An inflatable vehicle safety device is provided that comprises an inflator, a fluid compartment, and a heat shield. The inflator is capable of providing an inflation fluid used to inflate the fluid compartment. The heat shield, which is located within the fluid compartment, comprises a fabric layer and a thermal barrier layer located adjacent to the fabric layer. The thermal barrier layer includes at least one layer of silicone elastomer and one or more silicone topcoats. The heat shield has a thermal resistance value of six seconds or more at 725&#xb0; C. when tested in a hot rod thermal resistivity test.

A multi part hydrosilylation curable silicone elastomer composition comprising (i) an organopolysiloxane comprising at least two unsaturated groups and having a viscosity of at least 1,000 mPas at 25&#xb0; C.; (ii) inorganic filler having a hydrophilic surface; (iii) a filler treating agent comprising an organopolysiloxane comprising at least 2 hydroxy or otherwise hydrolysable groups, or a mixture thereof and having an average degree of polymerization of from 2 to 50; (iv) an organohydrogensiloxane having an average of greater than two silicon bonded hydrogen atoms per molecule having a viscosity of up to about 10 PaS at 25&#xb0; C.; (v) a hydrosilylation catalyst; and/or a treated filler obtained by the reaction of (ii) and (iii) above characterized in that the filler treating agent (iii) and/or treated filler is packaged separately from organohydrogensiloxane (iv) prior to curing.

Preparation of silicone rubber elastomers

A cured silicone foam exhibiting high flame resistance and forming hard chars on burning, contains from about 1 to 60 percent by weight of wollastonite mineral, based on the weight of the composition. The silicone foam can be formed from any of the curable polyorganosiloxane foam-forming compositions known in the art. Preferred are those polyorganosiloxane foams cured using a platinum group metal catalyst. In a preferred composition the silicone foam is formed by curing a composition comprising a liquid polyorganosiloxane containing an average of at least two alkenyl radicals per molecule, an organohydrogensiloxane containing at least three silicon-bonded hydrogen atoms per molecule, a hydroxyl-containing compound, wollastonite, and a platinum catalyst.

What is disclosed herein relates to curable silicone compositions which provide high strength foams or elastomers. These foams or elastomers have high strength properties which are provided by a combination of non-resinous organopolysiloxanes as the base polymer. The high strength properties are better than the high strength properties of cured silicone compositions where only one non-resinous organopolysiloxane polymer type is employed. These compositions have the added benefit of being less expensive than resin based formulations.

Curable silicone compositions which are foams or elastomers

The addition of up to 40 percent by weight of a non-reactive liquid MQ resin to high viscosity liquid curable organosiloxane compositions that cure by a platinum group metal-catalyzed hydrosilation reaction reduces the viscosity of the composition and the moduli of cured elastomers prepared from said composition without any substantial adverse effect on the physical properties of the cured elastomers, particularly tensile strength, elongation and tear strength. Cured elastomers prepared using these compositions are particularly suitable for use as mold-making and encapsulating materials.
