A dilation system includes a handle, a guide member, a balloon dilation member, an actuator, and an endoscope. The handle is configured to provide single-handed use to a user. The guide member is coupled with a distal end of the handle and extends distally therefrom. The balloon dilation member is slidably disposed within the body and the guide member and includes an expandable balloon. The actuator is configured to translate and/or rotate to thereby cause translation and/or rotation of the balloon dilation member. The handle may include a guide member actuator configured to cause translation of the guide member. The handle may further include a rotation mechanism configured to impart rotation upon the guide member. The handle may also include a housing configured to receive and selectively retain the endoscope. The housing is configured to translate and/or rotate to thereby cause translation and/or rotation of the endoscope.

A method for cleaning an isthmus of a Eustachian tube (ET) of a patient includes using an instrument. The instrument includes a proximal portion, a distal portion, and a shaft extending therebetween, and a treatment feature disposed at the distal portion. The method includes directing the instrument into an oro-nasal cavity of the patient and advancing at least the distal portion of the instrument into an opening of the ET. The method further includes further advancing the instrument within the ET so that the treatment feature is disposed past, or is coincident with, the isthmus. The method further includes moving the treatment feature relative to the isthmus to clean the isthmus.

Method and apparatus for cleaning isthmus of eustachian tube

A dilation system includes a handle, guide member, balloon dilation member, balloon, dilation member movement actuator, and endoscope. The handle is configured to provide single-handed use to a user. The handle includes a first and second body member pivotably coupled together such that the first body member and the second body member are configured to pivot toward and away from one another. The handle includes a rotation mechanism configured to impart rotation upon the guide member. The handle further includes a locking feature configured to lock endoscope in position relative to the handle. The handle may further include a rotation limiting feature configured to limit rotation of the guide member and or the body members. The dilation member movement actuator is configured to translate to thereby cause translation of the balloon dilation member. One or more components of the dilation system may include a plurality of measure markings.

Apparatus and method for treating disorders of the ear, nose and throat

The disclosure pertains to a medical device deployment system comprising a restraint member which holds the embolic protection filter in a restrained, or partially collapsed, state for insertion into a lumen and transit to a desired deployment site. The restraint member comprises two or more portions which differ in their mechanical ability to resist the radial forces exerted by various portions of the medical device when it is in a restrained, or partially collapsed, state. The restraint member is maintained in a restraint configuration by an actuation member which engages portions of the restraint member lying on opposite sides of a generally axial gap until deployment of the medical device is desired. Withdrawal of the actuation member allows the restraint member to release the medical device which may then return to a deployed state. The invention also provides a method for assembling a medical device deployment system.

The filter wire may include a proximal section and a distal section. The proximal and distal sections may be coupled with a connector.

Embolic protection filtering device

An intravascular filter assembly is disclosed for fragmenting a thrombotic or atherosclerotic occlusion and capturing thrombotic or atherosclerotic debris within a blood vessel. The intravascular filter assembly includes an elongate shaft and an expandable filter coupled to the distal region of the elongate shaft. One or more piezoelectric elements are secured to the elongate shaft at a location proximal of the expandable filter. A conducting wire is attached to the one or more piezoelectric elements and extends toward the proximal end of the elongate shaft. The one or more piezoelectric elements are configured to generate ultrasonic waves when subjected to an electrical voltage to fragment a thrombotic or atherosclerotic occlusion within a blood vessel.

An embolic protection filtering device and methods and making and using filtering devices. An example filtering device may include an elongate shaft or filter wire, a filter coupled to the filter wire, and a sheath. The methods for using the filtering device include using an introducer member to help back load a guidewire into the sheath and then advance the filtering device along the guidewire to a target region.

An imaging catheter which is constructed to be inserted into a guiding catheter having a small outer diameter, such as 5 French, such that a standard guidewire and imaging catheter are simultaneously translatable through a lumen of the guiding catheter. The imaging catheter includes an elongated tubular member and a cover tube made from materials which allow the outer diameter of the imaging catheter to be reduced sufficiently to fit within the small guiding catheter without sacrificing imaging quality.

An improvement including a reconfiguration of the ferrites in the hub assembly, such that the need for the gap between the ferrites is removed. A strain relief member is provide to increase the strength of the electrical transmission lines to enable them to withstand the tensile forces caused by either flushing and/or pull-back operations. A device which allows the electrical transmission lines to extend their length when placed in tension may also be employed to provide strain relief to the electrical transmission lines. Another improvement includes a counter-wound coil structure, which may either expand or contract as the drive cable is being rotated to strengthen the drive cable. The distal tip of the catheter body may be redesigned to provide a lumen which allows for the release of flushing fluids through a distal port in the guidewire lumen.

System and method for intraluminal imaging

An intravascular imaging guidewire is provided that can accomplish longitudinal translation of an imaging plane allowing imaging of an axial length of a region of interest without moving the guidewire. The imaging guidewire comprises a body in the form of a flexible elongate tubular member. An elongate flexible imaging core is slidably received within the body. The imaging core includes a shaft having an imaging device mounted on its distal end. The body and the imaging core are cooperatively constructed to enable axial translation of the imaging core and imaging device relative to the body. The body has a substantially transparent portion extending an axial length over which axially translatable imaging may be performed. The imaging guidewire has a maximum diameter over its entire length sized to be received within a guidewire lumen of an intravascular catheter.
