An ambidextrous magazine latch arrangement for a pistol in which a hand-operable cross lever is positioned by resilient means against a frame portion of the pistol handle with lever ends protruding on either side of the handle. The lever has a latch protrusion which protrudes into the magazine to hold the magazine. By applying hand pressure to either lever end the lever twists against the resilient means to withdraw the latch protrusion out of the magazine to release the magazine.

A rifle stock having its forearm, mid-stock and butt section comprised of a one piece plastic structural framework together with attached insert panels. The plastic framework is a lightweight readily moldable structure consisting of web walls having thicknesses, spacing and openings to facilitate such fabrication. Alternatively, the framework can be made of two or more framework elements fastened together. The framework has border recess areas for receiving panels of wood or other materials which panels are configured to fit into the recess areas and to be fastened to or urged against the framework recesses to strengthen the rifle stock and provide a more secure feel and pleasing appearance.

An ejector for automatic pistols having a reciprocating breech block, or slide, the ejector capable of being manually moved from an operating cartridge ejecting position to a disassembly position where it lowers a frame-mounted firing pin block and permits the slide to be disassembled by sliding forwardly. A slide latch arrangement permits the slide latch pivot axle to be held in a partially withdrawn mode during disassembly. When the pistol's magazine is in place, it holds the ejector in the operating position.

A trigger mechanism for firearms having a slide, a trigger and a trigger bar in which the trigger includes a cam section which is mounted for rotary movement in a frame recess housing. A spring biasing arrangement urges the trigger cam against frame recess surfaces and urges its trigger bar against the slide.

Over-and-under firearms of the break-open type have an upper barrel and a lower barrel secured together and pivotally mounted on the frame of the firearm. A top lever is rotatably mounted on the frame for retaining the barrels at their closed position when the top lever is at its barrel locking position and for releasing the barrels for rotation to their open position when the top lever is rotated to its barrel unlocking position. Upper and lower firing pins and springs are mounted for longitudinal movement on the frame, and upper and lower hammers and springs pivotally mounted on the frame. The spring loaded hammers press the firing pins forwardly when the hammers are at their forward or fired position so that the forward ends of the firing pins extend into the rearward ends of the upper and lower barrels. The top lever is provided with a hammer and firing pin retracting cam that is positioned to permit the lower hammer to contact and press the lower firing pin forwardly when the top lever is at its barrel locking position and to move the lower hammer and lower firing pin rearwardly when the top lever is rotated from its barrel locking position to its barrel unlocking position, thereby withdrawing the lower firing pin from the rearward end of the lower barrel.

A break-open type firearm having a frame, one or more barrels pivotally mounted on the frame, a barrel lock bolt for releasably locking the barrel at its closed position and a top lever for moving the barrel lock bolt from its barrel locking position to its barrel unlocking position is provided with novel means for retaining the top lever in the lever receiving opening of the frame. The top lever has a vertically elongated lock bolt operating crank that is rotatably received in the lever receiving opening of the frame, the operating crank having a spring strut receiving notch formed therein. The frame has a lever retaining shelf located in the lever receiving opening of the frame and a spring strut retaining shelf located below the lever receiving opening adjacent the upper end of the strut receiving notch of the operating crank. The lever retaining shelf has an operating crank passageway that permits the passage therethrough of the operating crank when the top lever is at its barrel locking position, the lever retaining shelf blocking upward movement of the operating crank and the top lever when the top lever is at its barrel unlocking position. The forward end of the top lever spring strut is received in the strut receiving notch of the operating crank, the strut retaining shelf blocking upward movement of the spring strut and the top lever when the top lever is at its barrel locking position.
