI') error detection bit extractor configured to extract a physical interface error detection bit from the decoded data bits. As such, the apparatus uses the physical interface error detection bit to determine whether the encoded data bits include at least one erroneous data bit as an error. In some embodiments, the apparatus includes an error detector configured to operate within a physical layer. In at least one embodiment, the apparatus efficiently transmits error detection codes within, for example, an NB/(N+1)B line coder.

The invention provides a central office metaphor to computing, where features and functions are provided by a one or more servers and communicated to an appliance terminal through a network. Data providers are defined as 'services' and are provided by one or more processing resources. The services communicate to display terminals through a network, such as Ethernet. The terminals are configured to display data, and to send keyboard, cursor, audio, and video data through the network to the processing server. Functionality is partitioned so that databases, server and graphical user interface functions are provided by the services, and human interface functionality is provided by the terminal. Communication with the terminals from various services is accomplished by converting disparate output to a common protocol. Appropriate drivers are provided for each service to allow protocol conversion. Multiple terminals are coupled to the network. Users can enable their unique session at any one of the terminals by inserting a 'smart card' into a card reader. Removing the card disables the session. Re-inserting the card into the same or any other terminal re-enables the session.

Computer architecture having a stateless human interface device and methods of use

Embodiments of the present invention are directed to a method and apparatus for hardware acceleration of display data clipping. In one embodiment, all display data is presented to the display system. The display system uses its hardware to clip the undesired data and display the desired data. In one embodiment, the display system has one or more clipping registers. As display data arrives from each source, the information's display location is classified by all the clipping registers. Only pixels which are calculated to be visible by the clipping registers is written to memory for later display. In one embodiment, the display system has an extra amount of memory, termed 'display mask memory.' In one embodiment, there is a corresponding data location in the display mask memory for each pixel in the display memory. In one embodiment, the display system has another set of memory, termed 'low-resolution display mask memory.' In yet another embodiment, the display data is presented to the display system from a server located away from the display system. The display data is presented via a network.

Hardware acceleration of display data clipping

A method and apparatus are provided, the method and apparatus comprising sending an output of a free-running counter to a comparator for a clock shaper logic unit, the free-running counter incremented every time a double-speed clock rises for an on-chip system and sending at least one input from a central processing unit (CPU) to the comparator for the clock shaper logic unit, the at least one input specifying a desired frequency. The method and apparatus also comprises producing a central processing unit (CPU) clock in the clock shaper logic unit based on the output of the free-running counter and the at least one input specifying the desired frequency by comparing a bit-reversed version of the output of the free-running counter with the at least one input specifying the desired frequency.

On-chip clock generator allowing rapid changes of on-chip clock frequency

A method and apparatus for decoding signals received from a network and distributing the decoded signals to multiple users. A bulk decoder coupled to a network decodes data received from the network and transmits the decoded data to an interconnect for distribution to a plurality of users. The number and type of bulk decoders may be adjusted in accordance with system load.

Shared decoder

Embodiments of the present invention are directed to a method and apparatus for hardware acceleration of clipping and graphical fill in display systems. In one embodiment, all display data is presented to the display system. The display system uses its hardware to clip the undesired data, if necessary, and display the desired data. If a sufficient amount of display data has the same value, the display system uses its hardware to fill the appropriate areas using the shared value. In one embodiment, the display system has one or more accelerating registers. In one embodiment, one or more accelerating registers are fill registers. As display data is read from memory, some of the information's color data is classified by the fill registers. In another embodiment, one or more accelerating registers are clipping registers. As display data arrives from each source, the information's display location is classified by the clipping registers.
