A mineral insulated heating cable for a heat tracing system. The heating cable includes a sheath having at least a first, and optionally a second layer, wherein the thermal conductivity of the second layer is greater than a thermal conductivity of the first layer. In addition, the first and second layers are in intimate thermal contact. The heating cable also includes at least one heating conductor for generating heat and a dielectric layer located within the sheath for electrically insulating the heating conductor, wherein the sheath, heating conductor and dielectric layer form a heating section. In addition, the heating cable includes a conduit for receiving the heating section. Further, the heating cable includes a cold lead section and a hot-cold joint for connecting the heating and cold lead sections. In addition, a high emissivity coating may be formed on the first layer.

Mineral insulated cable having reduced sheath temperature

A mineral insulated heating cable for a heat tracing system. The heating cable includes a sheath having at least a first, and optionally a second layer, wherein the thermal conductivity of the second layer is greater than a thermal conductivity of the first layer. In addition, the first and second layers are in intimate thermal contact. An electrical cable device such as a heating cable includes a braidless ground return layer surrounding an inner jacket. The ground return layer is formed by a conductive polymer and a ground return wire connected to the conductive polymer. The polymer may be made suitably conductive for ground fault detection by addition of a particulate conductive filler such as carbon black, carbon fibers, or a blend thereof.

Gripping members and pre-gripping members project from the interior surfaces of the arms of the insert and act to grip a cable when it is inserted into the device. A locking mechanism on the insert engages locking teeth on the housing and serves to hold the insert in position. A conformable gel component may be present. The apparatus provides high pullout force, as well as environmental sealing, for cables such as electrical heating cables or power cables.

The invention is a remotely thermally activatable device for delivering a payload to a pre-determined location within a pipe comprising a carrier means for supporting the payload, a driver means to axially move the carrier means, and a thermally activatable trigger means connected to the driver means to actuate the driver means. In operation, the device and payload may be placed in a location within a pipe, for example, near the end of a pipe to be welded to an adjoining pipe. Subsequent to such welding, the instant invention may be remotely activated by outside heating of the pipeline in the vicinity of the device, thereby causing the device to move the payload to the pipe weld.
