A system and methods for comparing two documents comprising graphic elements is described. Attributes of graphic elements amongst the two documents are examined to identify sufficiently similar graphic elements. A merged document can be automatically produced based on the comparison. The merged document advantageously preserves the investment made in modifying a first document during a production phase. A means for viewing the comparison results and overriding the automatically generated merge actions is provided.

Systems and methods for comparing documents containing graphic elements

A system and methods for comparing a plurality of documents comprising graphic elements is described. Attributes of graphic elements amongst the documents are examined to identify sufficiently similar graphic elements. A merged document can be automatically produced based on the comparison. Graphic elements in the resulting document may be associated with a document layer. Methods may advantageously be applied to a plurality of documents representing different versions of a document.

Systems and methods for processing existing layouts of content comprising common and variant content are described. They involve automatically converting content into a layered version document, checking variant content for conditions which could have an undesirable impact on a rendered image, and automatically modifying variant content to reduce the potential for undesirable impacts on a rendered image.

A system and methods for comparing graphic elements in a changed document to those in a reference document is described. Attributes of selected graphic elements are first adjusted before comparing so that comparing does not identify certain document changes.

The present invention provides a distributed computing system and method for efficiently utilizing system resources with a variable width queue to handle resource contention. The present invention varies the width of the queue of active tasks such that as a resource becomes idle, a new tasks is added to the queue thereby incrementing the width of the queue and fully utilizing system resources.
