A jump monocomponent development arrangement includes a dielectric photoreceptor belt having an image-bearing surface for receiving an electrostatic charge image and a development station having a supply of toner particles with a mean diameter in a range from 8 microns to 14 microns and including large and small additive particles having mean diameters in size ranges of 6 to 12 nm and 20 to 50 nm, respectively, and in amounts sufficient to provide surface coverage of the toner particles in ranges from about 5 percent to about 50 percent and about 50 percent to about 150 percent, respectively.

Monocomponent developing arrangement for electrophotography

The present invention is directed to a non-contact, single-component developing system for electrophotographic machines that effectively reduces the impact of adhesion forces on the development process. The developing system of the present invention utilizes a single-component toner that tends to reduce the adhesion forces that hold the toner particles on a toner support member. Preferably, the toner is combined with large and small silica particles having a concentration by weight that results in an optimum surface coverage of toner particles by large and small silica particles that facilitates a reduction in the adhesion forces holding the toner particles on the toner support member.

Method of using variably sized coating particles in a mono component developing system

A jump monocomponent development arrangement includes a dielectric photoreceptor belt having an image-bearing surface on one side and a conductive surface on the other side with a thickness in the range from 30 microns to 50 microns and an electrostatic charge image on the image-bearing surface has a contrast potential of 1000 to 2000 volts. Toner particles with an average diameter in the range from one micron to 20 microns are transferred from a developer roll to the electrostatic charge image using a bias potential in the range from 500 volts to 1500 volts across a development gap in the range from 100 microns to 500 microns. The difference between the maximum development voltage and the threshold development voltage is less than the contrast potential.

Jump monocomponent development arrangement

The invention relates to an ambient light electrophoretic display comprising a plurality of cells containing a suspension of charged pigment particles in a light-transmissive fluid. Each cell comprises a light-transmissive front window, a nonobstructing collecting electrode and counter electrode disposed in the cell, and a panel having a reflective or absorbing surface.

It has been determined that the two systems that contribute to edge raggedness in producing electrophotographic images are the development and transfer systems. Conventional development systems cause wrong sign toner to be attracted to the edges of the formed characters. Conventional transfer systems utilize electrostatic transfer whereby large electric fields are applied across a small air gap. In order to reduce edge raggedness, wrong sign toner is eliminated during the development step by using tribolelectrically charged toner and electrostatic transfer is replaced with non-electrostatic transfer techniques, either thermal or pressure, or combinations thereof. In either event, the resistivity of the intermediate surface is preferably 10.sup.10 ohm-cm or lower. Significantly improved electrophotographic images result.

Method for reducing high quality electrophotographic images

Conductive patterns are formed on a surface and via connections through a lamina or substrate are formed by directly writing an electrostatic charge pattern on a surface of the lamina and developing the written pattern by application of conductive particles thereto, preferably in a liquid suspension of particulate material including a binder and/or a charge control agent. High resolution patterns are obtained with conductive powders having particle sizes in the range of 0.5 to 2.5 microns. Vias are formed by developing the charged pattern with conductive bodies such as spheres having a dimension similar to the finished thickness of the lamina or substrate. After development, the conductive bodies may be embedded within the lamina or substrate, possibly facilitated through the use of heat and lamination techniques. Insulative particulate material may also be used to form insulating patterns. A sequence of direct electrostatic writing and development operations enable the production of microstructures such as capacitors and multiple wiring layers on a single lamina or substrate.

The present invention relates to electrophotographic printing and, in particular, to a process for plural color electrophotographic printing with controlled deposition of each color during the printing process.

Electrophotographic color printing process

An electrophotographic printing process enables a two-color printer having only binary printing capability to produce high-quality monochrome grey-scale output having, for example, up to 100 grey levels in a 3.times.3 super-pixel through the use of a second toner comprising a mixture of opaque black, opaque white, and clear toner. A layer of the second toner is applied so as to overlie the first toner layer on the substrate, the first toner comprising black toner. The composition of the second toner may be, for example, 9 percent opaque black toner, 9 percent opaque white toner, and 82 percent clear toner. Another embodiment extends this concept to the high-quality, enhanced grey-scale printing of a color other than black. In another embodiment, the layer of the second toner is comprised of a mixture of equal amounts of opaque black toner and opaque white toner and is applied so as to overlie the first toner layer on the substrate, the first toner layer comprised of black toner having a charge-to-mass ratio in the range of 2 to 10 times less than the second toner. This embodiment is also extended to high-quality, enhanced grey-scale printing of a color other than black. The use of these concepts is also extended to a full-color printer, in which each color is printed using enhanced grey-scale.
