A water base hydraulic fluid is disclosed. The fluid comprises 40 wt % of an amphoteric surfactant of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R is a mixture C.sub.12 alkyl groups and 10 wt % polypropylene glycol in water. The diluted hydraulic fluid is noted for its good wear characteristics, anticorrosiveness and non foaming nature.

Described herein is an extreme pressure turbine lubricant exhibiting improved vapor space rust protection, oxidation stability and air release properties comprising synthetically derived triarylphosphates, benzotriazole, a 2,6-di-t-butylphenol as antioxidant, a phenol-free anti-rust concentrate and caprylic or capric acid.

Turbine lubricant

Disclosed is a process for separating unreacted olefins, paraffins, aldehydes and alcohols from the catalyst and heavy ends from the hydroformylation process by using thin film distillation. In this process, the crude oxo product is metered into a thin film evaporator wherein the distillate containing olefins, paraffins, aldehydes and alcohols is rapidly separated by a continuous wiping action from the residue which contains the catalyst complex and the heavy ends. The various products are fractionated while the residue is directly recycled.

Hydroformylation

Reductive amination of C.sub.10 -C.sub.26 dialkyl internal ketones, with secondary amines, using a supported nickel catalyst, results in the production of tertiary amines in excellent yield.

Preparation of tertiary amines

A catalytic process for preparing novel hydrocarbonaceous polymeric compounds by contacting a first hydrocarbonaceous compound with a second hydrocarbonaceous compound in the presence of a basic nitrogen catalyst in the substantial absence of water. The novel polymeric type materials provided by the process are useful as nonionic surfactants, as biodegradable detergents, as chemical intermediates in the production of anionic detergents, as lubricating oil additives, and as anti-rust and anti-icing additives in fuels.

Catalytic process

This invention concerns a process for purifying crude oximes, particularly crude n-paraffinone oximes containing carbonyl and/or chlorine contaminants, consisting essentially of treating said crude oximes with urea or thiourea, in the presence of water and lower alkanol, heating to decompose thermally unstable contaminants, filtering off the insoluble urea (or thiourea) carbonyl complexes formed, leaving a purified oxime which can be further purified by conventional purification methods such as vacuum distillation.

Purification process

A process for producing secondary alkyl primary amines having from 10 to 50 or, from about 10 to about 13, or from about 14 to 50 carbon atoms from crude n-paraffin oximes derived by the photonitrosation of C.sub.10 to C.sub.50 or C.sub.10 to C.sub.13 or C.sub.14 to C.sub.50 n-paraffins, said process comprising hydrogenation in a polar solvent in the presence of ammonia and a metal catalyst. The crude n-paraffin oximes are contaminated with ketones and nitroso halides. By the process of this invention, these impurities are likewise converted into the corresponding secondary alkyl primary amines.

Described herein is a lubricating composition exhibiting vapor space rust protection, improved oxidation stability and air release properties comprising a mineral lubricating oil containing from 0.02 to 3.0 weight percent vapor space rust inhibitor such as a C.sub.8 -C.sub.10 aliphatic carboxylic acid; 0.001 to 0.3 wt % substituted heterocyclic antioxidant such as benzotriazole; 0.05 to 1.0 wt % of a rust inhibitor such as alkyl-succinic acid/alkyl acid phosphate/phenol; 0.001 to 0.500 wt % polymeric antifoamant such as a polyacrylate; 0.01 to 5.0 wt % of an aryl phosphate such as tricresylphosphate; and 0.01 to 2.00 wt % of a hindered alkyl phenol antioxidant such as 4-methyl-2, 6-di-t-butylphenol.
