The present invention relates to a composition being an aqueous dispersion of a polyurethane in water, said composition comprising water and the reaction product of (a) a water-dispersible isocyanate-terminated polyurethane prepolymer having an isocyanate content of between 1 and 15% by weight. The prepolymer comprises the following: an organic polyisocyanate adduct mixture having an average isocyanate functionality of between 2.0 and 4.0, and (b) an isocyanate reactive chain extender having a specified ratio of isocyanate reactive moiety to isocyanate index of the polyisocyanate adduct mixture. The polyisocyanate mixture must contain some dimer; however, other polyisocyanates, such as diisocyanates and polyisocyanate trimers, are advantageously added to the mixture. Also disclosed is a process for preparing this composition, and a method for coating a substrate with the composition.

A process for preparing isocyanate adducts having a high proportion of monoisocyanurate using a quaternary ammonium carboxylate trimerization catalyst. Also claimed are specific carboxylate catalysts, together with a process for producing the catalysts. This invention relates to a process for preparing a dimer by the steps of: (a) cyclodimerizing a polyisocyanate in the presence of a dimerization catalyst which is covalently bound to an insoluble inorganic matrix by contacting said polyisocyanate with said catalyst at a temperature of between about 20 and about 135.degree. C. in a reaction to form an uretidione-containing cyclodimerized isocyanate wherein a portion of the isocyanate moieties comprising said polyisocyanate are converted to uretidione groups, and (b) separating said catalyst from said cyclodimerized isocyanate in order to stop said reaction after a desired amount of isocyanate moieties in said polyisocyanate have been converted to uretidione moieties.

This invention relates to a process for producing a moisture curable silyl-terminated polymer which comprises the steps of: (a) reacting a terminally-unsaturated monol (preferably a polyether or polyester monol) with a polyfunctional hydroxyl-reactive compound selected from the group consisting of polyisocyanates and organic polacyl compounds in a molar ratio of one mole of monol for each equivalent of functionality on said polyfunctional hydroxyl-reactive moiety, to provide a terminally-unsaturated polymer having terminal unsaturation at each end thereof; and (b) reacting said terminally-unsaturated polymer with a dialkoxyalkylsilane to form a dialkoxyalkylsilyl-terminated polymer capable of curing upon contact with moisture.

The present invention relates to a process for removing double metal cyanide complex catalyst residue(s) from polyol(s) which comprises after polyol formation the steps of: (a) contacting the catalyst residue-containing polyol with an effective amount of an oxidant to cause said residue(s) to form insoluble residues that are insoluble in the polyol, and (b) separating the insoluble residues from the polyol.
