A cable includes a conductor. A plurality of inner armor wires is wrapped around the conductor. At least some of the plurality of inner armor wires have non-circular and non-rectangular cross-sectional shapes. A plurality of outer armor wires are wrapped around the inner armor wires. At least some of the plurality of outer armor wires have non-circular and non-rectangular cross-sectional shapes.

Smooth wireline

Downhole cables are described that are configured to protect internal structures that may be detrimentally impacted by exposure to the downhole environment, by protecting such structures by at least two protective layers. In some examples, the structures to be protected may be housed in a protective tube housed within the protective outer sheath. The described configuration enables the use of structures such as polymer fibers in the cables for strength and load-bearing capability by protecting the fibers, by multiple protective layers, from exposure to gases or fluids within a wellbore.

Downhole cable

A hydraulic jarring tool may be suspended in a well from a wireline, tubular string or drill string, and may be activated to release a tool stuck in the well, or to release the drill string. Each of an upper and lower jarring section include a housing, a piston, a piston biasing member, a fluid metering device and a release mechanism for holding an hammer in a downward position and releasing the hammer to strike an anvil in response to movement of the piston. A timing mechanism results in a timed delay between the impact of one hammer striking the anvil and the other hammer striking the anvil.

Multiple impact jar assembly and method

A device and method for retrieving a tool string from downhole locations through the use of one or more engagement sensors. The one or more engagement sensors are activated by the tool string engaging an overshot device. The one or more engagement sensor may be mechanical, electric, or magnetic and may be located at various locations on the overshot device, the tool string, or both. Additionally, any number of engagement sensors may be used at the same time.

Positive engagement indicator for wireline fishing operations

A downhole tool system comprising a side entry sub comprising a side entry adapted to receive a wireline, a cutting sub comprising a cutting apparatus, a cable head adapted to connect a downhole tool to the cutting sub, and a release releasably connecting the wireline to the cable head, the cutting apparatus adapted to cut the wireline. The downhole tool system is conveyed downhole on a pipe string to perform downhole operations. If lodged, the wireline may be released and removed from the downhole tool system such that fishing operations may be performed to retrieve the remaining portions of the downhole tool system. If lodged, the pipe string may also be released or removed from the downhole tool system such that fishing operations may be performed to retrieve the remaining portions of the downhole tool system.
