A method of treating a superalloy article, including selecting an article having a superalloy composition, whereby the article has a treatable feature on its surface. The method further includes removing a base alloy from a region abutting a first portion of the treatable feature. The method further includes treating a second portion of the treatable feature with a treatment composition to remove surface oxides. The method further includes inserting a treatment material into the first portion of the treatable feature followed by depositing the base alloy in the first portion of the treatable feature. The method further includes heat treating the article at a temperature above the melting point of the treatment material whereby the treatment material flows into the second portion of the treatable feature forming a treated article.

Method of treating superalloy articles

A fixture and method for resistance welding of at least one pad to at least one surface of an article is disclosed. The method includes mounting the article in the fixture, placing the at least one pad on the at least one surface of the article, positioning a first electrode of a resistance welding apparatus to the at least one pad and a second electrode of the resistance welding apparatus to the article, and applying pressure and electric current across the at least one pad and the at least one surface. The fixture includes a first, second and third support element, which, respectively, include a first, second and third contact surface being adapted and disposed to support a first, second and third portion of the article. The first, second and third contact surfaces are each inelastic and electrically insulating. The fixture is arranged and disposed to non-rotatably cradle the article.

A method of repairing an oxidized defect in a superalloy article includes removing substantially all of the oxidized defect to form a cleaned out portion of the superalloy article; filling a portion of the cleaned out portion with a weld by fusion welding; cracking the weld; and filling the cracked weld and a remaining portion of the cleaned out portion with a braze material.

Brazing is then performed on nonporous surfaces of the porous materials. This method provides effective braze joints in porous material while avoiding the introduction of any foreign matter into the structure.
