Various examples are directed to isolated analog-to-digital converter (ADC) circuits comprising a first side that is separated from a second side by an isolator. A first ADC positioned on the first side may be configured to convert a first analog input signal to a first side multi-bit digital signal. A digital modulator on the first side may be configured to convert the first side multi-bit digital signal to a first single-bit stream. A first filter positioned on the second side may be configured to receive the first single-bit stream across the first isolator and to generate a first reconstructed multi-bit digital signal using the first single-bit stream.

Digital modulation scheme for data transfer

Data isolators for providing isolation between two ports that enable dynamic communication are described. The dynamic communication may be achieved by varying a ratio of the data rate relative to a clock frequency of a clock signal. The data isolator may include a first circuit that transmits data across an isolation barrier when the clock signal is in a first state and a second circuit that transmits data across the isolation barrier when the clock signal is in a second state. The clock frequency may be variable and, as a result, change the duration of data transmissions in a given clock cycle. For example, the clock frequency may be reduced to increase the number of bits transmitted per clock cycle and, conversely, increased to reduce the number of bits transmitted per clock cycle. Thus, the number of bits transmitted per clock cycle may be adjusted to suit the situation.

Bi-directional data isolator with dynamic communication

Embodiments of the present invention may provide a system with a first and second circuit system separated by an electrical isolation barrier but provided in communication by at least one isolator device that bridges the isolation barrier. The first circuit system may include a communication system to transmit data across a common isolator device as a series of pulses, and the second circuit system may receive the series of pulses corresponding to the data. The second circuit system may include a detector coupled to the common isolator device to detect the received pulses, a oneshot to frame the received pulse(s), and a controller to reconstruct the data based on accumulated framed pulse(s). Therefore, noise induced spurious pulses outside the oneshot intervals may be ignored by the second circuit system providing improved noise immunity.

Isolated system data communication

The present invention may provide a system including a controller and a plurality of integrated circuits. The controller may control synchronization operations of the system, the controller may include a master timing counter and a controller data interface. Each integrated circuit may include a timing counter and an IC data interface. Further, each integrated circuit may synchronize its respective timing counter based on synchronization command received from the controller via the data interfaces. Hence, the system may provide synchronization between the controller and the integrated circuits without an extraneous designated pin(s) for a designated common time-based signal.

A system and method is disclosed for minimizing power consumption of a sensor unit that is capable of detecting an object. Main circuitry operates the sensor unit in a high power mode of operation when the sensor unit detects an object. Low power control circuitry operates the sensor unit in a low power mode of operation when the sensor unit does not detect an object within a pre-determined period of time. The low power control circuitry also comprises a counter to periodically determine when to restore the sensor unit to a high power mode of operation. One advantageous embodiment of the sensor unit is a fingerprint sensor unit for detecting a finger to obtain fingerprint information.
