A low insertion force contact terminal which has a conductor mating portion, a securing portion and a substrate mating portion. The conductor mating portion is configured to terminate a conductor therein. The securing portion is configured to secure the terminal in a terminal receiving cavity of a housing. The substrate mating portion extends from the securing portion. The substrate mating portion has at least two sections which have curved portions thereon. At least one embossment is provided on a first section of the at least two sections or a second section of the at least two sections. The curved portions of the at least two sections move independently, which allows the curved portions to exert a low normal force on walls of through holes of a substrate to which the contact terminal is mated. The low normal force is sufficient to provide a stable electrical connection.

Low insertion force contact terminal

A low insertion force contact terminal which has a conductor mating portion, a securing portion and a substrate mating portion. The conductor mating portion is configured to terminate a conductor therein. The securing portion is configured to secure the terminal in a terminal receiving cavity of a housing. The substrate mating portion extends from the securing portion. The substrate mating portion has at least two sections which have curved portions thereon. The at least two sections move independently, which allows the curved portions to exert a normal force on walls of through holes of a substrate to which the contact terminal is mated which is sufficient to provide a stable electrical connection while allowing for a low insertion force.

A connector assembly includes an insertion member that includes a plurality of contact pads, and a housing that defines an opening at a first end configured to receive the insertion member. The upper inside surface and the lower inside surface of the housing define a group of slots. Electrical contacts are positioned adjacent to one another in the slots of the housing. Each electrical contact includes a cross-member, and a first and a second extension member that extend from respective ends of the cross member. At least one of the first and second extensions is configured as a resilient member configured to make electrical contact with a contact pad of the insertion member. A mating extension extends from the cross-member and through an opening defined in the rear wall of the housing.

Connector assembly

A connector assembly includes an insertion member that includes a plurality of contact pads, and a housing that defines an opening at a first end configured to receive the insertion member. The upper inside surface and lower inside surface of the housing define a plurality of slots into which are placed electrical contacts. Each electrical contact includes a cross-member, a first and a second extension member, a resilient member, and a mating extension. The first and second extension members extend from respective ends of the cross-member and are positioned within respective slots of the housing. The resilient member extends from the cross member from a position between the first and the second extension members. A mating extension extends from the other side of the cross-member and through an opening defined in the rear wall of the housing. The resilient member is configured to make electrical contact with a contact pad of the insertion member.

A generally circular plug and receptacle connector system for use with electronic systems and devices is provided. This system includes: a plug component and a receptacle component. The plug component further includes: a housing having an internal channel formed therein for receiving a length of stripped wire; a shielded conduit attached to the housing, wherein the shielded conduit further includes a chamber formed therein; a plug body disposed within the shielded chamber; and a plurality of conductive pins disposed within the plug body, wherein the conductive pins are adapted on one end to be coupled with the length of stripped wire. The receptacle component further includes: a housing having a shielded chamber formed therein; a flanged member disposed within the housing for connecting to the plug component; a receptacle body disposed with within the shielded chamber; and a plurality of conductive sockets disposed within the receptacle body, wherein the conductive sockets of the receptacle component are adapted to mate with the conductive pins of the plug component.

Miniature circular connector system

A rotationally adjustable connector assembly is disclosed. The connector assembly includes a connector housing, a base and a latch connected to the connector housing and the base. The latch is connected at a fixed position with respect to the connector housing. The base is co-axial with the latch, the base and the latch being configured to permit the base to rotate about the latch, such that the base is thereby rotationally adjustable with respect to the connector housing.

Rotationally adjustable connector assembly

An electrical connector having a mechanical mating cycle limitation that renders the connector inoperable after a predetermined number of mating cycles is disclosed. The electrical connector includes a rotating component that rotates within the connector for the predetermined number of mating cycles until the rotating component is prohibited from further rotation, which prevents the connector from further mating, thereby rendering the connector inoperable.

A low profile connector assembly comprises at least one contact having a surface mount portion and a wire engagement portion extending from the surface mount portion, and a housing insertable over the at least one contact and retained to the at least one contact. The housing encloses the wire engagement portion and has a wire receiving aperture therethrough. The wire receiving aperture provides access to the wire engagement portion when the housing is retained to the contact.

Low profile surface mount connector

A board to board interconnection is provided for interconnection of parallel stacked printed circuit boards, with a like array of plated through holes on each of the boards. One connector assembly is insertable from the outside of one of the stacked printed circuit boards, and another electrical connector assembly is insertable from the opposite side of the stacked parallel boards. One of the connector assemblies includes a compliant portion connectible with a plated through hole and including a socket contact. The other connector includes terminals with compliant portions for interconnection with the other board, and includes a pin terminal extending from the compliant portion which is insertable through the printed circuit boards and into interconnection with the socket of the other electrical connector assembly.

Printed circuit board stacking connector with separable interface

An electrical connector is provided that includes a plurality of contacts having cable engaging ends that are configured to engage respective conductors in corresponding cables. The electrical connector includes a housing that holds the contacts parallel to one another and spaced apart at a predetermined pitch. A cover is mounted on the housing proximate the contacts and is movable between initial and final positions with respect to the housing. The cover has a cavity therein that is configured to receive and align the cables at the predetermined pitch with respect to one another. The cover includes a series of passages there through that align with the cable engaging ends of the contacts such that, when the cover is moved to the final position, the cable engaging ends of the contacts extend through the passages into the cavity to pierce the corresponding cables and engage corresponding conductors. Optionally, the cover may include a solid top wall without passages therethrough. The cavity may include ribs aligned with each cable.

Electrical connector having a cover for registering cables with contacts

An electrical connector is shown for stacking a plurality of printed circuit boards one above the other, where some of the terminals extending from the lower portion of the housing include both printed circuit board contacts as well as mating contacts for the next adjacent connector. The connector housing includes integral stand-offs for maintaining the parallel nature of the stacked boards, as well as a precise spacing between the boards. The connector housings can include stand-off members which are frangible and can be used to maintain the parallel nature of the boards when other connector housings of a similar height are not used.

Printed circuit board connector

An alignment tool (44) is disclosed for aligning the conductors of a ribbon cable (12) to insulation displacement contacts (162, 168, 172) of a connector (16, 18, 14) during termination of the connector to the cable. The tool includes a body (46) having a fluted cable guiding surface (72, 74) and first and second connector receiving cutouts (66, 68) on opposite sides of the guide surface. A retaining plate (112) is hingedly attached to the body (46) and is arranged to releasable hold the ribbon cable (12) in located engagement with the fluted guide surface (72, 74). The retaining plate (112) enables the ribbon cable (12) to move longitudinally to position it for termination of a connector (14, 16, 18) without loosening the retaining plate (112) and without disturbing the alignment of the ribbon cable.

Tool for aligning a ribbon cable to a connector

A gull-wing strain relief (10) for a flat multi-conductor ribbon cable (30) exiting a connector assembly (20). The gull-wing strain relief (10) is mounted directly on the connector assembly (20) and includes lateral flaps (14) which close around the connector assembly (20). The flaps (14) may be interlocked in a fully closed position wherein the ribbon cable (30) exiting the connector assembly (20) is held in compression to thereby protect against strain from twisting or pulling.

Gull-wing strain relief

A connector assembly (10) having an all plastic retention system has a housing (16, 18) in which tines (40) extend from a surface (36) thereof axially along contact receiving passages (38, 58). Each split frustoconical tine (40) has two tine members (42, 44). A transverse rib (54) extends along a surface (36) of the housing between adjacent tine members (42, 44) of adjacent tines (40). Each tine member (42, 44) has a pair of vertical ribs (50) extending along the exterior surface thereof upward from the surface (36) of the housing and sharing a portion of its volume with the transverse rib (54). The vertical ribs (50) and transverse rib (54) promote flow of plastic into all regions of the mould during moulding and support a contact (52) upon insertion thereof. A contact (52) inserted from the rear face (34) causes tine members (42, 44) to move radially outward until a retention bead (72) passes through an orifice (48) then tine members (42, 44) return to an unbiased position and contact (52) is secured in the connector assembly (10) as retention bead (68) is positioned between an annular shoulder (74) and the ends (46) of tine members (42, 44).
